Brewers 5, Angels 2 at California (day game):
Reggie Cleveland improved his record to 6-2 in a route-going performance as the Brewers posted a 5-2 verdict over the Angels. The game was tied, 2-2, in the fifth when Mark Brouhard put Milwaukee ahead to stay with a double that drove in Gorman Thomas, who had doubled. Jim Gantner connected for a bases-empty homer in the sixth. The Angels' Rod Carew went 0-for-4 and was stopped on his 18-game hitting streak, longest of his career.

Yankees 7, Indians 2 at New York (day game):
Homers by Jim Spencer, Joe Lefebvre and Brian Doyle powered the Yankees to a 7-2 decision over the Indians. Spencer's blast was a two-run affair in the fourth inning, Lefebvre's three-run clout came in the sixth stanza and broke a 2-2 tie, and Doyle's solo shot in the seventh was his first major league round-tripper.

White Sox 3, A's 0 at Oakland (day game):
Britt Burns and Mike Proly combined on a four-hitter to carry the White Sox to a 3-0 victory over the A's. Burns allowed two hits over five innings and was removed in favor of Proly because of a slight case of the flu. The White Sox scored all their runs with two out in the fourth inning. A single by Thad Bosley, infield hit by Bruce Kimm, double by Greg Pryor and single by Bob Molinaro produced the tallies.

Mariners 7, Royals 2 at Seattle (day game):
A three-run homer by Bob Stinson capped a four-run second inning that propelled the Mariners to a 7-2 triumph over the Royals. Stinson, hitting .143 entering the game, connected for his first round-tripper of the season with Tom Paciorek and Jim Anderson on base. Paciorek drilled a leadoff homer in the fourth frame and Bruce Bochte and Joe Simpson had RBI singles in the fifth.

Twins 5, Rangers 3 at Texas (night game):
Rob Wilfong collected four hits in pacing the Twins to a 5-3 triumph over the Rangers for Gene Mauch's 1,500th career victory as manager. The Twins scored twice in the first inning on an RBI groundout by Roy Smalley and run-scoring double by Ken Landreaux. Wilfong singled and scored in the fourth and drilled an RBI single in the fifth.

Blue Jays 2, Tigers 0 at Toronto (day game):
Scattering seven hits, Dave Stieb hurled the Blue Jays to a 2-0 victory, ending the Tigers' nine-game winning streak. The Blue Jays scored a run in the fifth inning when Lloyd Moseby singled, advanced to second on a walk to Doug Ault and scored when second baseman Lou Whitaker erred on Ernie Whitt's hard liner. Their other tally counted in the eighth when Roy Howell tripled and pinch-runner Alfredo Griffin came across on a wild pitch.

Cardinals 9, Cubs 7 at Chicago (day game):
Rookie Leon Durham collected three hits, including his first major league homer, and scored three runs to lead the Cardinals to a 9-7 victory over the Cubs. Durham's round-tripper was a two-run shot in the fourth inning and put the Redbirds ahead to stay, 5-4. The Cards put the game out of reach with a three-run sixth, two runs coming when Cubs left fielder Dave Kingman dropped a two-out fly ball.

Astros 12, Reds 10 at Houston (night game):

A two-run single by Dave Concepcion gave the Reds an 8-5 lead in the sixth inning, but the Astros came back in the bottom of the frame with a two-run pinch-homer by Denny Walling. After the Reds scored on a sacrifice fly by Joe Nolan in the top of the seventh, the Astros went ahead, 10-9, in the bottom of the frame with an RBI single by Art Howe and two-run pinch-double by Joe Morgan. However, the Astros needed two more runs on singles by Cesar Cedeno and Howe in the eighth to win the game.

Braves 4, Padres 2 at San Diego (day game):
Dale Murphy cracked a solo homer in the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie and added a two-run single in the seventh to lead the Braves to a 4-2 triumph over the Padres. Murphy's seventh-inning hit came off reliever Rollie Fingers, who had taken over after starter Eric Rasmussen loaded the bases on singles by Bill Nahorodny and Larry McWilliams and a pass to Glenn Hubbard.
