Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 4, Blue Jays 0 at Baltimore (night game):
Ken Singleton, who entered the game with a .490 hitting mark, slugged his seventh home run and Mike Flanagan tossed a three-hitter in the Orioles' 4-0 victory over the Blue Jays. Singleton's shot came in the first inning. The Orioles scored their other runs in the second on an RBI single by Doug DeCinces, throwing error by Danny Ainge and RBI double by Al Bumbry.

Twins 8, Red Sox 4 at Boston (day game):
Gary Ward, Roy Smalley and Glenn Adams each collected two RBIs to lead the Twins past the Red Sox, 8-4. Smalley put Minnesota in front with a two-run homer in the first inning, his sixth of the year. The Twins chased starter Frank Tanana, 0-3, in the second, scoring three runs on an RBI double by Sal Butera and two-run single by Ward. Jim Rice and Tony Perez hit consecutive home runs for the Red Sox in the ninth. Perez' shot was the 350th of his career.

Brewers 12, Angels 1 at California (night game):
The Brewers, going into this game with a .216 batting average, pounded out 16 hits in a 12-1 rout of the Angels. Roy Howell led the attack with three hits and four RBIs, while Milwaukee hurlers Jerry Augustine and Ricky Keeton limited California to four hits. After having been shut out for 19 consecutive innings, the Brewers scored three runs in the second. Singles by Ted Simmons and Howell plated two, and Gorman Thomas' sacrifice fly scored the other run. Eight of Milwaukee's runs came off reliever John D'Acquisto, who gave up eight hits and six walks in 5 2/3 innings.

Indians 3, White Sox 2 at Cleveland (night game):
Toby Harrah belted a two-run homer and Bo Diaz scored from first on a throwing error by catcher Jim Essian in a three-run seventh, enabling the Indians to gain a 3-2 victory over the White Sox. Held to two hits by Ross Baumgarten over the first six innings, Cleveland received a homer from Harrah with Joe Charboneau on base. Diaz followed with a walk and scored when Essian threw Rick Manning's bunt single past first base. Indians starter Rick Waits scattered nine hits and struck out four in improving his record to 3-0 with an ERA of 1.33.

Tigers 2, Mariners 0 at Seattle (night game):
Allowing only two hits, Dave Rozema halted the Tigers' 10-game losing streak with a 2-0 victory over Seattle. A first-inning single by Richie Zisk, who extended his hitting streak to 13 games, and a third-inning single by Rick Auerbach were the only hits in Rozema's second shutout of the season. The Tigers scored both of their runs in the first on a single by Alan Trammell, walk to Steve Kemp, RBI double by Lance Parrish and infield out by John Wockenfuss.

Rangers 7, Royals 0 at Texas (night game):
Rick Honeycutt continued the Texas hurlers' mound mastery with a five-hitter against the Royals, carrying the Rangers to their fourth straight shutout, 7-0. With 36 consecutive scoreless innings, the Rangers were approaching the A. L. record of 54 innings and 5 shutouts, set by the Orioles in 1974. Texas scored its first run in the third inning on an RBI double by Bump Wills. Then with two out in the fifth inning, the Rangers jumped on starter Rich Gale for four runs. With the bases loaded, Johnny Grubb, who extended his hitting streak to 12 games, singled in two mates. Pat Putnam followed with a double, driving in two more.

Astros 5, Braves 1 at Atlanta (night game):
Craig Reynolds hit a two-run homer in the first inning and Jose Cruz duplicated that feat in the third as the Astros defeated the Braves, 5-1, for their fourth victory in succession. Joe Niekro pitched a five-hitter for his third complete game.

Reds 4, Padres 3 at Cincinnati (night game):
Dan Driessen beat out a drag bunt in the eighth inning, then scored from first base with what proved to be the winning run when a pinch-single by Johnny Bench was misplayed by right fielder Jerry Turner as the Reds downed the Padres, 4-3. Joe Lefebvre stroked a solo homer in the seventh and a two-run homer in the ninth for the Padres.

Pirates 7, Mets 4 at New York (night game):
The Pirates, with John Candelaria annexing his first victory and Tim Foli driving in three runs, completed a three-game sweep of the Mets, 7-4. This was the sixth straight defeat for the Mets and their ninth loss in 10 games. Dave Parker pounded a two-run homer for the Pirates in the third inning.
