Orioles 1, Yankees 0 at Baltimore (day game):
Scott McGregor stopped the Yankees on five hits and pitched the Orioles to a 1-0 victory. The game's lone run came in the sixth inning when Rich Dauer cracked a leadoff double and, two outs later, Terry Crowley lined a two-bagger past first base.

[DH] Brewers 4, Indians 0 (day game) / Brewers 11, Indians 1 at Cleveland (day game):
The Brewers swept a doubleheader with the Indians, winning the first game, 4-0, behind the four-hit pitching of Paul Mitchell, and taking the second game, 11-1. Ben Oglivie started the Brewers' scoring in the opener with a homer in the second inning. Cecil Cooper smacked a two-run single in the third and Sixto Lezcano drilled a homer in the fourth. The Brewers' victory in the nightcap was their sixth in a row, equaling their longest winning streak of the season. Charlie Moore drove in three runs and Cooper and Gorman Thomas accounted for two each.

[DH] Rangers 9, Tigers 3 (day game) / Rangers 12, Tigers 6 at Detroit (day game):
Al Oliver hit four home runs, one in the opener and three in the nightcap, to lead the Rangers to a 9-3 and 12-6 sweep of a doubleheader with the Tigers. In the first game, Oliver cracked a leadoff homer in the fourth inning, tripled home another run in the fifth and added his third RBI of the game with a double in the seventh. In the second game, the Rangers' slugger hit a solo shot in the fifth, two-run blast in the seventh and bases-empty clout in the ninth.

Royals 8, Blue Jays 3 at Kansas City (night game):
George Brett went for 4-for-4 and drove in five runs while raising his average to .401 as the Royals downed the Blue Jays, 8-3. Brett singled in the third inning, got an infield hit in the fifth, two-run double in the seventh that snapped a 2-2 tie, and three-run double in the eighth.

[DH] Twins 8, Angels 1 (day game) / Twins 6, Angels 5 at Minnesota (day game):
The Twins won a pair from the Angels, taking the first game, 8-1, behind the six-hit pitching of Roger Erickson, and adding the second game, 6-5, as Jerry Koosman picked up his 11th victory of the season. The Twins registered four markers in the first inning of the opener as Mike Cubbage, Butch Wynegar and John Castino drove in runs and another tallied on an error. The Twins started fast again in the first inning of the second game with a two-run single by Cubbage and sacrifice fly by Wynegar. Glenn Adams blasted a two-run triple in the fifth and Ron Jackson tripled home a run in the sixth.

Mariners 4, A's 3 at Seattle (night game):
Ending a six-game losing streak, the Mariners shaded the A's, 4-3. Dan Meyer homered to break a 2-2 tie in the sixth inning and Julio Cruz drove in what proved to be the winning run with a single in the seventh.

Reds 6, Dodgers 2 at Los Angeles (day game):
Mario Soto and Tom Hume, who notched his 21st save, combined on a six-hitter as the Reds triumphed over the Dodgers, 6-2. The game was tied, 2-2, in the seventh inning, when Dave Collins and Ray Knight singled to kayo Dodgers starter Bob Welch in favor of Bobby Castillo. Consecutive walks to Ken Griffey and George Foster forced home one run, a sacrifice fly by Dan Driessen plated Knight and a single by Joe Nolan drove in Griffey.

[DH] Phillies 9, Mets 4 (day game) / Phillies 4, Mets 1 at New York (day game):
The Phillies swept a doubleheader from the Mets, 9-4 and 4-1. The first game was highlighted by two-run homers by Bake McBride in the first inning and Garry Maddox in the fourth and by a solo shot by Lonnie Smith in the sixth. Steve Carlton struck out 11 batters in recording his 19th victory of the season. In the second game, Maddox put the Phillies ahead, 2-1, with a two-run homer in the fourth. The Phils picked up another pair in the fifth on errors by left fielder Steve Henderson and third baseman Elliott Maddox and a sacrifice fly by Mike Schmidt.

[DH] Pirates 5, Expos 1 (night game) / Expos 4, Pirates 2 at Pittsburgh (night game):
Dividing a doubleheader, the Pirates took the opener, 5-1, and the Expos won the nightcap, 4-2. The Pirates scored three runs in the first inning of the lidlifter on an RBI single by Dave Parker and two-run homer by Lee Lacy and never were threatened as Rick Rhoden spaced seven hits in recording his first complete game of the season. The second game was tied, 2-2, when Larry Parrish opened the Montreal ninth with a single and reached second on a sacrifice by Chris Speier. After an intentional walk to pinch-hitter Gary Carter, Kent Tekulve relieved starter Don Robinson and yielded a pinch-single to Andre Dawson that loaded the bases. Ron LeFiore forced Parrish at the plate, but Rodney Scott lined a single that plated two runs.

[DH] Astros 5, Padres 0 (day game) / Astros 9, Padres 2 at San Diego (day game):
Ken Forsch and Joe Niekro pitched the Astros to a doubleheader sweep over the Padres, 5-0 and 9-2. The Astros took a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the opener on doubles by Joe Morgan, Jose Cruz and Cesar Cedeno. Cruz blasted a solo homer in the eighth and Terry Puhl connected for a two-run round-tripper in the ninth. The Astros tallied seven runs in the second inning of the second game.

Braves 8, Giants 2 at San Francisco (day game):
A grand slam by Dale Murphy in the first inning triggered the Braves to an 8-2 triumph over the Giants as Doyle Alexander pitched a five-hitter. A single by Jerry Royster and walks to Bob Horner and Chris Chambliss loaded the sacks and set up Murphy's blast.

Cubs 6, Cardinals 2 at St. Louis (day game):
Pounding out 14 hits, the Cubs posted a 6-2 triumph over the Cardinals. Chicago tallied in their first turn at bat on a two-run homer by Lenny Randle, scored in the second inning on a two-run single by Rick Reuschel and counted twice more in the third on consecutive doubles by Bill Buckner and Cliff Johnson and a single by Scot Thompson.
