Orioles 7, Red Sox 2 at Baltimore (day game):
The Orioles snapped their four-game losing skein, beating the Red Sox, 7-2, behind the four-hit pitching of Mike Flanagan. The Birds collected six singles in a three-run fourth inning with Benny Ayala, Doug DeCinces and Gary Roenicke driving in runs. DeCinces put the game away with a three-run double in the fifth frame.

Rangers 8, Indians 4 at Cleveland (day game):
A three-run homer by Jim Sundberg highlighted an 8-4 victory by the Rangers over the Indians. Texas scored three runs in the first inning on an RBI single by Mickey Rivers, RBI groundout by Johnny Grubb and a run-scoring single by Pat Putnam. Sundberg's clout came in the fifth frame and followed a single by Grubb and an error.

White Sox 4, Tigers 0 at Detroit (day game):
Combining on a seven-hitter, Ross Baumgarten and LaMarr Hoyt pitched the White Sox to their fifth straight victory, a 4-0 blanking of the Tigers, Detroit's sixth straight loss. The Sox tallied twice in the sixth when Tony Bernazard singled, Carlton Fisk was hit by a pitch and Lamar Johnson drove in both runners with a double. Chet Lemon added insurance with a two-run homer in the ninth.

Royals 4, Brewers 2 at Milwaukee (day game):
Three-hit pitching by Larry Gura carried the Royals to a 4-2 triumph over the Brewers, ending the K.C. losing streak at four games. The Royals erupted for three runs in their first turn at bat. Willie Wilson started the game with a single, reached second on a groundout and scored on a single by George Brett. Willie Aikens then drilled a ball into the right field bleachers for his third homer of the season.

Angels 6, Twins 4 at Minnesota (day game):
A three-run homer by Rick Burleson climaxed a five-run seventh inning that rallied the Angels to a 6-4 decision over the Twins. The Angels trailed, 4-1, in the seventh when they loaded the bases on singles by Brian Downing and Juan Beniquez and a walk to Bobby Grich. A sacrifice fly by Bert Campaneris scored Downing. Rod Carew then hit a sacrifice fly that Gary Ward dropped for an error, scoring Beniquez and sending Grich to third while Carew reached second. Burleson cleared the sacks with his round-tripper.

Blue Jays 7, Yankees 2 at New York (day game):
Homers by John Mayberry and Lloyd Moseby helped power the Blue Jays to a 7-2 triumph over the Yankees as Jackson Todd scattered six hits in going the route. Mayberry clouted a two-run homer in the first inning and Danny Ainge stroked a two-run single in the fifth. Moseby's round-tripper was a two-run inside-the-park affair and followed a run-scoring squeeze bunt by Ernie Whitt in the ninth inning. Losing pitcher Rudy May was charged with his first loss since last July 22 after winning 11 straight decisions.

A's 7, Mariners 4 at Seattle (night game):
The rampaging A's posted their 16th win in 17 games by beating the Mariners, 7-4. The A's scored two runs in the first inning on a two-run single by Mike Heath and made it 3-0 in the second on a leadoff homer by Rickey Henderson. Phillies 7, Cubs 5 at Chicago (day game):
A three-run rally in the eighth inning lifted the Phillies to a 7-5 victory over the Cubs, Chicago's 11th straight loss. The Phils were behind, 5-4, when Bake McBride began the eighth with a single and was replaced by pinch-runner Lonnie Smith, who went to third on a single by Mike Schmidt and scored on a single by Garry Maddox. A single by Larry Bowa plated Schmidt and, after Rawly Eastwick replaced Dick Tidrow on the hill for the Cubs, a single by Bob Boone scored Maddox.

Reds 2, Astros 1 at Houston (day game):
Three Cincinnati pitchers combined on a three-hitter as the Reds shaded the Astros, 2-1. The Reds scored in the second inning when Dan Driessen walked, reached second on an infield single by Ray Knight, advanced to third on a fielder's choice and came home as Ron Oester grounded out. Expos 4, Mets 2 at Montreal (day game):
Taking advantage of unusual wildness by New York's Randy Jones, the Expos defeated the Mets, 4-2. Montreal scored twice in the second inning when Jones walked opposition pitcher Steve Rogers with the bases loaded. Then he proceeded to uncork a wild pitch to give the Expos a 2-0 advantage. Warren Cromartie hit a two-run homer in the fourth.

Cardinals 5, Pirates 1 at Pittsburgh (day game):
A three-run homer by Gene Tenace keyed the Cardinals to their seventh straight victory, a 5-1 decision over the Pirates. The Redbirds trailed, 1-0, in the seventh inning when George Hendrick stroked a one-out single and Sixto Lezcano walked. Tenace then followed with his round-tripper.
