Today's scores and summaries:

Red Sox 7, Brewers 2 at Boston (night game):
Glenn Hoffman slammed a two-run homer in the third inning and ignited a three-run seventh with a double to lead the Red Sox to a 7-2 victory over the Brewers. Hoffman's homer gave the Sox a 2-0 lead in the third and a sacrifice fly by Jim Rice later in the inning made the score 3-0. After Hoffman's leadoff double in the seventh, he eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Fred Lynn. The other runs scored on a run-scoring single by Carlton Fisk and RBI groundout by Rice.

Angels 8, Mariners 3 at California (night game):
The Angels spoiled Maury Wills' debut as Seattle manager by handing the Mariners their 10th straight loss, 8-3. The Angels trailed, 3-2, going into the bottom of the seventh inning, but scored three runs on an RBI single by Don Baylor and two-run double by Jason Thompson. They added three more markers in the eighth on a run-scoring single by Larry Harlow and two-run triple by Carney Lansford.

Indians 11, Blue Jays 5 at Cleveland (night game):
Two-run homers by Joe Charboneau and Jorge Orta and solo shots by Bo Diaz and Rick Manning powered the Indians to an 11-5 scalping of the Blue Jays. Charboneau's blast highlighted a three-run second inning and Orta capped a three-run sixth with his round-tripper. Diaz and Manning connected for bases-empty shots in the seventh.

Royals 6, Tigers 5 at Detroit (night game):
A ninth-inning homer by Frank White lifted the Royals to a 6-5 victory over the Tigers, ending Detroit's five-game winning streak. After George Brett tied the game at 5-5 in the top of the eighth inning with a solo round-tripper, White cracked a two-out blast in the top of the ninth.

Yankees 10, Rangers 4 at New York (night game):
Homers by Reggie Jackson, Eric Soderholm and Bobby Brown highlighted the Yankees' 10-4 rout of the Rangers. New York took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a double-play grounder by Rick Cerone and solo homer by Soderholm. Brown drilled a two-run circuit clout in the fourth and Jackson's bases-empty blow touched off a three-run fifth.

A's 11, Twins 2 at Oakland (night game):
An eight-run explosion in the first inning carried the A's to an 11-2 trouncing of the Twins. A single by Mike Heath plated the first two tallies of the big inning and the others came on a two-run double by Dave McKay, two-run single by Jeff Cox and two-run homer by Rickey Henderson. Jeff Newman hit a solo homer in the second stanza. Steve McCatty went the route to even his record at 9-9.

Dodgers 5, Braves 3 at Atlanta (night game):
Jerry Reuss, with relief help from Don Stanhouse, notched his 12th victory as the Dodgers downed the Braves, 5-3. The game was tied, 3-3, when Pedro Guerrero singled with one out in the sixth, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on a double by Steve Yeager. Guerrero's sacrifice fly in the eighth provided an insurance marker. Steve Garvey drilled a solo homer in the second and Dusty Baker clouted a two-run shot in the fourth.

[DH] Reds 7, Padres 1 (day game) / Reds 11, Padres 2 at Cincinnati (day game):
The Reds swept a doubleheader, 7-1 and 11-2, ending the Padres' winning streak at eight games. Tom Seaver, coming off the disabled list, gained credit for the victory in the first game, pitching six strong innings. The Reds had a two-run triple by Dan Driessen in the first inning, two-run homer by George Foster in the third and two-run round-tripper by Johnny Bench in the sixth. In the second game, the Reds broke a 2-2 tie with an eight-run explosion in the seventh. The big blows were a two-run single by Joe Nolan and two-run double by Dave Concepcion.

Astros 4, Giants 2 at Houston (night game):
Combining on a five-hitter, Nolan Ryan and Joe Sambito hurled the Astros to a 4-2 triumph over the Giants. The Astros scored twice in the first inning on a single by Terry Puhl, triple by Enos Cabell and single by Cesar Cedeno. An RBI single by Craig Reynolds in the second and a third-inning sacrifice fly by Jose Cruz accounted for Houston's final two runs.

[DH] Expos 4, Mets 3 (night game) / Mets 4, Expos 3 at Montreal (night game):
The Expos extended their winning streak to seven games with a 4-3 victory in the first half of a twin bill, but the Mets came back to capture the nightcap, 4-3. The lidlifter was tied, 3-3, going into the bottom of the 10th, when Ron LeFlore drew a one-out walk and stole second. After Rodney Scott walked, Andre Dawson stroked a single that plated LeFlore. In the second game, Lee Mazzilli blasted a two-run homer for the Mets in the fourth inning and Jerry Morales connected with the bases empty in the sixth. Mark Bomback, Dyar Miller and Neil Allen combined on a six-hitter, with Allen getting the save, and stopped Dawson's hitting streak at 19 games.
