Today's scores and summaries:

Angels 8, Royals 3 at California (night game):
Scoring seven runs in their last two turns at bat, the Angels defeated the Royals, 8-3. The score was 1-1 when K.C. center fielder Amos Otis dropped Rod Carew's routine fly to start the Angels' seventh. Walks to Jason Thompson and Dan Ford then loaded the bases. One run came in as Bobby Grich bounced into a fielder's choice, and Bobby Clark and Dave Skaggs followed with RBI singles. A two-run single by Grich highlighted a three-run eighth.

White Sox 4, Mariners 3 at Chicago (day game):
A two-run double by Harold Baines keyed a three-run eighth inning that lifted the White Sox to a 4-3 victory over the Mariners. With the Sox trailing, 3-1, Lamar Johnson began the eighth with a single and went to third on a double by Jim Morrison. Baines' two-bagger plated Johnson and Morrison, and Baines reached third when Joe Simpson mishandled the ball for an error. A sacrifice fly by Marv Foley then scored Baines.

Indians 7, Red Sox 4 at Cleveland (night game):
A five-run outburst in the sixth inning lifted the Indians to a 7-4 victory over the Red Sox. The key blow in the big frame was a bases-loaded single by Dave Rosello.

Orioles 8, Tigers 4 at Detroit (night game):
Orioles' pitchers walked 13 Tigers, but Baltimore still prevailed, 8-4, with all their runs being driven in by designated hitters. A pinch-hit grand slam by Pat Kelly in the sixth inning was the big blow. The Birds loaded the bases on singles by Ken Singleton and Eddie Murray and a walk to Gary Roenicke before Kelly unloaded on a 3-1 pitch. Terry Crowley drilled a three-run homer in the fourth inning.

Brewers 3, Twins 1 at Minnesota (night game):
A two-run homer by Ben Oglivie in the first inning triggered the Brewers to a 3-1 victory over the Twins. Oglivie's clout followed a two-out double by Cecil Cooper. Oglivie drove in the other Brewers' run in the third with a sacrifice fly.

A's 3, Rangers 1 at Oakland (day game):
Mike Norris pitched his 20th complete game as the A's posted a 3-1 triumph over the Rangers. After the A's loaded the bases in the third inning on singles by Rob Picciolo and Rickey Henderson and a walk to Jim Essian, Tony Armas delivered a two-run single. Then in the eighth, Armas drilled a solo homer. Norris stopped the hitting streak of the Rangers' Mickey Rivers at 24 games.

Yankees 7, Blue Jays 6 at Toronto (night game):
Rallying for five runs in the seventh inning, the Yankees registered a 7-6 triumph over the Blue Jays. The Yanks trailed, 6-2, in the seventh when Willie Randolph and Bobby Murcer walked and Oscar Gamble and Reggie Jackson followed with RBI singles. One out later, a single by Rick Cerone plated Gamble. Bucky Dent forced Cerone at second but Damaso Garcia threw wildly to first attempting to get a double play and Jackson scored the tying run. Dent took third on a wild pitch and scored on Aurelio Rodriguez' single.

Reds 3, Braves 0 at Atlanta (night game):

The score was 3-3 at the end of nine innings. The Dodgers went ahead in the top of the 11th on a two-run pinch-single by Gary Thomasson, but the Astros regained a tie in the bottom of the frame on an RBI double by Danny Heep and run-scoring infield single by Gary Woods.

Expos 4, Cubs 2 at Montreal (day game):
Bill Gullickson struck out 18 batters -- a record for a rookie and one short of the major league record shared by Steve Carlton, Nolan Ryan and Tom Seaver -- to lead the Expos to a 4-2 triumph over the Cubs. The Expos snapped a 2-2 tie in the sixth when Rowland Office walked, reached second on an infield hit by Andre Dawson and scored when Cubs pitcher Rick Reuschel's throw to first sailed into right field. Montreal added an insurance tally in the seventh on an RBI single by Rodney Scott.

The Padres trailed, 2-1, in the eighth but tied the game when pinch-runner Paul Dade scored from second on Frisco pitcher Greg Minton's wild throw to first base. A single by Luis Salazar and walk to Broderick Perkins then loaded the bases and Dave Winfield delivered a two-run single.

Pirates 7, Cardinals 6 at St. Louis (night game):
