Orioles 6, Yankees 1 at Baltimore (night game):
Registering his 19th victory on a two-hitter, Steve Stone hurled the Orioles to a 6-1 decision over the Yankees. The Orioles scored twice in the first inning on an RBI double by Rich Dauer and run-scoring single by Benny Ayala. Gary Roenicke drilled a two-run homer in the sixth and Dauer and Ken Singleton cracked back-to-back round-trippers in the seventh.

Indians 7, Rangers 2 at Cleveland (night game):
Unleashing a 16-hit bombardment, the Indians defeated the Rangers, 7-2. The Tribe scored in the third inning when Jorge Orta singled, raced to third on a single by Mike Hargrove and tallied on a wild pitch. Rick Manning stroked an RBI single in the fourth, a run-scoring double by Joe Charboneau keyed a two-run fifth, Orta rapped a run-scoring double in the sixth and Alan Bannister had an RBI single in the seventh.

Red Sox 3, Tigers 1 at Detroit (night game):
A three-run homer by Tony Perez in the first inning was all the Red Sox needed to down the Tigers, 3-1. Perez's blast followed a walk to Rick Burleson and single by Fred Lynn. Steve Renko, with relief help from Tom Burgmeier and Bob Stanley, picked up the victory.

Brewers 4, Blue Jays 2 at Milwaukee (day game):
Collecting three singles and a double, Cecil Cooper led the Brewers to a 4-2 victory over the Blue Jays. The Brewers snapped a 1-1 tie with two runs in the third inning on back-to-back doubles by Paul Molitor and Cooper and a single by Ben Oglivie. Cooper drove in the Brewers' fourth run with a single in the seventh.

A's 2, Twins 1 at Minnesota (day game):
Mike Norris yielded only six hits and an unearned run in 11 innings in pitching the A's to a 2-1 triumph over the Twins. Dave Revering snapped a 1-1 tie in the 11th with a two-out, pinch-hit home run. The complete game was Norris' 18th.

Angels 2, Mariners 1 at Seattle (night game):
Posting the ninth victory in their last 10 games, the Angels prevailed over the Mariners, 2-1. The score was tied in the eighth inning when Bobby Grich doubled, moved to third as Seattle third baseman Ted Cox erred on a grounder by Joe Rudi, and scored on a single by Bobby Clark. Fred Martinez pitched a six-hitter for 8 1/3 innings and then was relieved by Don Aase, who recorded his first save of the season.

Phillies 8, Mets 1 at New York (night game):
Mike Schmidt rapped four hits, including his 31st homer, and drove in four runs to pace the Phillies to an 8-1 thumping of the Mets. Schmidt singled home two runs in the third inning, doubled home another tally in the seventh and connected for the circuit in the ninth. Nino Espinosa hurled a five-hitter in going the route.

Astros 2, Padres 1 at San Diego (day game):
Allowing three hits, Nolan Ryan pitched the Astros to a 2-1 victory over the Padres. The game was tied, 1-1, when Cesar Cedeno opened the Astros' ninth inning with a single, stole second, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jeff Leonard.

Giants 5, Braves 1 at San Francisco (day game):
A grand slam by Jack Clark powered the Giants to a 5-1 victory over the Braves. After a homer by Bob Horner had given the Braves a 1-0 lead in the second inning, the Giants loaded the bases in the third on a pair of walks and a single by Darrell Evans before Clark drilled the third bases-loaded homer of his career.

Cardinals 10, Cubs 9 at St. Louis (night game):
The Cardinals pushed across a run in the 10th inning to outlast the Cubs, 10-9. Tony Scott began the stanza with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice by Keith Hernandez. After Ted Simmons was intentionally walked, Bill Caudill replaced George Riley on the hill for the Cubs and was greeted with the game-winning single by George Hendrick.
