Angels 4, Royals 3 at California (night game):
The Angels outlasted the Royals, 4-3, as K.C. played its third straight game without George Brett, sidelined by a hand injury. The Angels scored in the first inning when Dickie Thon doubled, moved to third on a groundout and came in on an RBI groundout by Carney Lansford. Dan Ford smashed a solo homer in the third and the Angels got their final runs in the seventh on an error by K.C. right fielder Jose Cardenal and run-scoring single by Thon.

Mariners 4, White Sox 1 at Chicago (night game):
Rick Honeycutt and Byron McLaughlin combined on a seven-hitter as the Mariners defeated the White Sox, 4-1. The Mariners scored in the second inning on an RBI single by Marc Hill, in the third on a sacrifice fly by Reggie Walton, in the fourth on a wild pitch and in the sixth on a run-scoring single by Walton.

Red Sox 4, Indians 3 at Cleveland (night game):
Pushing across a run in the top of the ninth inning, the Red Sox shaded the Indians, 4-3. The score was 3-3 in the ninth when Jim Dwyer drew a one-out walk and took second on a sacrifice by Glenn Hoffman. Garry Hancock's ground single to right plated the winning tally.

Orioles 2, Tigers 0 at Detroit (night game):
The Orioles moved within three games of New York in the A.L. East by blanking the Tigers, 2-0, on a three-hitter by Scott McGregor. The Birds scored in the fifth inning on a leadoff homer by Doug DeCinces and added another run in the seventh on a double by DeCinces, single by Rick Dempsey and a sacrifice fly by pinch-hitter Lee May.

Twins 15, Brewers 2 at Minnesota (night game):
Roy Smalley went 4-for-5 and Ron Jackson slugged a three-run double to pace a 22-hit attack that carried the Twins to a 15-2 thrashing of the Brewers. Smalley singled home the Twins' first run with two out in the first inning and the Twins registered six tallies in the fourth on eight singles. A two-run homer by John Mayberry in a four-run third inning spurred the Blue Jays to a 6-4 triumph over the Yankees, ending the Yanks' eight-game winning streak. The Jays trailed, 2-1, when Garth Iorg singled to open the botton of the fourth and, one out later, Mayberry drilled his round-tripper.
