Today's scores and summaries:
Angels 8, Royals 3 at California (night game):
Scoring seven runs in their last two turns at bat, the Angels defeated the Royals, 8-3. The score was 1-1 when K.C. center fielder Amos Otis dropped Rod Carew's routine fly to start the Angels' seventh. Walks to Jason Thompson and Dan Ford then loaded the bases. One run came in as Bobby Grich bounced into a fielder's choice, and Bobby Clark and Dave Skaggs followed with RBI singles. A two-run single by Grich highlighted a three-run eighth.
White Sox 4, Mariners 3 at Chicago (day game):
A two-run double by Harold Baines keyed a three-run eighth inning that lifted the White Sox to a 4-3 victory over the Mariners. With the Sox trailing, 3-1, Lamar Johnson began the eighth with a single and went to third on a double by Jim Morrison. Baines' two-bagger plated Johnson and Morrison, and Baines reached third when Joe Simpson mishandled the ball for an error. A sacrifice fly by Marv Foley then scored Baines.

A pinch-hit grand slam by Pat Kelly in the sixth inning was the big blow.
