Orioles 12, Red Sox 8 at Boston (night game):
Ken Singleton drove in four runs with four hits and Terry Crowley, Eddie Murray and Rich Dauer each clouted homers to lead the Orioles to a 12-8 victory over the Red Sox and spoil Johnny Pesky's debut as interim manager of Boston. The Orioles scored three runs in the first inning, one on a single by Singleton and two on a homer by Murray. A three-run round-tripper by Crowley broke a 3-3 tie in the third. Dauer drilled a solo swat in the fourth and the Orioles locked up the contest with a five-run uprising in the fifth as Dan Graham and Doug DeCinces singled in runs and Singleton doubled home three tallies.

Brewers 10, Angels 7 at California (night game):
Charlie Moore, Ben Oglivie and Paul Molitor all collected four hits and hit solo homers to lead the Brewers to a 10-7 victory over the Angels. Moore hit for the cycle with a single in the second inning, circuit clout in the fourth, a triple that broke a 5-5 tie in the sixth and a double in the eighth. Molitor's round-tripper led off the game. Oglivie swatted his homer in the seventh.

A's 11, White Sox 3 at Chicago (day game):
Mike Norris posted his 22nd victory and went the route for the 24th time in 33 starts as the A's routed the White Sox, 11-3. The A's took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI double by Mickey Klutts and sacrifice fly by Jim Essian. Mike Heath knocked in two runs with a triple in the third and scored on a single by Tony Armas. The A's sent 10 men to the plate in the eighth when they registered five tallies.

Yankees 18, Indians 7 at Cleveland (night game):
The Yankees moved closer to the East Division championship by outslugging the Indians, 18-7. Oscar Gamble and Rick Cerone clouted three-run homers, Aurelio Rodriguez drilled a two-run blast and Bobby Brown and Reggie Jackson hit solo shots.

Royals 4, Mariners 1 at Kansas City (night game):
George Brett went 3-for-3, including a homer, to raise his average to .391 as the Royals downed the Mariners, 4-1. The Royals scored in the first inning when Willie Wilson singled, stole second, took third on a groundout and scored on a groundout by Willie Aikens. Brett's homer led off the fourth.

Tigers 11, Blue Jays 7 at Toronto (night game):
Posting their fifth straight victory, the Tigers prevailed over the Blue Jays, 11-7, with the decision going to Mark Fidrych, who pitched five innings. Detroit scored in the second inning on a two-run single by Tom Brookens and added six runs in the third, sending 11 men to the plate. Lou Whitaker batted in two runs with a single.

Reds 2, Padres 1 at Cincinnati (night game):
A two-run homer by George Foster in the ninth inning lifted the Reds to a 2-1 victory over the Padres. Junior Kennedy led off with a single before Foster drilled a ball into the left field seats. The Padres had taken a 1-0 lead in the eighth on an RBI groundout by Dave Winfield.

Astros 5, Braves 2 at Houston (night game):
A four-run outburst in the second inning carried the Astros to a 5-2 victory over the Braves behind the six-hit pitching of Vern Ruhle. Alan Ashby began the Astros' second with a double and, after two outs, Joe Morgan and Enos Cabell walked to load the bases. Terry Puhl then blooped a double off the glove of second baseman Glenn Hubbard to drive in three runs. Jose Cruz capped the rally with a single.

Expos 8, Cardinals 0 at Montreal (night game):
Scattering six hits, David Palmer hurled the Expos to a 8-0 victory over the Cardinals. The Expos took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning on a leadoff double by Andre Dawson and triple by Gary Carter. They added two more runs in the sixth on a single by Rowland Office, triple by Dawson and a balk. The Expos scored five times in the seventh with a two-run single by Rodney Scott highlighting the outburst.

Pirates 10, Mets 5 at New York (day game):
A grand slam by relief pitcher Enrique Romo for his first major league homer and a two-run blow by Dave Parker highlighted a 16-hit attack that carried the Pirates to a 10-5 decision over the Mets. Parker's blast came in the first inning. The Pirates were behind, 3-2, in the fourth but took the lead on run-scoring singles by Bill Robinson and Ed Ott. In the eighth, singles by Steve Nicosia, Omar Moreno and Tim Foli loaded the bases and set the stage for Romo's shot to right-center field.

Phillies 5, Cubs 0 at Philadelphia (night game):
After flirting with a no-hitter for seven innings, Steve Carlton settled for a two-hitter in pitching the Phillies to a 5-0 victory over the Cubs. The only hits off the ace southpaw were a leadoff single by Mike Vail in the eighth and two-out single by Bill Buckner in the ninth. The Phils scored four runs in the sixth on back-to-back homers by Mike Schmidt and Greg Luzinski, a triple by Del Unser, infield out by Manny Trillo, singles by Larry Bowa and Bob Boone and a sacrifice fly by Carlton. Boone singled home the Phillies' final run in the eighth.

Dodgers 8, Giants 4 at San Francisco (night game):
Driving in six runs with a homer, triple and infield out, Joe Ferguson paced the Dodgers to an 8-4 victory over the Giants. The Dodgers took a 4-0 lead in the second inning on singles by Ron Cey and Pedro Guerrero, triples by Ferguson and Derrel Thomas and a squeeze bunt by Jack Perconte. In the fifth, Mickey Hatcher singled, Guerrero walked and Ferguson unloaded a three-run circuit swat.
