Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 5, White Sox 2 at Baltimore (night game):
Raising his batting average to .512 with his second consecutive 4-for-4 game, Ken Singleton knocked in the go-ahead run in the fifth inning, helping the Orioles defeat the White Sox, 5-2, ending Chicago's six-game winning skein. The score was 2-2 when Al Bumbry began the bottom of the fifth with a walk, stole second, reached third on a single by Rich Dauer and scored when Singleton lofted a short pop fly that fell for a two-bagger. The Birds added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth on a bases-loaded squeeze bunt by Mark Belanger and sacrifice fly by Bumbry.

Yankees 3, Tigers 1 at Detroit (night game):
Combining on a five-hitter, Ron Guidry and Rich Gossage pitched the Yankees to a 3-1 victory over the Tigers, Detroit's eighth straight loss. The game was scoreless when Graig Nettles opened the seventh inning with a walk and, one out later, scored on a double by Steve Balboni. Bucky Dent then connected for a two-run homer.

Brewers 4, Blue Jays 3 at Milwaukee (night game):
Pushing across a run in the 12th inning, the Brewers edged the Blue Jays, 4-3. The game was tied, 3-3, when Paul Molitor began the Brewers' 12th with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice by Robin Yount. Cecil Cooper then beat out a single in the hole at shortstop and a wild throw to first by Alfredo Griffin permitted Molitor to reach third. Ben Oglivie hit a chopper to second and reached first as Molitor was caught in a rundown and tagged out at the plate. After Milwaukee Manager Buck Rodgers was ejected for arguing the call on Molitor, Larry Hisle singled up the middle to plate Cooper with the winning run.

Mariners 8, Twins 3 at Minnesota (day game):
A grand slam by Lenny Randle climaxed a five-run 10th inning that lifted the Mariners to an 8-3 triumph over the Twins. The score was 3-3 when Richie Zisk opened the 10th with a single and was replaced by pinch-runner Kim Allen, who raced to third on a single by Bruce Bochte and scored on a single by Dan Meyer. Two outs later, Rick Auerbach drew a walk to load the bases and Randle then drilled a ball deep into the right field stands.

Angels 3, A's 2 at Oakland (night game):
Permitting only three hits, Ken Forsch pitched the Angels to a 3-2 triumph over the A's despite a triple play by Oakland. Don Baylor was the key batsman of the game, driving in California's first run with a sacrifice fly in the second, breaking a 2-2 tie with a solo homer in the fourth and hitting into a triple play in the sixth. The triple play came with runners on first and second when Baylor lined a 3-2 pitch to shortstop Rob Picciolo, who stepped on second for the second out and threw to first for the third out. Juan Beniquez made a clutch fielding play in the eighth when he leaped to grap Mike Heath's drive just before it would have gone over the left field wall.

Rangers 10, Red Sox 0 at Texas (night game):
Pounding out 14 hits, the Rangers blasted the Red Sox, 10-0, behind the eight-hit pitching of Doc Medich. Texas jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a single by Mickey Rivers and two-run homer by Buddy Bell, and picked up four more tallies in the sixth on a run-scoring double by Pat Putnam and a bases-loaded infield single by Billy Sample that Bosox shortstop Glenn Hoffman threw into right field, clearing the sacks.

Dodgers 5, Giants 0 at Los Angeles (night game):
Rookie sensation Fernando Valenzuela pitched his fourth shutout and fifth straight victory and collected three hits, raising his batting average to .438 in leading the Dodgers to a 5-0 decision over the Giants. The Dodgers scored four runs in the fourth inning on run-scoring singles by Valenzuela and Davey Lopes and a two-run single by Ken Landreaux.

Phillies 3, Expos 1 at Philadelphia (night game):
Yielding just four hits, Dick Ruthven hurled the Phillies to a 3-1 triumph over the Expos, halting Montreal's winning streak at six games. The Phillies scored two runs in the first inning on a walk to Lonnie Smith, run-scoring triple by Pete Rose and RBI groundout by Gary Matthews. They added a run in the fourth when Mike Schmidt walked, went to second when Manny Trillo was hit by a pitch and came home on a two-out single by Larry Bowa.
