Today's scores and summaries:

Red Sox 12, Royals 4 at Boston (night game):
The five-hit pitching of John Tudor was backed by a 13-hit attack as the Red Sox thrashed the Royals, 12-4. The Sox took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on a run-scoring double by Dave Stapleton and registered four tallies in the fourth on a two-run single by Jim Dwyer and two-run pinch-double by Butch Hobson. Stapleton cracked a leadoff homer in the fifth and Dwight Evans and Rick Burleson lashed two-run doubles in the same frame.

Indians 5, Angels 3 at California (night game):
Len Barker spaced six hits in a route-going performance, pitching the Indians to a 5-3 victory over the Angels. The Tribe scored in the first inning when Miguel Dilone singled, stole second and came home on a triple by Jorge Orta. Dilone smacked a two-bagger in the fifth and tallied on a single by Toby Harrah. Gary Gray connected for a homer in the sixth and Ron Hassey doubled home two runs in the seventh.

Orioles 1, Brewers 0 at Milwaukee (day game):
Completing the three-game series sweep, the Orioles shaded the Brewers, 1-0, as a second-inning homer by Doug DeCinces supplied the lone run of the game. The only other hit off loser Bill Travers was a single by Kiko Garcia in the fifth. Dennis Martinez, making his first start for the Orioles since May 8 after having been on the disabled list, went 8 2/3 innings and yielded five hits. Tippy Martinez came on to record the final out.

Yankees 10, Twins 3 at New York (night game):
Tommy John picked up his 14th victory as the Yankees routed the Twins, 10-3. The Yanks got their southpaw all the runs he needed in the second inning when they batted around and scored four times as Bucky Dent and Fred Stanley delivered RBI singles and Lou Piniella hit a two-run single. Reggie Jackson blasted a homer in the third and Ruppert Jones followed suit in the fourth. The Yankees added four runs in the sixth with Oscar Gamble capping the frame with a two-run single.

A's 5, Tigers 2 at Oakland (day game):
Pitching a six-hitter for his 15th complete game, Matt Keough hurled the A's to a 5-2 victory over the Tigers. The A's snapped a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the fourth inning on singles by Wayne Gross, Mike Heath and Mario Guerrero. Tony Armas drilled a two-run homer in the first and another two-run homer in the eighth.

Mariners 5, Blue Jays 3 at Seattle (night game):
Tom Paciorek broke a 3-3 tie with a two-run homer in the seventh inning, lifting the Mariners to a 5-3 victory over the Blue Jays. Rangers 3, White Sox 2 at Texas (night game):
A two-out single by Richie Zisk in the ninth inning drove home the winning run as the Rangers edged the White Sox, 3-2. With nobody on base and two out in the ninth, Bump Wills singled and stole second. Buddy Bell, who earlier had extended his hitting streak to 21 games, was intentionally walked. Ed Farmer relieved Mike Proly on the hill for the White Sox and Zisk greeted the new pitcher with a line drive up the middle as Wills raced home with the decisive marker.

Mets 6, Braves 0 at Atlanta (night game):
Rookies John Pacella and Jeff Reardon combined on a six-hitter and Elliott Maddox drove in three runs as the Mets defeated the Braves, 6-0. The Mets took a 4-0 lead in the first inning on run-scoring singles by Claudell Washington, Steve Henderson and Maddox and a groundout by Mike Jorgensen. Maddox drilled a two-run double in the third.

Dodgers 3, Cubs 1 at Chicago (day game):
Yielding only three hits, Don Sutton pitched the Dodgers to a 3-1 decision over the Cubs. The Dodgers scored twice in their first turn at bat.
