Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 8, Red Sox 6 at Baltimore (night game):
The Orioles took advantage of Red Sox misplays to come from behind with three runs in the eighth inning and gain an 8-6 victory. The winning surge began when John Lowenstein singled and raced to third on a single by Doug DeCinces. Rich Dauer then grounded to Rick Burleson and Carlton Fisk took the shortstop's throw off the base, Lowenstein scoring to tie the game at 6-6. Burleson then fumbled Mark Belanger's grounder and the bases were loaded for Al Bumbry, who stroked a two-run single.

Blue Jays 9, Tigers 7 at Detroit (night game):
A two-run, two-out single by Ernie Whitt snapped a ninth-inning tie and gave the Blue Jays a 9-7 victory over the Tigers. Whitt's blow came off Pat Underwood with the bases loaded. Roy Howell belted two homers to help the Blue Jays build a 7-4 lead, but John Wockenfuss drilled a three-run pinch-homer for the Tigers in the eighth to tie the score.

Angels 2, Brewers 1 at Milwaukee (night game):
The Angels posted their fifth straight victory, downing the Brewers, 2-1. Bobby Grich led off the Angels' seventh inning with a single and was forced at second by Bobby Clark. A single by Larry Harlow moved Clark to third and Dave Skaggs drew a walk to load the bases. Dickie Thon then delivered a two-run single.

Twins 8, Rangers 2 at Minnesota (night game):
Blasting off for four runs in the first inning, the Twins went on to an 8-2 victory over the Rangers. The first two runs of the opening frame came in on a throwing error by Bump Wills, Glenn Adams getting credit for one RBI on the play. Butch Wynegar capped the uprising with a two-run single. Wynegar drove in his third run of the game with a fourth-inning single after a triple by Adams.

Yankees 5, Indians 4 at New York (night game):
Rallying in the ninth inning, the Yankees exploded for four runs to triumph over the Indians, 5-4. The Yanks began their comeback with walks to Bucky Dent and Bobby Murcer. Mike Stanton replaced Wayne Garland on the hill for the Indians and, after getting one out, gave up consecutive run-scoring singles to Bobby Brown and Bob Watson. Sid Monge took over the mound chores and retired Reggie Jackson on a groundout that moved the runners up. Eric Soderholm then batted for Oscar Gamble and stroked a single that delivered the tying and winning runs.

A's 6, White Sox 4 at Oakland (night game):
A three-run homer by Tony Armas in the seventh inning lifted the A's to a 6-4 decision over the White Sox as Rick Langford recorded his 26th complete game of the season. The A's were behind, 4-2, when Rickey Henderson hit a leadoff single. After Dwayne Murphy walked, Mike Heath sacrificed the runners along. Mike Proly replaced Britt Burns on the mound for the White Sox and was greeted by Armas' blast.

Mariners 7, Royals 3 at Seattle (night game):
Homers by Jerry Narron, Willie Horton and Dave Edler powered the Mariners to a 7-3 victory over the Royals. The Mariners scored five runs in the first inning, two on a single by Dan Meyer and three on a homer by Narron. Horton clouted a solo round-tripper in the third and Edler blasted a bases-empty shot in the fourth.

Cubs 6, Mets 5 at Chicago (day game):
Bruce Sutter struck out Jerry Morales with the tying run on second base to stem a five-run ninth-inning uprising by the Mets and preserve a 6-5 victory for the Cubs. The Mets trailed, 6-0, entering the ninth, but knocked out starter Mike Krukow and reliever Lee Smith on a five-hit barrage before Sutter came on. Ivan DeJesus batted in two runs for the Cubs, who benefited from two unearned runs plus another tally on a balk.

Dodgers 4, Braves 2 at Los Angeles (night game):
The Dodgers snapped their four-game losing streak by beating the Braves, 4-2. The Dodgers scored twice in the second inning on a double by Jay Johnstone and singles by Derrel Thomas, Bob Welch and Davey Lopes. Another run counted in the third on a double by Steve Garvey and single by Johnstone, and the final tally came in the sixth as Thomas doubled and scored on a single by Welch.

Expos 7, Pirates 1 at Pittsburgh (night game):
A six-run rally in the sixth inning carried the Expos to a 7-1 triumph over the Pirates behind the three-hit pitching of Steve Rogers. Pittsburgh errors contributed heavily to the outburst. Rodney Scott led off with a walk, moved to second on a groundout and scored on a two-base error by third baseman Bill Madlock in handling a grounder by Andre Dawson. Gary Carter followed with a double and, after an intentional walk to Warren Cromartie and two-run single by Larry Parrish, Bert Blyleven was derricked in favor of Enrique Romo. Chris Speier walked and two runs came in when second baseman Phil Garner erred on Rogers' grounder. Jerry White delivered the final marker of the frame with a single.

Padres 9, Astros 4 at San Diego (day game):
Batting around in the fourth and fifth innings, the Padres pounded the Astros, 9-4. The Padres scored four times in the fourth on a two-run single by Broderick Perkins, sacrifice fly by Tim Flannery and infield hit by john Curtis. They added five more in the fifth. Perkins accounted for one run with a single, and Salazar knocked in two with a single. The other runs scored on a double by Gene Richards.

Reds 2, Giants 1 at San Francisco (night game):
An eighth-inning single by Dan Driessen drove in the decisive run as the Reds edged the Giants, 2-1. With two out in the eighth, Dave Concepcion walked and moved to third on a single by George Foster. Gary Lavelle replaced Alan Hargesheimer on the mound and Driessen bounced a single up the middle to plate Concepcion.

Cardinals 6, Phillies 3 at St. Louis (night game):
Combining on a six-hitter, Al Olmsted and John Littlefield pitched the Cardinals to a 6-3 decision over the Phillies as Garry Templeton, going 3-for-5, raised his league-leading batting average to .326. The Cardinals scored three runs in the second inning on singles by Dane Iorg, Ken Oberkfell, Templeton and Keith Hernandez, plus a wild pitch. Olmsted collected his first major league hit -- an RBI single in the eighth -- to go with his first big league victory.
