Snapping their 19-game losing streak at Memorial Stadium, the Blue Jays prevailed over the Orioles, 4-2. The Jays broke a 2-2 tie when Willie Upshaw led off the eighth inning with a homer, and added another run later in that frame on a single by John Mayberry, a sacrifice, and an RBI infield single by George Bell.

Twins 3, Red Sox 1 at Boston (day game):
Combining on a four-hitter, Pete Redfern and Doug Corbett hurled the Twins to a 3-1 victory over the Red Sox, Boston's seventh straight loss. The Twins scored in the third inning on a two-run single by Glenn Adams and added another marker in the seventh on an RBI grounder by Mickey Hatcher.

Brewers 4, Angels 3 at California (day game):
Mike Caldwell, scattering five hits over 8 2/3 innings, pitched the Brewers to a 4-3 decision over the Angels. The veteran lefty was relieved with two out in the ninth after allowing a solo homer by Don Baylor, and Rollie Fingers recorded the save. The Brewers scored twice in the first inning on a run-scoring double by Cecil Cooper and sacrifice fly by Ben Oglivie, and added another pair in the sixth on a run-scoring double by Larry Hisle and RBI single by Don Money.

White Sox 6, Indians 0 at Cleveland (day game):
The White Sox blanked the Indians, 6-0, behind the five-hit hurling of Richard Dotson, ending Chicago's four-game losing skein. Chet Lemon and Tony Bernazard stroked run-scoring singles in the fifth, and a sacrifice fly by Mike Squires and RBI double by Carlton Fisk completed the scoring in the sixth.

[DH] Yankees 3, A's 2 (day game) / Yankees 2, A's 0 at Oakland (day game):
The Yankees swept a twin-bill from the A's, winning the opener, 3-2 in 10 innings and capturing the nightcap, 2-0. The first game was tied, 2-2, when Jerry Mumphrey led off the 10th inning with a homer. Tommy John and Rich Gossage combined on a six-hitter in the second game. Jim Spencer cracked a leadoff homer in the seventh inning and the Yanks picked up another tally in the eighth on a run-scoring single by Dave Winfield.

Tigers 8, Mariners 5 at Seattle (day game):
Taking advantage of Seattle errors, the Tigers rallied for five runs in the seventh inning to post an 8-5 victory over the Mariners. The Tigers trailed, 5-3, when Lou Whitaker led off the seventh with a single and reached second safely when second baseman Julio Cruz dropped the throw from shortstop Jim Anderson on an attempted forceout on Ricky Peters' grounder. Two outs later, Larry Andersen replaced Bryan Clark on the mound and induced Lance Parrish to hit a grounder to shortstop Anderson, who bobbled the ball, allowing Whitaker to score. A walk to pinch-hitter Richie Hebner loaded the bases and an infield single by Al Cowens plated Peters with the tying run. Shane Rawley then took over on the hill and walked Kirk Gibson to force in Parrish with the lead run.

Rangers 9, Royals 8 at Texas (night game):
A leadoff homer by Pat Putnam in the bottom of the 10th inning lifted the Rangers to a 9-8 come-from-behind triumph over the Royals. Dodgers 6, Expos 1 at Montreal (day game):
The Expos halted Fernando Valenzuela's latest scoreless streak at 35 2/3 innings, but the rookie sensation held on to extend his record to 6-0 as the Dodgers knocked off the Expos, 6-1 in 10 innings. The lefty pitched the first nine stanzas and allowed only five hits. The lone run off him was only the second in 54 innings this season for an ERA of 0.33. A single by Ozzie Smith chased home both runners. The second contest was knotted, 4-4, when Alex Trevino drew a one-out walk in the seventh and Doug Flynn followed with a single. Youngblood then drilled a ball into the left field bullpen.

After the Bucs tied the game in the third on a run-scoring double by Omar Moreno, the Astros went ahead in the fourth when Alan Ashby, who had reached first on a fielder's choice, advanced to second on a walk to Sutton and scored on a single by Terry Puhl. Houston tallied an insurance marker in the eighth on a leadoff triple by Art Howe and run-scoring single by Kiko Garcia.
