Today's scores and summaries:

Angels 8, Yankees 4 at California (night game):
The Angels snapped a six-game losing streak by erupting for seven runs in the fifth inning to defeat the Yankees, 8-4. Trailing, 2-1, the Angels started their outburst with the tying tally on one-out doubles by Larry Harlow and Dickie Thon. A single by Tom Donohue and pass to Rick Miller loaded the bases and chased Luis Tiant. Doug Bird relieved and gave up a sacrifice fly by Bert Campaneris. Rod Carew, Don Baylor and Jason Thompson followed with singles, each driving in a run, before Bobby Grich capped the big inning with a two-run triple.

White Sox 2, Blue Jays 0 at Chicago (night game):
Ending a personal five-game losing streak, Britt Burns pitched 8 2/3 innings and came out with credit for the victory when the White Sox defeated the Blue Jays, 2-0. Ed Farmer retired the last batter and picked up his 22nd save. The White Sox scored their first run with two out in the first inning when Bob Molinaro beat out an infield hit and Lamar Johnson tripled. Their other run in the seventh was unearned.

Indians 4, Royals 1 at Kansas City (night game):
Alan Bannister rapped three singles and drove in two runs, leading the Indians to a 4-1 victory over the Royals. The Indians took advantage of three errors to score two runs in the fifth inning, breaking a 1-1 tie. Clint Hurdle dropped a fly to right field, Darrell Porter fumbled a throw to the plate and Frakn White threw wild attempting to complete a double play. Amos Otis homered for the Royals' run.

Twins 6, Tigers 5 at Minnesota (night game):
A grounder by Ron Jackson with the bases loaded and one out in the 13th inning scored Bombo Rivera and gave the Twins a 6-5 victory over the Tigers. Rivera led off with a double. An intentional pass to Roy Smalley, sacrifice by Ken Landreaux and another intentional pass to Mike Cubbage loaded the bases and set up the winning run on Johnson's grounder to shortstop Alan Trammell, who had no chance for a double play.

Orioles 3, A's 2 at Oakland (night game):
The Orioles moved within one-half game of the Yankees in the East Division race when Gary Roenicke homered with two out in the ninth inning to beat the A's, 3-2. After Roenicke's rap, the A's had a chance to tie the score in their half when pinch-hitter Mike Davis tripled, but Sammy Stewart, pitching in relief of Jim Palmer, struck out Orlando Gonzalez and Rickey Henderson before retiring Dwayne Murphy on an infield grounder to wrap up the Orioles' sixth straight victory.

Red Sox 1, Mariners 0 at Seattle (night game):
An unearned run on a bad throw by center fielder Juan Beniquez in the ninth inning enabled the Red Sox to defeat the Mariners, 1-0. With two out, Glenn Hoffman singled and headed for third when Rick Burleson followed with a single to center. Beniquez attempted to cut him down, but his throw sailed into the stands.

[DH] Rangers 12, Brewers 6 (night game) / Brewers 8, Rangers 3 at Texas (night game):
Al Oliver knocked in four runs and Jim Sundberg and Bump Wills batted in three apiece as the Rangers gained a 12-6 victory in the first game of a twi-night doubleheader, but Jim Gantner took over the batting honors in the second game with three hits and three RBIs, pacing the Brewers to an 8-3 triumph. Jim Sundberg and Oliver each homered with a man on base in the opener. Cecil Cooper and Charlie Moore drove in two runs apiece for the Brewers. Cooper, who homered in each game, had two more RBIs in the nightcap.

Cardinals 7, Braves 4 at Atlanta (night game):
The Cardinals smashed three homers in the fourth inning, accounting for six runs, and defeated the Braves, 7-4. Keith Hernandez connected with a man on base, Ted Simmons followed with a solo shot and Ken Reitz capped the slugging show with a three-run drive. The Braves also had three homers, but their blows by Rafael Ramirez, Dale Murphy and Glenn Hubbard produced only four runs.

Pirates 4, Reds 2 at Cincinnati (night game):
John Milner drove in a run with a double in the second inning and then hit a two-run homer in the fourth to bat the Pirates to a 4-2 victory over the Reds. The Pirates' other run in the sixth was unearned. Ken Griffey accounted for the Reds' scoring with a homer in the eighth.

Astros 3, Cubs 2 at Houston (night game):
Posting their eighth consecutive victory, the Astros scored in the 12th inning to edge the Cubs, 3-2. With one out, pinch-hitter Dave Bergman walked and stopped at second on a single by Rafael Landestoy. After Joe Morgan flied out, Bill Caudill, the Cubs' loser in relief, committed a balk which moved Bergman to third and Landestoy to second. Although first base was open, the Cubs chose to pitch to Enos Cabell, who wrecked that decision with the game-winning single.

Expos 6, Padres 2 at Montreal (night game):
A five-run outburst in the fourth inning enabled the Expos to end their three-game losing streak with a 6-2 victory over the Padres. Ron LeFlore, Larry Parrish and Andre Dawson all hit doubles to feature the scoring. Rodney Scott tied a Montreal club record with four stolen bases in the game.

Mets 4, Dodgers 2 at New York (night game):
Ray Burris and Neil Allen combined to pitch the Mets to a 4-2 victory, snapping the Dodgers' three-game winning streak. The Mets, who picked up a run in the second inning, clinched the decision with two tallies in the sixth. Bill Almon singled, Lee Mazzilli walked and Claudell Washington singled, scoring Almon and sending Mazzilli to third. Mazzilli then scored as Steve Henderson grounded into a double play.

Giants 4, Phillies 3 at Philadelphia (night game):
Steve Carlton was foiled in a bid for his 20th victory when Mike Ivie drove in a run for the Giants with an infield hit in the 10th inning to beat the Phillies, 4-3. Bill North walked to open the overtime stanza and Joe Pettini sacrificed. After moving to third on an infield single by Jim Wohlford, North scored when Ivie hit a high bouncer to Mike Schmidt and beat the third baseman's throw to first.
