Orioles 6, Angels 5 at California (night game):
After blowing a 5-2 lead in the ninth inning, the Orioles scored a run in the 10th to beat the Angels, 6-5. John Lowenstein drew a leadoff walk, stole second and, after a pass to Terry Crowley. moved to third on a fly ball and scored the winning run on a single by Doug DeCinces. A two-run single by Bert Campaneris keyed the Angels' three-run rally in the ninth.

Indians 3, White Sox 0 at Chicago (night game):
Dan Spillner barely missed a no-hitter as the Indians blanked the White Sox, 3-0. The Tribe hurler had a no-hitter in the works for 8 1/3 innings before his gem was spoiled when Leo Sutherland drilled a clean single.

Tigers 8, Brewers 6 at Milwaukee (night game):
Tom Brookens, who started a triple play in the eighth inning. went 5-for-5 with a homer, triple and three singles to pace the Tigers to an 8-6 decision over the Brewers. Brookens singled in the third inning, singled in the fourth, belted a two-run homer in the sixth, tripled in the seventh and singled in the ninth. The Tigers also had homers from John Wockenfuss, whose three-run shot gave them a 4-0 lead in the third, and Lance Parrish, who belted his 21st round-tripper leading off the seventh. Brookens started the triple play on Sal Bando's bouncer to third in the eighth, with Sixto Lezcano on second and Charlie Moore on first. Brookens took Bando's grounder, stepped on third to force Lezcano and threw to Lou Whitaker at second to force Moore. Whitaker's relay to first was in time to get Bando.

Blue Jays 10, Twins 4 at Minnesota (night game):
Driving in three runs with a triple and double, Ernie Whitt sparked the Blue Jays to a 10-4 triumph over the Twins. Whitt tripled home a fifth-inning run and doubled in two more to highlight a four-run eighth. The Blue Jays scored twice in the seventh to overcome a 4-3 Minnesota lead. Bob Bailor drove in one run with a single and another scored when left fielder Glenn Adams misplayed the ball.

A's 2, Red Sox 1 at Oakland (night game):
A homer by Mario Guerrero in the eighth inning lifted the A's to a 2-1 triumph over the Red Sox, who lost although Dennis Eckersley pitched a two-hitter. Eckersley had a no-hitter through six innings, but Mitchell Page led off the seventh with a single. Page then stole second, reached third when catcher Carlton Fisk's throw bounced away and scored on a sacrifice fly by Wayne Gross. Guerrero's homer was only his second of the season.

Yankees 6, Mariners 4 at Seattle (night game):
Reggie Jackson singled home the tie-breaking run in the third inning and Bobby Murcer had three RBIs to lead the Yankees to a 6-4 victory over the Mariners. After RBIs by Murcer and Jackson produced a 3-2 lead, the Yanks added three runs in the seventh, one on a double by Aurelio Rodriguez and two on a double by Murcer. Rich Gossage picked up his 20th save.

Royals 5, Rangers 3 at Texas (night game):
George Brett went 3-for-3 to raise his average to .406 as the Royals downed the Rangers, 5-3, in 12 innings. Hal McRae opened the 12th with a double. After Brett was intentionally walked and Darrell Porter drew a pass to load the sacks, Willie Aikens delivered a sacrifice fly to break the tie. The Royals picked up an insurance tally when Brett came home on a wild pitch.

Braves 9, Cubs 5 at Atlanta (night game):
Blasting off for seven runs in the first inning, the Braves went on to a 9-5 victory over the Cubs. The Braves' big frame included a run-scoring triple by Rafael Ramirez, two-run homer by Bob Horner, two-run double by Glenn Hubbard and two-run single by Jerry Royster.

Reds 4, Cardinals 3 at Cincinnati (night game):
Pushing across a run in the 12th inning, the Reds shaded the Cardinals, 4-3. Cesar Geronimo led off the 12th with an infield single and went to second on a sacrifice by Ken Griffey. Jim Otten relieved Don Hood for the Cards and hit Ray Knight with a pitch before walking George Foster to load the bases. Dan Driessen then delivered a fly ball to center field to plate Geronimo.

Astros 5, Pirates 1 at Houston (night game):
The Astros won their sixth straight game, defeating the Pirates, 5-1. The Astros scored four runs in the sixth inning, three on passes with the bases loaded. Danny Heep led off with a single and went to third on a double by Alan Ashby. After pinch-hitter Dave Bergman was passed intentionally to load the bases, pinch-hitter Denny Walling walked to force in a run. Grant Jackson took over the Bucs' pitching chores from Jim Bibby and passed Joe Morgan to send in another run. A single by Enos Cabell produced the third run of the inning and the final marker resulted from a bases-loaded walk to Ashby.

Dodgers 5, Expos 1 at Montreal (night game):
Notching his 15th victory of the campaign, Jerry Reuss pitched the Dodgers to a 5-1 triumph over the Expos. The Dodgers took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a double by Davey Lopes, triple by Dusty Baker and single by Ron Cey. Two walks, an error by Andre Dawson and single by Steve Yeager made it 4-0 in the fourth and Baker stroked a run-scoring single in the fifth.

Giants 2, Mets 1 at New York (night game):
A bases-loaded walk in the sixth inning proved decisive as the Giants edged the Mets, 2-1. Bill North began the inning with an infield single and went to second on a single by Larry Herndon. After Jack Clark was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Darrell Evans drew a walk from Mark Bomback on a 3-2 pitch. The defeat was the Mets' seventh straight.

Padres 7, Phillies 5 at Philadelphia (night game):
A six-run fifth inning carried the Padres to a 7-5 triumph over the Phillies. ending the Padres' eight-game losing streak and the Phillies' six-game winning streak. Luis Salazar opened the outburst with a single and Dave Winfield followed with a home run. After Willie Montanez singled, Craig Stimac was safe on an error by pitcher Nino Espinosa and Tim Flannery was walked intentionally to load the bases. Montanez scored when shortstop Larry Bowa fumbled a grounder by pinch-hitter Broderick Perkins. Gene Richards then slapped a two-run single and Salazar's second hit of the inning drove in the final run.
