Today's scores and summaries:

White Sox 5, Angels 4 at California (night game):
Lamar Johnson batted in the White Sox' first two runs and Mike Squires drove in two more before a grounder by Harold Baines added the deciding marker in a 5-4 victory over the Angels. Johnson accounted for his RBIs with singles in the first and third innings. Squires singled for two runs in the fourth and a fielder's choice on Baines' grounder then produced what proved to be the deciding marker.

Indians 5, Orioles 4 at Cleveland (night game):
A bases-loaded double by Bo Diaz in the eighth inning sparked the Indians to a 5-4 victory over the Orioles, who fell 5½ games behind the Yankees in the East Division race. After Joe Charboneau hit a two-run pinch-homer in the seventh to tie the score at 2-2, the Indians filled the sacks in the eighth on a single by Mike Hargrove, double by Gary Alexander and intentional pass to Toby Harrah. Diaz' double drove in two runs and Dell Alston followed with a single to register what proved to be the winning marker.

Yankees 7, Tigers 5 at Detroit (night game):
Batting after an intentional pass to Bob Watson had loaded the bases, Eric Soderholm hit a grand-slam homer to power the Yankees to a 7-5 victory over the Tigers. With one out in the third inning, Willie Randolph walked, Bucky Dent doubled and after a walk to Watson, Soderholm hit the 100th homer of his major league career. Before the inning ended, the Yankees added two more runs. Two RBIs by Ricky Peters and two by Steve Kemp helped the Tigers pull within one run at 6-5, but Randolph iced the Yankee victory with a homer in the ninth inning.

Twins 3, Royals 0 at Minnesota (night game):
Minnesota Owner Calvin Griffith signed interim Manager Johnny Goryl to direct the club in 1981 and the Twins reacted by defeating the Royals, 3-0, for their seventh straight victory. Geoff Zahn fashioned the shutout on a six-hitter. Butch Wynegar drove in the Twins' first run with a single in the second inning and Hosken Powell capped the scoring with a two-run homer in the sixth to spoil Dennis Leonard's bid for his 20th victory.

Brewers 10, A's 7 at Oakland (night game):
An inside-the-park homer by Ben Oglivie with the bases loaded in the ninth inning lifted the Brewers to a 10-7 victory over the A's. The Brewers had back-to-back homers by Robin Yount and Cecil Cooper in the fifth but trailed, 7-5, going into the final frame. Charlie Moore singled to open the stanza and was forced by Paul Molitor, but Yount and Cooper both singled to load the bases. Oglivie followed with a drive to center field where the ball eluded Dwayne Murphy as Oglivie raced around the bases behind his three teammates.

Mariners 7, Rangers 2 at Seattle (night game):
Driving in three runs apiece, Dan Meyer and Jerry Narron batted the Mariners to a 7-2 victory over the Rangers. Meyer drove in a run with a single in the first inning and homered with a man on base in the third. Narron homered with two aboard in the sixth as the Mariners pinned the defeat on Fergie Jenkins, who made his first start since being reinstated by an arbiter's decision after being suspended following his arrest in Canada for alleged drug possession.
