Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 5, Angels 2 at California (night game):
Steve Stone became the majors' first 20-game winner as the Orioles downed the Angels. 5-2. The Orioles ace had a no-hitter for 7 1/3 innings but was driven to cover as California registered two runs in the eighth. Bert Campaneris broke Stone's spell with a single. The Orioles' attack was led by Eddie Murray, Doug DeCinces and Dan Graham, all of whom hit home runs.

Indians 8, White Sox 5 at Chicago (night game):
Mike Hargrove had four hits, scored twice and drove in two runs to pace the Indians to an 8-5 victory over the White Sox. The Tribe scored four times in the first inning, one on a single by Hargrove, two on a single by Ron Hassey and one on a double by Alan Bannister. The Indians picked up another pair in the second on a two-bagger by Miguel Dilone and single by Hargrove.

Tigers 6, Brewers 2 at Milwaukee (night game):
A four-run uprising in the third inning carried the Tigers to a 6-2 triumph over the Brewers, ending Detroit's six-game losing streak and snipping Milwaukee's seven-game winning skein. Lou Whitaker, Ricky Peters and Alan Trammell hit consecutive singles in the third to produce the first run of the frame and Richie Hebner drove in two more with a triple. A sacrifice fly by Champ Summers capped the outburst.

Blue Jays 4, Twins 3 at Minnesota (night game):
A pinch-double by Steve Braun in the ninth inning lifted the Blue Jays to a 4-3 victory over the Twins. Roy Howell stroked a leadoff single and was forced at second by Al Woods. Braun then delivered the decisive blow.

Red Sox 7, A's 5 at Oakland (night game):
A single by Carl Yastrzemski snapped a 5-5 deadlock in the ninth inning as the Red Sox won over the A's, 7-5. The score was 5-5 when Tony Perez, who hit his 21st homer in the seventh, led off the ninth with a double, moved to third on a wild pitch and came home on Yastrzemski's hit. The Red Sox added an extra run later in the inning on a bases-loaded walk by A's pitcher Dave Beard.

Yankees 3, Mariners 1 at Seattle (night game):
Homers by Bob Watson and Reggie Jackson powered the Yankees to a 3-1 victory over the Mariners. Watson broke a 1-1 tie with a leadoff homer in the fourth inning and Jackson provided an insurance marker with his round-tripper in the eighth. Rich Gossage picked up his 19th save.

Royals 4, Rangers 3 at Texas (night game):
Although George Brett's hitting streak was stopped at 30 games, the Royals rallied for three runs in the ninth inning to defeat the Rangers, 4-3. Brett popped out to center field in the first inning, grounded to second in the third, walked on a 3-2 pitch in the sixth and grounded to first in the ninth. The Royals' winning rally began with U.L. Washington reaching first base on an error by Texas shortstop Dave Roberts. After Brett's out, a double by Hal McRae scored Washington. Danny Darwin replaced starter Jon Matlack on the mound and was greeted with a single by Amos Otis, driving in McRae. Otis then reached third on a single by John Wathan. John Henry Johnson took over for Darwin and Willie Aikens slapped a single that put the Royals ahead.

Braves 5, Cubs 4 at Atlanta (night game):
A double by Glenn Hubbard drove home the winning run as the Braves prevailed over the Cubs, 5-4, in 11 innings. Bob Horner led off the stanza with a single and was replaced by pinch-runner Luis Gomez. After Gomez moved to second on a sacrifice and Dale Murphy walked, Hubbard ripped the deciding two-bagger.

Reds 4, Cardinals 2 at Cincinnati (night game):
Breaking an 0-for-36 batting drought, Mike LaCoss helped himself to victory, hitting a single and driving in the tie-breaking run in the fourth inning as the Reds downed the Cardinals, 4-2. The Reds were behind, 2-1, in the fourth, when Joe Nolan tied the contest with a homer. After a double by Dave Concepcion, LaCoss delivered his run-scoring blow. The Reds added an insurance marker in the eighth on a triple by George Foster and an error by Cardinals first baseman Keith Hernandez.

Astros 5, Pirates 2 at Houston (night game):
A three-run first inning triggered the Astros to a 5-2 triumph over the Pirates. Joe Morgan drew a leadoff walk, Enos Cabell followed with a single and Jose Cruz belted a double to plate the first run. A groundout by Cesar Cedeno produced the second run and Art Howe poked a single to right to drive in the third tally of the inning. The Astros got their two other runs in the sixth on a walk to Cruz, triple by Cedeno and sacrifice fly by Howe.

Dodgers 3, Expos 2 at Montreal (night game):
Pushing across a run in the ninth inning, the Dodgers edged the Expos, 3-2. Steve Yeager, Derrel Thomas and Davey Lopes stroked consecutive singles after two were out to produce the decisive tally.

Giants 5, Mets 4 at New York (night game):
A sacrifice fly by Darrell Evans drove in the tie-breaking run in the seventh inning as the Giants shaded the Mets, 5-4. The Giants opened a 4-1 lead in the sixth on solo homers by Evans and Mike Ivie, but the Mets tied the game in the bottom of the frame on a pair of errors and a single by Frank Taveras. Bill North led off the Giants' seventh with a walk and went to third on a double by Larry Herndon. After Jack Clark was walked intentionally, Evans lofted a fly ball to plate North.

Phillies 7, Padres 4 at Philadelphia (night game):
Recording their sixth straight victory, the Phillies defeated the Padres, 7-4. The Phils trailed, 4-3, going into the bottom of the sixth inning. A two-out homer by Manny Trillo tied the game and Garry Maddox and Larry Bowa then lashed consecutive doubles for a 5-4 lead. George Vukovich drove in two additional runs with a pinch-double in the seventh after a single by Bowa and walk to Bob Boone.
