Today's scores and summaries:

Angels 7, Royals 4 at California (night game):
The Angels ended their four-game losing streak by defeating the Royals, 7-4, as Carney Lansford led the way with three hits, including a double and homer. Lansford's round-tripper gave the Angels a 3-1 lead in the third inning and after K.C. tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the fifth, a two-run single by Lansford highlighted a three-run Angels rally in the bottom of that frame.

White Sox 3, Mariners 2 at Chicago (night game):
Wayne Nordhagen singled home the winning run in the bottom of the 12th inning to give the White Sox a 3-2 triumph over the Mariners. The score was 2-2 with one out in the 12th when Chet Lemon was hit by a pitch. After the second out, Lemon stole second and raced home on Nordhagen's blow. Rich Dotson had a no-hitter before Larry Milbourne singled in the Seattle eighth and Jerry Narron then hit a two-run pinch-homer.

Red Sox 10, Indians 4 at Cleveland (night game):
Two homers by Jim Dwyer highlighted an 18-hit attack as the Red Sox routed the Indians, 10-4. The Sox grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Carlton Fisk and added a pair of markers in the fourth on a solo round-tripper by Dwyer and RBI double by Dave Rader. Dwyer connected for a bases-empty circuit clout in the sixth and a two-run single by Fisk keyed a four-run seventh.

[DH] Orioles 9, Tigers 2 (night game) / Orioles 8, Tigers 6 at Detroit (night game):
The Orioles drew within four games of New York in the A.L. East race by sweeping a doubleheader from the Tigers, 9-2 and 8-6. Al Bumbry led off the first game with a double and Lenn Sakata walked before a single by Ken Singleton produced the first run. Eddie Murray then unloaded a three-run homer. Murray also singled home runs in the first and second innings of the nightcap as the Birds registered three tallies in each frame to take a 6-0 lead.

Rangers 6, A's 2 at Oakland (night game):
Making a successful big league debut, John Butcher tossed a six-hitter for the Rangers in a 6-2 victory over the A's. A two-run homer by Johnny Grubb in the fifth inning and solo blast by Rusty Staub in the sixth gave Butcher all the support he needed. Butcher gave up both A's runs in the first inning and didn't allow a man beyond second base after that.

Yankees 7, Blue Jays 4 at Toronto (night game):
Rallying for four runs in the top of the ninth inning, the Yankees downed the Blue Jays, 7-4, enabling Tommy John to become a 20-game winner for the third time in the last four seasons. Trailing, 4-3, entering the ninth, the Yanks took the lead on a double by Bobby Murcer, triple by Oscar Gamble and pinch-single by Bob Watson, the latter safety coming off Jerry Garvin, who had relieved Jays starter Dave Stieb. After Mike Barlow replaced Garvin on the mound for the Jays, Rick Cerone rapped the reliever's first pitch for a two-run homer.

Reds 6, Braves 1 at Atlanta (night game):
A five-run outburst in the first inning carried the Reds to a 6-1 victory over the Braves, ending Atlanta's seven-game winning skein. The Reds opened with five consecutive singles with the last three -- by Dave Concepcion, George Foster and Dan Driessen -- each driving in a run. With two out, Ron Oester was intentionally walked to load the bases but winning pitcher Frank Pastore foiled that strategy by dumping a single to short right, driving in two runs.

Phillies 6, Pirates 2 at Philadelphia (night game):
The Phillies snapped a three-game losing streak and extended the Pirates' losing streak to lour games, 6-2. The Phillies broke a 2-2 deadlock in the eighth inning on an RBI single by Greg Luzinski. Larry Bowa added a two-run double and the fourth run scored on Tug McGraw's sacrifice bunt.

Cubs 6, Cardinals 2 at St. Louis (night game):
Three errors by the Cardinals contributed to a four-run third inning that helped the Cubs to a 6-2 victory. Ivan DeJesus began Chicago's third by reaching first safely on an error by shortstop Tommy Herr. After a single by Lenny Randle, DeJesus scored on a double by Bill Buckner. A single by Jim Tracy plated Randle and Buckner scored when catcher Ted Simmons dropped the throw to the plate after a grounder to third by Carlos Lezcano. The bases became loaded when pitcher Bob Forsch threw wildly to second on an attempted forceout and Tracy then scored on Tim Blackwell's forceout.
