Today's scores and summaries:

Brewers 7, White Sox 1 at Chicago (night game):
Ben Oglivie drove in three runs with a homer and double to pace the Brewers to a 7-1 victory over the White Sox. Oglivie homered following a solo round-tripper by Cecil Cooper in the fourth inning to snap a 1-1 tie, then delivered a two-run double in the eighth to cap a three-run uprising. Moose Haas pitched the first seven innings to get the win.

Indians 7, Mariners 2 at Cleveland (night game):
The Indians won their seventh consecutive game, 7-2 over the Mariners, as Mike Hargrove led the attack with a pair of homers. The Tribe scored in the first when Miguel Dilone doubled and came around on a pair of grounders. Jerry Dybzinski singled home a second-inning run and Hargrove belted a leadoff round-tripper in the third. Hargrove started a two-run seventh with another circuit clout. Bo Diaz followed with a triple and pinch-hitter Ron Hassey then drilled a run-scoring single.

Angels 7, Tigers 0 at Detroit (night game):
Driving in six runs with a two-run homer and a grand slam, Bobby Grich powered the Angels to a 7-0 victory over the Tigers as Fred Martinez and Andy Hassler combined on a four-hitter. Grich's first round-tripper was a two-run shot in the second inning and his bases-loaded blast came in the fifth off reliever Roger Weaver after singles by Dickie Thon and Don Baylor and a walk to Joe Rudi.

Royals 9, Red Sox 8 at Kansas City (night game):
An error by Boston shortstop Rick Burleson in the bottom of the ninth inning allowed the winning run to score as the Royals outlasted the Red Sox, 9-8. After the Sox tied the contest at 8-8 in the top of the ninth on an RBI pinch-single by Jim Dwyer, George Brett began the bottom of the frame with a double. After Hal McRae was intentionally walked, John Wathan bounced into a double play. Amos Otis then grounded to Burleson, who booted the ball as Brett came home. Brett had four hits, including a seventh-inning homer, and raised his average to .382.

Twins 3, Yankees 2 at Minnesota (night game):
Scattering 10 hits, Geoff Zahn pitched the Twins to a 3-2 triumph over the Yankees. A two-run single by Rob Wilfong in the eighth inning was the key hit. It came with two out and the bases loaded and broke a 1-1 tie. Both New York runs came in on sacrifice flies by Rick Cerone. A bases-loaded sacrifice fly by Roy Smalley in the third inning produced the first Minnesota marker.

Orioles 4, Rangers 3 at Texas (night game):
The Orioles survived a ninth-inning Texas rally to win, 4-3. The Birds scored in the first inning on a single by Pat Kelly, added two more runs in the second on a single by Rich Dauer and a passed ball and picked up their final tally in the eighth on a solo homer by Gary Roenicke. The Rangers scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth and had the tying run on second when Tippy Martinez came on to get the final out.

A's 6, Blue Jays 5 at Toronto (night game):
A single by Dwayne Murphy drove home the decisive tally as the A's shaded the Blue Jays, 6-5, in 12 innings. The Jays had tied the game in the bottom of the ninth on a leadoff homer by Barry Bonnell. With two out in the top of the 12th, Rickey Henderson doubled and Murphy singled to right for the winning marker.

Dodgers 10, Pirates 2 at Los Angeles (night game):
Starring at the plate and on the mound, Burt Hooton led the Dodgers to a 10-2 rout of the Pirates. The veteran righthander scattered seven hits in going the distance and added a squeeze bunt in the sixth and three-run homer in the eighth. Los Angeles scored twice in the first frame on a single by Steve Garvey and twice in the second on a double by Pedro Guerrero and single by Rudy Law. Ron Cey blasted a solo homer in the sixth stanza.

Expos 4, Reds 1 at Montreal (night game):
Tossing a six-hitter while striking out 10 batters, Bill Gullickson hurled the Expos to a 4-1 triumph over the Reds. Montreal jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Ron LeFlore drew a leadoff walk, stole second and reached third on a single by Rodney Scott, who then stole second. A single by Andre Dawson plated LeFlore and when third baseman Ray Knight threw the ball away on the same play, Scott came home. A single by Warren Cromartie accounted for the final tally of the frame.

Mets 2, Braves 1 at New York (night game):
Combining on a six-hitter, Mark Bomback and Neil Allen pitched the Mets to a 2-1 decision over the Braves. New York scored in the second inning when Dan Norman singled, stole second and came home when center fielder Dale Murphy first misjudged Doug Flynn's fly ball and then lost it completely when he slipped and fell on the wet turf. Flynn was credited with a triple on the play. The Mets added a marker in the sixth on a double by Steve Henderson and RBI single by Joel Youngblood.

Phillies 9, Astros 6 at Philadelphia (night game):
Sparked by Bake McBride, who went 5-for-5, the Phillies defeated the Astros, 9-6. The score was 6-6 when Larry Bowa opened the Philadelphia eighth inning with an infield hit and stole second. After pinch-hitter Del Unser walked, a single by Lonnie Smith scored Bowa. A single by Pete Rose loaded the bases and McBride then rammed a two-run single through the drawn-in infield.

Padres 3, Cubs 1 at San Diego (night game):
Taking advantage of four Chicago errors, the Padres defeated the Cubs, 3-1. In the second inning, Dave Winfield singled and went to second on a balk. After Gene Tenace walked, Cubs shortstop Ivan DeJesus booted a grounder by Aurelio Rodriguez to load the bases. Second baseman Steve Dillard then fumbled a grounder by Tim Flannery, allowing Winfield and Tenace to score. In the fourth frame, Tenace was safe at first when third baseman Lenny Randle booted his grounder. After walks to Flannery and Gene Richards filled the sacks, Ozzie Smith was hit by a pitch to force in a run.

Giants 4, Cardinals 1 at San Francisco (night game):
Larry Herndon drove in three runs with a triple and single to lead the Giants to a 4-1 victory over the Cardinals. The three-bagger by Herndon drove in the first Giants run in the fourth inning and he scored on a single by Jack Clark. After singles by Dennis Littlejohn and Johnnie LeMaster and a walk to Bill North loaded the bases in the fifth, Herndon slashed a two-out, two-run single. Allen Ripley received credit for the victory and Greg Minton saved the game by coming in in the eighth inning with two on and none out and retiring the side without damage.
