Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 8, Red Sox 4 at Boston (day game):
After Dan Graham started the scoring with a three-run homer in the fourth inning, the Orioles erupted for five more runs in the seventh and defeated the Red Sox, 8-4. Graham's homer followed singles by Eddie Murray and John Lowenstein. In the seventh, with two out, Mike Torrez passed Ken Singleton with the bases loaded to force in a run and, after Win Remmerswaal relieved, Murray and Lowenstein hit doubles, each driving in two runs.

Brewers 11, Angels 5 at California (night game):
Led by Gorman Thomas, who drove in four runs with a homer, single and sacrifice fly, the Brewers defeated the Angels, 11-5, for their first victory at Anaheim Stadium in 10 games dating back to May 21, 1978.

Yankees 11, Indians 10 at New York (night game):
Rick Cerone singled with the bases loaded in the ninth inning, driving in two runs, to bring the Yankees an 11-10 victory over the Indians. Bobby Murcer hit two homers and a single, batting in five runs, and Cerone drove in four.

White Sox 3, A's 0 at Oakland (day game):
Rich Wortham and Ed Farmer combined to pitch the White Sox to a 3-0 victory over the A's. Wortham worked 7 1/3 innings, allowing four hits, before giving way to Farmer, who earned his 17th save. A homer by Lamar Johnson in the second inning was enough to beat Matt Keough, who pitched his 13th complete game of the season.

Royals 4, Mariners 2 at Seattle (night game):
Larry Gura pitched a four-hitter and gained his 10th victory of the season as the Royals used two-run triples by U.L. Washington and John Wathan in the fifth inning to defeat the Mariners, 4-2.

Rangers 11, Twins 3 at Texas (night game):
Generally ignoring the heat, the Rangers piled up 18 hits, including two homers by Buddy Bell, and defeated the Twins, 11-3. The temperature was 107 degrees when the game started. Al Oliver was the only Ranger to show the effects of the heat, leaving the field in the third inning. Johnny Grubb, who replaced Oliver, batted in two runs with a double. Mickey Rivers, who had four hits, also accounted for two RBIs. The Twins were held to five hits by three Ranger pitchers, Steve Comer, Dave Rajsich and Danny Darwin.

Tigers 8, Blue Jays 3 at Toronto (day game):
Lou Whitaker knocked in two runs with a triple and another with a double to set the pace as the Tigers defeated the Blue Jays, 8-3, for their ninth straight victory.

[DH] Cardinals 8, Cubs 6 (day game) / Cubs 2, Cardinals 1 at Chicago (day game):
With Mike Krukow pitching a three-hitter, the Cubs won the second game of a doubleheader, 2-1, to gain a split with the Cardinals, who won the first game, 8-6, with a four-run rally in the ninth inning. Ted Simmons began the Cards' rally with a double and scored on a single by George Hendrick. After a single by Terry Kennedy, sacrifice by Ken Reitz and intentional pass to Ken Oberkfell, Leon Durham doubled, driving in two runs to put the Cards ahead, but Oberkfell was thrown out trying to score. However, Durham came home with an insurance run when Cubs second baseman Mick Kelleher missed a pop fly by Bobby Bonds. The Cards' only run off Krukow in the nightcap came in the first inning and was unearned on three Cubs errors. Keith Hernandez, who grounded out, collided at first base with Bill Buckner of the Cubs and both players were knocked out of the game. The Cubs tied the score in the second and won with a run in the sixth on singles by Lenny Randle, Mike Vail and Cliff Johnson.

Reds 8, Astros 5 at Houston (night game):
Johnny Bench hit a three-run double and Dave Concepcion added a two-run triple to lead the Reds to an 8-5 victory over the Astros. Bench hit his two-bagger off J.R. Richard in third inning. Richard left the game with arm trouble in the fourth after giving up a single by Joe Price and a pass to Dave Collins. Concepcion greeted reliever Randy Niemann with his triple. Ken Griffey drove in Concepcion with a single and then scored himself after singles by Dan Driessen and Ray Knight.

Pirates 4, Expos 3 at Montreal (night game):
After Dave Parker drove in the Pirates' first three runs, Ed Ott knocked in a tally in the ninth inning to beat the Expos, 4-3. Parker hornered following a pass to Omar Moreno in the fourth. Moreno walked again, stole second and scored on a single by Parker in the sixth. In the ninth, another pass, this time to John Milner, led to the Pirates' winning run on singles by Bill Madlock and Ott.

[DH] Mets 2, Phillies 1 (day game) / Mets 5, Phillies 4 at Philadelphia (day game):
John Stearns and Steve Henderson provided the game-winning hits as the Mets defeated the Phillies in a doubleheader, 2-1 and 5-4. The opener was not decided until the 11th inning when Joel Youngblood singled and scored on a double by Stearns. In the nightcap, Lee Mazzilli opened the Mets' ninth by drawing a walk. Frank Taveras bunted and both runners were safe when Phils pitcher Kevin Saucier hit Mazzilli with his throw trying for a forceout at second. Mazzilli took third on the error. After one out, the Phils passed Youngblood intentionally to load the bases, but the move failed when Henderson stroked a single to drive in Mazzilli.

[DH] Braves 5, Padres 4 (night game) / Padres 3, Braves 2 at San Diego (night game):
Bill Nahorodny hit a two-run homer with two out in the ninth inning to give the Braves a 5-4 victory in the first game of a twi-night doubleheader, but the Padres came back to win the second game, 3-2. In the nightcap, Jerry Mumphrey led off the Padres' ninth with a single, stole second and advanced to third after the catch on a long fly to center field by pinch-hitter Von Joshua. The Braves walked Bill Fahey intentionally. Dave Cash then grounded to first baseman Chris Chambliss, who threw to catcher Biff Pocoroba, but Mumphrey slid in safe.

Giants 4, Dodgers 3 at San Francisco (day game):
Victims of a no-hitter by Jerry Reuss in the previous night's game, the Giants rebounded to defeat the Dodgers, 4-3, in 11 innings. The Giants tied the score at 2-2 in the ninth, matched tallies with the Dodgers in the 10th and then won in the 11th on a two-out walk to Rich Murray and singles by Johnnie LeMaster and Terry Whitfield.
