Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 3, White Sox 0 at Baltimore (night game):
Three first-inning runs were all Dennis Martinez needed as the Orioles blanked the White Sox, 3-0. A single by Ken Singleton plated Al Bumbry with the first run and Benny Ayala smacked a two-run homer. Dennis Martinez scattered seven hits before Tippy Martinez came in two get the final two outs.

Yankees 3, Tigers 2 at Detroit (day game):
The first A.L. home run by Dave Winfield provided the margin as the Yankees defeated Detroit, 3-2, extending the Tigers' losing streak to 10 games. Bucky Dent led off the third inning with a double and scored on a single by Jerry Mumphrey before Winfield's winning clout. Rudy May picked up his fourth victory, with 2 1/3 innings of hitless relief help from Ron Davis.

Blue Jays 5, Brewers 0 at Milwaukee (night game):
Barry Bonnell drilled a two-run double in the 14th inning, breaking a scoreless tie, and the Blue Jays scored three more en route to a 5-0 win over the Brewers. Bonnell's hit followed a walk to Willie Upshaw and a single by Al Woods. The Brewers were held to three hits and only one in five innings off Jerry Garvin, making his first start since May 29, 1979.

Mariners 7, Twins 7 at Minnesota (day game):
The Twins rallied for three runs in the eighth inning to gain a 7-7 tie with the Mariners just before the game was halted by a violent storm. With one out, pinch-hitter Danny Goodwin doubled home two runs. Dave Engle followed with a triple but was nailed at the plate.

A's 6, Angels 4 at Oakland (day game):
Tim Hosley helped the A's to a 5-4 victory over the Angels by greeting reliever Andy Hassler with a three-run pinch-homer in the seventh inning. Mike Norris won for the fifth time in as many starts, surrendering only five hits. The A's again were involved in an intersquad tussle; after a homer by Dan Ford, A's catcher Mike Heath questioned the legality of the bat and when he offered it to the umpire for inspection the benches emptied.

Rangers 5, Red Sox 0 at Texas (night game):
Danny Darwin allowed only one hit, a bloop single to Rick Miller in the fifth inning, as the Rangers gained their third consecutive shutout victory over the Red Sox, 5-0. The shutout marked the first time in seven years that Boston had been held scoreless three straight games. Johnny Grubb cleared the loaded bases with a double in the first, and Al Oliver connected for a two-run homer in the eighth.

Astros 5, Braves 4 at Atlanta (night game):
A run-scoring single by Jose Cruz in the ninth inning enabled the Astros to snap a 4-4 tie and score a 5-4 victory over the Braves. Denny Walling singled with one out in the ninth and advanced to third on a double by Craig Reynolds. Walling was thrown out trying to score on Cesar Cedeno's grounder, but Cruz followed with a line single to right.

[DH] Cubs 6, Cardinals 1 (day game) / Cardinals 2, Cubs 2 at Chicago (day game):
Bill Buckner broke a 1-1 tie with a two-out, two-run double in the eighth inning, sending the Cubs to a five-run inning that produced a 6-1 victory over the Cardinals in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader. The Cubs ended their 12-game losing streak and snapped an eight-game winning streak for the Cardinals. The second game was suspended because of darkness with the score tied, 2-2, after 11 innings and was scheduled to be resumed July 3. (The game was never resumed and went into the official records as a tie).

Reds 8, Padres 5 at Cincinnati (night game):
Dave Concepcion went on a 4-for-4 spree, hitting two home runs and driving in six runs in leading the Reds to an 8-5 triumph over the Padres. With the score tied, 5-5, in the seventh inning, Concepcion delivered his second homer, which was the deciding blow in the Reds' fifth straight victory over the Padres.

Giants 3, Dodgers 2 at Los Angeles (night game):
A two-run double by Milt May in the fourth inning sent the Giants winging toward a 3-2 victory over the Dodgers as Vida Blue ended a string of three losses to Los Angeles. Greg Minton came on to record his third save after Steve Garvey tapped Blue for a two-run homer in the ninth. May delivered the key blow in the fourth after Jack Clark walked and Larry Herndon doubled. In the seventh, Johnnie LeMaster doubled, advanced on Blue's sacrifice and scored the deciding run as Bill North grounded out.

Pirates 10, Mets 0 at New York (night game):
A two-run homer by Gary Alexander, in his first at-bat this season, touched off a five-run second inning in the Pirates' 10-0 rout of the Mets behind Jim Bibby's five-hit pitching. Alexander, acquired from the Indians in an offseason trade, tripled to score a run in the third and delivered a sacrifice fly in the sixth.

Phillies 6, Expos 2 at Philadelphia (night game):
With nine strikeouts in the Phillies' 6-2 decision over the Expos, Steve Carlton boosted his career total to 3,006 and became the first lefthander in major league history to scale the 3,000 strikeout plateau. The Phillies took a 1-0 lead in the second inning and never were headed. Gary Matthews doubled, advanced to third on Keith Moreland's groundout and scored on a sacrifice fly by Garry Maddox. Carlton drove in two runs, with a single in the fifth and a double in the seventh.
