Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 7, Angels 1 at California (night game):
Scott McGregor recorded his 15th victory as the Orioles moved within 1½ games of the first-place Yankees in the East Division with a 7-1 triumph over the Angels. A double by Rich Dauer drove in two of the Orioles' three runs in the fifth inning. John Lowenstein slugged a solo homer in the sixth and Rick Dempsey doubled home two of the three runs in the seventh.

White Sox 5, Blue Jays 3 at Chicago (night game):
A four-run uprising in the fifth inning carried the White Sox to a 5-3 triumph over the Blue .lays. With the game tied, 1-1, Glenn Borgmann opened the inning with a walk and scored on a triple by Kevin Bell, who came home on a sacrifice fly by Todd Cruz. Singles by Leo Sutherland and Mike Squires and a two-out walk to Lamar Johnson loaded the bases and, after Joey McLaughlin replaced starter Jesse Jefferson on the mound for the Blue Jays, Jim Morrison slapped a two-run single.

Indians 4, Royals 3 at Kansas City (night game):
A three-run homer by Ron Hassey in the first inning was the big blow as the Indians gained a 4-3 victory to snap the Royals' eight-game winning streak. Hassey's blast followed a double by Miguel Dilone and walk to Mike Hargrove. The Tribe added its deciding run in the sixth on a triple by Alan Bannister and double by Rick Manning. The Royals' George Brett went 1-for-4, hitting a solo homer in the fourth, as his batting average dropped to .404.

[DH] Twins 5, Tigers 3 (night game) / Tigers 4, Twins 2 at Minnesota (night game):
Splitting a doubleheader, the Twins won the first game, 5-3, and the Tigers captured the second game, 4-2. A three-run outburst in the seventh inning carried the Twins to victory in the opener. Hosken Powell drilled a one-out double and scored on a single by Ron Jackson. Pete Mackanin then followed with a home run. Jack Morris allowed only one hit -- a one-out single by Rob Wilfong in the first inning -- in hurling the Tigers to triumph in the nightcap. Steve Kemp and Richie Hebner socked solo homers.

Red Sox 5, A's 1 at Oakland (day game):
Scattering six hits, John Tudor pitched the Red Sox to a 5-1 decision over the A's. Mariners 6, Yankees 4 at Seattle (night game):
A single by Bruce Bochte in the fifth inning snapped a 4-4 tie as the Mariners downed the Yankees, 6-4. The Mariners added an insurance run in the seventh when Julio Cruz homered to greet Ron Guidry, who was making his first relief appearance of the season. The Mariners benefited from two errors to tally four unearned runs in the first. Shane Rawley, who earned his 10th save, bailed himself out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the ninth by striking out Eric Soderholm and Aurelio Rodriguez and retiring Bucky Dent on a line drive to center.

Braves 6, Cubs 4 at Atlanta (night game):
Driving in four runs, including three with a fourth-inning homer, Dale Murphy led the Braves to a 6-4 victory over the Cubs. Dodgers 5, Expos 4 at Montreal (night game):
