Today's scores and summaries:

Red Sox 10, Rangers 4 at Boston (day game):
Raising his league-leading batting average to .485, Carney Lansford rapped out three hits and drove in two runs as the Red Sox pounded the Rangers, 10-4. Lansford gave Boston the lead for good with an RBI single in the fourth inning and added an RBI double in the sixth and a single in the seventh. Carl Yastrzemski delivered a run-scoring single in the fifth and a two-run single during a three-run eighth.

Mariners 3, Angels 0 at California (night game):
Retiring the final 20 batters, Floyd Bannister fired a two-hitter to lead the Mariners to a 3-0 triumph over the Angels. The only hits yielded by the southpaw were an infield single by Rod Carew in the first inning and a single by Butch Hobson in the third. The Mariners scored in the first inning on an RBI single by Richie Zisk, in the second on a run-scoring single by Jim Anderson and in the eighth on an RBI single by Bruce Bochte.

White Sox 2, Orioles 1 at Chicago (night game):
Pushing across a run in the bottom of the ninth inning, the White Sox edged the Orioles, 2-1. Wayne Nordhagen opened the ninth by hitting a grounder to shortstop Mark Belanger, who threw the ball away for a two-base error. Rusty Kuntz ran for Nordhagen and reached third on an infield hit by Greg Pryor. Bob Molinaro walked to load the bases and Tony Bernazard then got a bloop single, his fourth hit of the game, to plate the winning run.

Indians 4, Royals 1 at Kansas City (night game):
A three-run outburst in the top of the ninth inning carried the Indians to a 4-1 triumph over the Royals. The game was tied, 1-1, when Tob Harrah began the top of the ninth with a walk and scored on a double by Bo Diaz, who was thrown out trying to stretch the hit into a triple. Rick Manning then walked, stole second, reached third on a groundout and came in on a double by Alan Bannister. Jorge Orta followed with another two-bagger to cap the rally.

Yankees 2, Tigers 0 at New York (night game):
With Doug Bird pitching six strong innings in his first start of the season and Rich Gossage registering his third save, the Yankees blanked the Tigers, 2-0. The game's first run came in the first inning when Willie Randolph reached first safely on third baseman Mick Kelleher's error, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Reggie Jackson. A grounder by Oscar Gamble drove in the second marker of the frame.

A's 4, Twins 3 at Oakland (night game):
A single by Tony Armas in the bottom of the 10th inning lifted the A's to a 4-3 decision over the Twins. Rickey Henderson began the A's 10th with a single and stole second as Dwayne Murphy struck out. After Dave Revering was intentionally walked, Wayne Gross coaxed a base on balls to load the bases for Armas, who lined a single to center.

Brewers 6, Blue Jays 2 at Toronto (night game):
Scattering nine hits in Milwaukee's first route-going job of the season, Moose Haas hurled the Brewers to a 6-2 victory over the Blue Jays as a three-run homer by Ben Oglivie was the big hit of the game. The Brewers' first run came in the fourth inning on an error by Jays' first baseman John Mayberry and they got three in the sixth on Oglivie's circuit clout that followed singles by Robin Yount and Cecil Cooper.

Braves 10, Reds 1 at Cincinnati (night game):
Pitching eight strong innings and driving in two runs, Tommy Boggs led the Braves to a 10-1 triumph over the Reds. The Braves tallied in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Bob Horner and upped their lead to 2-0 in the sixth on a run-scoring single by Claudell Washington. Boggs delivered RBI singles in the seventh and ninth, when a seven-run outburst was climaxed by a three-run homer by Horner.

Astros 1, Dodgers 0 at Houston (night game):
Starring both on the mound and at bat, Bob Knepper keyed the Astros to a 1-0 victory over the Dodgers. The southpaw stymied the Dodgers on a three-hitter and scored the game's only run when he led off the bottom of the third inning with a double and, two outs later, tallied on Cesar Cedeno's ground single up the middle.

Expos 10, Phillies 3 at Montreal (day game):
Rookie Tim Raines went 4-for-5, drove in two runs and tied a club record with four stolen bases to pace the Expos in a 10-3 rout of the Phillies. The Expos broke a 2-2 tie in the fifth inning when Raines scored after a single by Rodney Scott. Scott came home on a sacrifice fly by Ellis Valentine. Montreal iced the game with a five-run sixth on a two-run single by Raines, RBI fielder's choice groundout by Scott and two-run single by Valentine. The Expos tied a club record with seven stolen bases.

Padres 3, Giants 1 at San Diego (night game):
Combining with Gary Lucas on a four-hitter, Chris Welsh received credit for his first major league victory as the Padres topped the Giants, 3-1. The Padres scored twice in the fifth inning on a leadoff single by Terry Kennedy, two-out walk to Gene Richards and a two-run double by Ozzie Smith. The final run came in the eighth on a throwing error by San Francisco reliever Al Holland.

Cardinals 8, Cubs 0 at St. Louis (day game):
Yielding just five hits, Andy Rincon recorded his first major league shutout as the Cardinals downed the Cubs, 8-0, to extend St. Louis' win streak to five games. After the Redbirds took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI groundout by George Hendrick, they exploded for six runs in the third frame on an infield hit by Keith Hernandez, a double by Hendrick, two-run double by Gene Tenace, two-run triple by Tommy Herr and a run-scoring single by Rincon.
