Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 11, Red Sox 6 at Boston (night game):
Unleashing a 15-hit attack, the Orioles outslugged the Red Sox, 11-6, in a game that featured six home runs. The Orioles had a solo shot by Ken Singleton in the first inning, two-run blast by Eddie Murray in the fourth and leadoff clout by Dan Graham in the fifth. The Red Sox got a two-run round-tripper by Jim Rice and bases-empty blow by Dwight Evans, both in the eighth, and a two-run bash by Carlton Fisk in the ninth. Al Bumbry drove in a run with a single in the ninth, making him the first Oriole in history to collect 200 hits in one season.

Brewers 4, Angels 2 at California (night game):
Homers by Ben Oglivie and Paul Molitor supplied the power as the Brewers downed the Angels, 4-2. Oglivie's round-tripper came with two out in the first inning and Cecil Cooper aboard via a single. Molitor's blast came with the bases empty in the eighth.

A's 5, White Sox 1 at Chicago (night game):
Rickey Henderson stole his 97th base of the season, breaking the A.L. record held by Ty Cobb since 1915, as the A's defeated the White Sox, 5-1. Henderson opened the sixth inning with a single and, after a theft of second, Dwayne Murphy walked and Mike Heath drilled a two-run triple. A single by Jim Essian plated Heath.

Indians 12, Yankees 9 at Cleveland (night game):
Knocking out ace reliever Rich Gossage with a four-run rally in the eighth inning, the Indians outlasted the Yankees, 12-9, cutting the Yanks' lead in the East Division to 2½ games. After a three-run pinch-homer by Dennis Werth gave the Yankees a 9-8 lead in the seventh, the Indians retaliated in the eighth. Alan Bannister opened with a single and took second on a passed ball. A pinch-single by Joe Charboneau plated Bannister. Miguel Dilone ran for Charboneau. After Dave Rosello singled, Gossage struck out Tom Veryzer and Jorge Orta before walking Rick Manning to load the bases. Mike Hargrove then singled to drive in two runs and, after Ron Hassey followed with an RBI single, Gossage went to the showers.

Royals 7, Mariners 5 at Kansas City (night game):
A three-run homer by George Brett in the 14th inning enabled the Royals to snap their eight-game losing streak by beating the Mariners, 7-5. After Dave Edler's squeeze bunt in the top of the 14th had given the Mariners a 5-4 lead, Willie Wilson opened the bottom of the frame with a single. U.L. Washington followed with a single and Brett then connected for the circuit.

Tigers 5, Blue Jays 3 at Toronto (night game):
Two homers by Alan Trammell and one each by Champ Summers and Al Cowens carried the Tigers to a 5-3 victory over the Blue Jays. Trammell connected for a two-run shot in the third inning and added a solo blast in the eighth. Summers cracked a 2-2 tie with a leadoff swat in the fourth and, with two outs in the same inning, Cowens hit for the circuit.

Padres 3, Reds 2 at Cincinnati (night game):
A homer by Gene Tenace and the steady pitching of John Curtis combined to give the Padres a 3-2 victory over the Reds, further reducing Cincinnati's slim chances for the West Division title. Tenace crashed his 17th homer of the season in the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie.

Astros 7, Braves 3 at Houston (night game):
The Astros continued their drive toward the West Division championship by defeating the Braves, 7-3. The Astros scored twice in the first inning on a single by Joe Morgan, triple by Enos Cabe!l and double by Terry Puhl. Morgan stroked an RBI single in the second stanza and Jose Cruz belted a three-run double in the fifth. Dave Smith, replacing starter Nolan Ryan, earned his 10th save by allowing the Braves only four hits over the final 3 1/3 innings.

Expos 7, Cardinals 2 at Montreal (night game):
A homer by Larry Parrish with two men on base highlighted a five-run sixth inning that carried the Expos to a 7-2 triumph over the Cardinals. The Expos trailed, 2-1, but tied the game on a bloop triple by Rodney Scott and groundout by Rowland Office. Andre Dawson then followed with a triple and came home on a double by Gary Carter. Warren Cromartie was intentionally walked before Parrish drilled his round-tripper. Dawson swatted a solo homer in the seventh.

Mets 3, Pirates 2 at New York (day game):
Scattering seven hits, Pete Falcone hurled the Mets to a 3-2 victory over the Pirates before a crowd of 1,754, the smallest baseball turnout in Shea Stadium history. The Mets were behind, 2-1, going into the bottom of the seventh but scored two runs on a double by Steve Henderson, single by Mike Jorgensen and one-out sacrifice fly by Alex Trevino.

Phillies 14, Cubs 2 at Philadelphia (night game):
Pounding out 15 hits, the Phillies routed the Cubs, 14-2, as rookie Marty Bystrom posted his fifth straight victory since joining the club September 1. The Phils scored four runs in the first inning on a pass to Pete Rose, single by Bake McBride, sacrifice fly by Mike Schmidt, pass to Del Unser, double by Keith Moreland and single by Larry Bowa. A two-run single by McBride was the key blow in a four-run sixth. Rookie outfielder Orlando Isales tripled in his first major league at-bat and drove in two of the Phillies' four runs in the seventh.

Dodgers 6, Giants 3 at San Francisco (night game):
A three-run homer by Pedro Guerrero in the 10th inning lifted the Dodgers to a 6-3 victory over the Giants. The Dodgers trailed, 3-1, entering the ninth, but tied the game on RBI singles by Guerrero and Steve Garvey. A single by Mickey Hatcher, a forceout and single by Pepe Frias preceded Guerrero's decisive blow in the 10th.
