The score was 1-1 when K.C. loaded the bases in the seventh on a single by Willie Wilson and walks to Clint Hurdle and U.L. Washington. Ed Farmer then relieved Britt Burns on the mound for the Sox and was greeted by White's single. Dan Quisenberry registered his 20th save, tops in the American League.
[DH] Twins 8, Orioles 7 (night game) / Orioles 12, Twins 5 at Minnesota (night game):
The Orioles and Twins split a doubleheader, the Twins winning the opener, 8-7, in 11 innings, and the Orioles taking the nightcap, 12-5, as Steve Stone received credit for his 13th straight victory. In the first game, the score was 7-7 when John Castino led off the bottom of the 11th with a single and reached third on a one-out single by Butch Wynegar. After Dave Edwards flied out, Pete Mackanin laced a single off third baseman Doug DeCinces' glove to plate the winning tally. In the second contest, Dan Graham drove in six runs, including a bases-loaded homer in a five-run fourth inning. The Birds' catcher had a two-run single and Eddie Murray contributed a three-run homer in the six-run sixth.

Robin Yount had three hits in Milwaukee's 17-hit attack. The Yankees had 14 hits and left 15 men on base. The two teams stranded 29 runners in all, one short of the A. The Braves connected for five circuit clouts, by Glenn Hubbard, Biff Pocoroba, Chris Chambliss, Jeff Burroughs and Bob Horner.

The game was tied, 3-3, in the seventh, when Ken Griffey drilled a one-out double and Bench slammed his two-bagger to produce the go-ahead run. The game then was delayed by rain for 56 minutes and, when play was resumed, Dan Driessen singled home Bench.
Astros 3, Mets 2 at Houston (night game):
A single by Terry Puhl in the bottom of the ninth inning drove home the winning run as the Astros shaded the Mets, 3-2. The game was tied, 2-2, when Alan Ashby drew a one-out walk and reached third on a single by Craig Reynolds. After pinch-hitter Denny Walling was intentionally walked to load the bases and Rafael Landestoy struck out, Puhl stroked the winning hit to center.
