Today's scores and summaries:

[DH] White Sox 18, Orioles 5 (day game) / White Sox 5, Orioles 3 at Chicago (day game):
The White Sox victimized Baltimore pitching for 26 hits, most ever against the Orioles in a single game, for an 18-5 whipping in the opener and then gained the doubleheader sweep with a 5-3 win in the nightcap. Chet Lemon drove in four runs and Bill Almon and Greg Pryor add three RBIs each as Chicago scored in each of the first six innings of the first game. Lemon and Almon each drove in two runs in a seven-run fourth that broke open a 3-3 contest. Chicago trailed 3-2 in the fifth inning of the second game when Pryor singled and Almon walked. After both runners advanced on an infield out by Tony Bernazard, Harold Baines smacked a two-run single to right. Jim Essian's run-scoring double added an insurance run in the sixth to give Francisco Barrios, who pitched 6 1/3 innings, his first victory since May 15, 1980. Ken Singleton clubbed three homers in the doubleheader for Baltimore.

Reds 5, Astros 4 at Houston (night game):
The Reds squandered a 4-0 lead, but rebounded to break a four-game losing streak when Dan Driessen singled home Ken Griffey with two out in the 10th inning for a 5-4 decision over the Astros. Tom Seaver had a no-hitter until Craig Reynolds connected for a one-out single in the seventh. The Astros then tied the game with four runs in the eighth. Griffey opened the 10th with a single, took second on an error by Houston shortstop Dickie Thon and scored on Driessen's hit.

Dodgers 3, Padres 1 at Los Angeles (night game):
Continuing the recovery from his subpar sophomore season when he was 3-9, Rick Sutcliffe won his second successive decision by handcuffing San Diego on five hits before getting ninth-inning relief help from Steve Howe in the Dodgers' 3-1 triumph over the Padres. Sutcliffe helped his own cause with a run-scoring single in the second. Steve Garvey produced an RBI hit in the sixth and Ken Landreaux drove in the final Los Angeles run in the seventh. The Padres averted the shutout in the eighth when Jerry Turner slugged a pinch-homer.

Braves 7, Giants 3 at San Francisco (day game):
John Montefusco earned his first victory in an Atlanta uniform at the expense of his former mates with relief from Rick Camp and the hitting support of Chiris Chambliss and Eddie Miller, who drove in two runs each as the Braves trimmed the Giants, 7-3. With the score tied, 3-3, in the fifth inning, Claudell Washington and Bob Horner stroked two-out singles before Chambliss sent the Braves ahead to stay with a two-run double.
