Today's scores and summaries:

[DH] Orioles 5, Red Sox 2 (night game) / Orioles 4, Red Sox 3 at Boston (night game):
The Orioles kept their pennant hopes alive by sweeping a doubleheader from the Red Sox, 5-2 and 4-3. Dennis Martinez hurled a five-hitter in the opener and the Birds scored in the second inning on an infield out by Doug DeCinces, then picked up two more runs in the fourth on back-to-back homers by DeCinces and Rick Dempsey. Dempsey also doubled home an eighth-inning tally. The Orioles trailed, 3-2, entering the sixth inning of the nightcap when Ken Singleton lashed a one-out triple and Eddie Murray followed with a circuit swat.

Angels 6, Brewers 2 at California (night game):
The Angels ended their four-game losing streak by defeating the Brewers, 6-2. The Angels went ahead in the fourth inning on a walk to Carney Lansford, RBI double by John Harris and run-scoring single by Brian Downing. They added another run in the fifth on an RBI double by Rod Carew. A two-run double by Downing keyed a three-run seventh.

Tigers 8, Blue Jays 2 at Toronto (night game):
Alan Trammell collected five hits, including two doubles, to pace the Tigers to an 8-2 pounding of the Blue Jays. The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the third on a single by Trammell, a stolen base and RBI single by John Wockenfuss. Detroit made it 3-0 in the fifth on an RBI double by Tom Brookens and run-scoring single by Al Cowens. A two-bagger by Lou Whitaker and single by Trammell drove in a pair of tallies in the sixth.

Expos 5, Cardinals 2 at Montreal (night game):
A three-run pinch-homer by John Tamargo in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted the Expos to a 5-2 triumph over the Cardinals. With the game tied, 2-2, Gary Carter began Montreal's ninth by reaching first base safely on an error by Redbirds third baseman Ken Reitz. After Warren Cromartie sacrificed Carter to second and Larry Parrish was walked intentionally, Carter reached third as Willie Montanez bounced into a fielder's choice. Tony Bernazard ran for Montanez and Tamargo then delivered his first round-tripper of the season. The Expos had deadlocked game in the eighth on a double steal by Jerry White and Ron LeFlore and a sacrifice fly by Rowland Office.

Mets 5, Pirates 4 at New York (day game):
Atoning for an error that gave Pittsburgh a run in the top of the 10th inning, Joel Youngblood cracked a two-run homer in the bottom of the frame to give the Mets a 5-4 victory over the Pirates before 1,787 fans, the smallest crowd ever for a baseball game at Shea Stadium. Hubie Brooks led off the Mets' 10th with a single and, two outs later, Youngblood connected for the circuit. The Bucs had taken a 4-3 lead in the top of the frame on a two-base error by Youngblood on Dale Berra's fly and a run-scoring single by Bernie Carbo.

Phillies 6, Cubs 5 at Philadelphia (night game):
Staging a desperate rally in the bottom of the 15th inning, the Phillies edged the Cubs, 6-5, to remain a half-game behind Montreal in the East Division race. After the Cubs snapped a 3-3 tie in the top of the 15th on a sacrifice fly by Scot Thompson and RBI double by Carlos Lezcano, Lonnie Smith and Pete Rose walked to begin the bottom of the frame and both runners advanced on a wild pitch. A groundout by Bake McBride scored Smith and moved Rose to third. Dennis Lamp relieved Doug Capilla on the mound for Chicago and got Mike Schmidt on a popout, but Garry Maddox stroked a single to tie the game. Keith Moreland followed with a single and Larry Bowa walked to load the bases. Manny Trillo then lined a single up the middle to plate the winning tally.
