Today's scores and summaries:

White Sox 6, Brewers 5 at Chicago (night game):
Rallying for two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, the White Sox edged the Brewers, 6-5. After a solo homer by Ben Oglivie put the Brewers ahead, 5-4, in the top of the eighth, Jim Morrison led off the White Sox half with a single and went to second on an infield hit by Bob Molinaro. A double by Wayne Nordhagen tied the score. After an intentional pass to Chet Lemon loaded the bases, pinch-hitter Randy Johnson delivered a sacrifice fly. Morrison blasted a three-run homer in the sixth.

Indians 5, Mariners 2 at Cleveland (night game):
Posting their eighth straight victory, the Indians defeated the Mariners, 5-2. The game was tied, 2-2, in the seventh when Gary Alexander walked, took second on a sacrifice by Jack Brohamer and tallied on a single by Rick Manning.

Angels 6, Tigers 5 at Detroit (night game):
A four-run outburst in the eighth inning lifted the Angels to a 6-5 triumph over the Tigers. Freddie Patek opened the stanza with a triple and scored on a pinch-single by Rod Carew. Bert Campaneris, running for Carew, was sacrificed to second by Rick Miller, stole third and registered on a pinch-double by Larry Harlow. Aurelio Lopez then came on to pitch for the Tigers and was greeted with a homer by Don Baylor.

Red Sox 7, Royals 1 at Kansas City (night game):
Breaking a 1-1 tie with a six-run explosion in the ninth inning, the Red Sox downed the Royals, 7-1. In the outburst, the Red Sox lashed consecutive one-out singles by Dwight Evans, Dave Rader, pinch-hitter Garry Hancock, Rick Burleson, Dave Stapleton and Fred Lynn.

Twins 2, Yankees 1 at Minnesota (night game):
Brilliant pitching by Jerry Koosman carried the Twins to a 2-1 triumph over the Yankees in 10 innings as John Castino drove in the winning run with a two-bagger. The veteran southpaw yielded only three hits and held the Bronx Bombers hitless from the third inning through the 10th. In the 10th, Ken Landreaux singled and raced home on Castino's double.

Orioles 3, Rangers 2 at Texas (night game):
A double by Al Bumbry in the seventh inning drove home the tie-breaking run as the Orioles eked out a 3-2 victory over the Rangers. Rich Dauer led off that frame with a single and scored on Bumbry's long two-bagger to right field.

A's 11, Blue Jays 1 at Toronto (night game):
Rick Langford allowed only two hits and turned in his 14th consecutive complete game as the A's routed the Blue Jays, 11-1. In winning his sixth straight, Langford had a perfect game going until Alfredo Griffin led off the Jays' seventh inning with a homer. The A's had four round-trippers -- a pair of two-run drives by Wayne Gross and solo shots by Dave Revering and Jeff Newman.

Dodgers 3, Pirates 0 at Los Angeles (night game):
Recording his fifth shutout of the season, Jerry Reuss hurled the Dodgers to a 3-0 triumph over the Pirates. The Dodgers scored in the first inning when Davey Lopes singled, stole second, went to third on a sacrifice by Bill Russell and came home on Dusty Baker's grounder which was booted by shortstop Tim Foli. Lopes drove in a run with sa ingle in the second, and Pedro Guerrero drilled a homer in the eighth.

Expos 2, Reds 1 at Montreal (night game):
The Expos pushed run a across in the ninth inning and shaded the Reds, 2-1. Gary Carter drew one-out walk and raced to third on a single by Larry Parrish. Dave Tomlin replaced Doug Bair on the mound for the Reds and issued an intentional walk to pinch-hitter Ken Macha. Tony Bernazard, batting for Woodie Fryman, then drove the ball over the drawn-in infield to plate the winning tally. The Reds' run counted in the first on a double by Ray Knight and single by George Foster. The Expos produced the matching tally with singles by Jerry White and Andre Dawson around a sacrifice bunt by Rodney Scott in the sixth.

Mets 3, Braves 0 at New York (day game):
Posting his second straight shutout, Pat Zachry pitched the Mets to a 3-0 victory over the Braves. The Mets scored in the second inning on a double by Elliott Maddox and single by Doug Flynn, then added two more runs in the eighth on a double by Claudell Washington, walk to Steve Henderson, single by Mike Jorgensen and a throwing error by Braves right fielder Gary Matthews.

Phillies 6, Astros 4 at Philadelphia (night game):
After Astros first baseman Danny Heep dropped a pop foul for an error, Garry Maddox returned to the plate and knocked in two runs with a single to give the Phillies a 6-4 victory. The Phils trailed, 3-2, going into the bottom of the fifth when they loaded the bases on a double by Dick Ruthven and walks to Pete Rose and Mike Schmidt. Keith Moreland cracked a two-run single to put the Phils ahead, 4-3, and Maddox singled home the deciding two tallies.

Padres 5, Cubs 2 at San Diego (night game):
Two homers by Willie Montanez highlighted the Padres' 5-2 victory over the Cubs. The veteran first sacker connected for the circuit with the bases empty in the fifth inning and added a two-run shot in the eighth to provide insurance after Dave Winfield had stroked an RBI single to break a 2-2 tie.

Cardinals 4, Giants 0 at San Francisco (day game):
Making his first start since June 8 after being sidelined by a sore shoulder, John Fulgham hurled the Cardinals to a 4-0 victory over the Giants. Fulgham has not yielded an earned run in 31 innings vs. the Giants in his career.
