Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 2, White Sox 1 at Baltimore (night game):
Scattering seven hits, Scott McGregor hurled the Orioles to a 2-1 decision over the White Sox. The Orioles registered both their tallies in the sixth inning. Kiko Garcia opened the frame by reaching first on first baseman Lamar Johnson's error, moved to third on an infield hit by Rich Dauer and scored as Al Bumbry bounced into a double play. Rick Dempsey kept the inning alive with a single and Ken Singleton then delivered a run-scoring double.

Red Sox 7, Brewers 3 at Boston (night game):
A four-run outburst in the seventh inning lifted the Red Sox to a 7-3 victory over the Brewers. The score was tied, 3-3, when Carl Yastrzemski began the seventh with a bunt single and moved to second on a sacrifice by Jim Rice. After Dwight Evans was intentionally walked, a single by Glenn Hoffman plated Yaz. Rick Burleson forced Hoffman at second, but Dave Stapleton continued the rally with a single that scored Evans. Fred Lynn then climaxed the uprising with a two-run double.

Angels 4, Twins 2 at California (night game):
A two-run homer by Rod Carew in the 15th inning ended a marathon struggle and gave the Angels a 4-2 triumph over the Twins. The victory was the Angels' fourth straight and the defeat was the Twins' seventh in succession. Carew's game-winning shot came with two out and Freddie Patek aboard via a one-out infield hit. The Angels had tied the score in the eighth, getting a pair of markers on a bases-loaded single by Carney Lansford.

Indians 7, Blue Jays 6 at Cleveland (night game):
Completing the four-game series sweep, the Indians edged the Blue Jays, 7-6. After the Jays tied the contest in the top of the ninth inning on a two-run pinch-homer by Doug Ault, Toby Harrah drew a one-out walk in the bottom of the frame. Mike Barlow relieved Jerry Garvin on the mound for Toronto and was greeted by a bloop single by Joe Charboneau that sent Harrah to third. Bo Diaz then laced a single to right to plate Harrah and give the Indians their 13th victory in the last 15 games.

Braves 4, Dodgers 3 at Atlanta (night game):
Doyle Alexander and Rick Camp combined to pitch the Braves to a 4-3 triumph over the Dodgers. Alexander scattered six hits over 7 1/3 innings before leaving with leg cramps and Camp came on to earn the save. The Braves trailed, 3-2, when Bob Horner led off the bottom of the sixth with a double and stopped at third on a double by Dale Murphy. Jeff Burroughs and Bruce Benedict then delivered back-to-back sacrifice flies. Glenn Hubbard smacked a two-run homer in the third.

Pirates 11, Cubs 3 at Chicago (day game):
Pounding out 16 hits, the Pirates whipped the Cubs, 11-3. A two-run homer by Bill Madlock snapped a 3-3 tie in the fifth inning. Tim Foli cracked a two-run double in the sixth and the Bucs added four runs in the seventh, scoring on a single by Foli, doubles by Eddie Solomon and Omar Moreno and a single by Dave Parker. Solomon went the route for the Pirates, allowing solo homers to Mike Tyson and Jesus Figueroa -- his first in the major leagues.

Padres 5, Astros 1 at Houston (night game):
The Padres snapped a 10-game losing streak in the Astrodome, downing the Astros, 5-1, behind the four-hit pitching of Bob Shirley. The Padres were aided by seven walks issued by Astros' starter Joe Niekro. A walk to Gene Richards with the bases loaded in the fourth inning gave the Padres a 2-1 lead and they padded their margin in the sixth with a two-run double by Jerry Mumphrey.

Mets 7, Expos 1 at Montreal (day game):
Recording his first complete game in 18 starts, Ray Burris, who came off the disabled list, pitched the Mets to a 7-1 victory over the Expos. Jerry Morales led the attack with three RBIs on a homer and single. Joel Youngblood contributed a two-run homer. An RBI single by Tim Flannery closed out the scoring in the seventh stanza.

Phillies 3, Cardinals 2 at Philadelphia (night game):
Steve Carlton, getting last-out help from Tug McGraw, notched his 17th victory of the season and drove in the deciding run as the Phillies defeated the Cardinals, 3-2. The Phils scored all their runs in the fifth inning. Mike Schmidt walked but was forced by Garry Maddox. Manny Trillo then doubled to left, putting runners at second and third. A single by Larry Bowa plated both runners and Bowa advanced to second on the throw to the plate. A single by Carlton then chased Bowa home. McGraw relieved Carlton with two runners aboard and two out in the ninth and closed out the game with one pitch, getting Tommy Herr to hit an easy bouncer to shortstop.
