Royals 12, White Sox 4 at Kansas City (night game):
The Royals erupted for eight runs in the third inning and breezed to a 12-4 victory over the White Sox. Willie Wilson, John Wathan and Wikkie Aikens each drove in two runs during the big inning. Aikens batted in two more in the sixth. Wathan had four of the Royals' 15 hits. Wilson, George Brett and Aikens rapped two apiece with Wilson having a double for the Royals' only extra-base hit.
Pirates 7, Padres 1 at San Diego (night game):
The Pirates pounded out 16 hits, four of them by Tim Foli, and defeated the Padres, 7-1. Dave Parker contributed a two-run homer in support of Bert Blyleven, who pitched a six-hitter and had a shutout in the works until two out in the ninth inning when Dave Winfield homered for the Padres' run.
