Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 5, Twins 4 at Baltimore (night game):
The Orioles shaded the Twins, 5-4, as Minnesota bungled a rundown play that permitted the winning run to score in the bottom of the ninth inning. The Birds trailed, 4-3, in the ninth when Rick Dempsey drew a one-out walk, took second on a single by Lenn Sakata and scored on a single by Al Bumbry as Sakata reached third and Bumbry reached second on the play at the plate. Doug Corbett replaced Jack O'Connor on the mound for the Twins and induced Mark Belanger to hit a grounder to third baseman John Castino, whose throw home nailed Sakata for the second out. Catcher Sal Butera then threw to second baseman Rob Wilfong and Belanger was caught in a rundown. But Belanger knocked the ball from Wilfong's glove and Bumbry raced home with the winning run.

Yankees 5, Angels 2 at California (night game):
Driving in four runs with a two-run homer and two-run double, Bucky Dent sparked the Yankees to a 5-2 decision over the Angels. After the Yanks took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Dave Winfield, Dent drilled a two-run double in the second and blasted a round-tripper in the fourth. While at bat in the sixth inning, Dent was hit on the wrist by a John D'Acquisto pitch and was forced to leave the game. X-rays showed no broken bones but Dent's arm was placed in a split and he was scheduled for further examination.

Red Sox 3, Royals 1 at Kansas City (night game):
Four-hit pitching by Dennis Eckersley and a two-run homer by Dwight Evans enabled the Red Sox to subdue the Royals, 3-1. Evans' blast came in the eighth inning and scored Jerry Remy, who was aboard via a single. The Sox added an insurance tally in the ninth on a two-run single by Rick Miller following a double by Carney Lansford. George Brett's single drove in the Royals' marker in the first frame, and was only his second RBI of the season.

Tigers 3, A's 2 at Oakland (night game):
Milt Wilcox went the route on a seven-hitter as the Tigers pushed across a run in the eighth inning to edge the A's, 3-2. The game was tied, 2-2, when Al Cowens reached second leading off the eighth as third baseman Wayne Gross threw the ball past first. Cowens went to third when Rickey Henderson threw behind the runner after catching a line drive to left by Rick Leach. Tom Brookens then delivered a fly to right and Cowens beat Tony Armas' throw home by a step.

Mariners 12, Brewers 1 at Seattle (night game):
The Mariners made Rene Lachemann's debut as manager successful by pasting the Brewers, 12-1. Lachemann replaced Maury Wills as Seattle's pilot earlier in the day after Wills was dismissed following the club's 6-18 start. Winning pitcher Mike Parrott, 1-16 last season, broke his personal 18-game losing streak, not having won since opening day of 1980. The Mariners' attack was led by Jim Anderson, who singled in a run in the second inning, doubled home two tallies in the fourth and drove in two more with a bases-loaded single in the seventh.

Rangers 4, White Sox 2 at Texas (night game):
A single by Bill Stein in the seventh inning snapped a 2-2 tie as the Rangers posted a 4-2 victory over the White Sox. Jim Sundberg led off the bottom of the seventh with a single and, one out later, moved to third on a single by Bump Wills. Stein then delivered a run-scoring single to right and Al Oliver followed with an RBI fielder's choice grounder to plate Wills. The Sox had tied the game in the top of the frame on run-scoring singles by Lamar Johnson and Bob Molinaro.

Indians 4, Blue Jays 1 at Toronto (night game):
Bert Blyleven pitched eight innings of no-hit ball before yielding two hits and a run in the ninth inning as the Indians defeated the Blue Jays, 4-1. The bid for a no-hitter ended when Lloyd Moseby lined the first pitch of the ninth frame for a two-bagger and George Bell followed with a pinch-single to drive in a run. The Tribe took advantage of Toronto errors in the third canto to score three runs. The first run came when right fielder Barry Bonnell made an overthrow to the plate and the other two runs registered when third baseman Danny Ainge permitted a grounder to get past him.

Cubs 2, Astros 1 at Chicago (day game):
A single by Ken Reitz drove home the winning run as the Cubs edged the Astros, 2-1, in 11 innings. Steve Dillard opened the Cubs' 11th with a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice by Tim Blackwell. After pinch-hitter Jim Tracy struck out, Reitz followed with his game-winning hit.

Reds 9, Pirates 8 at Cincinnati (night game):
A run-scoring single by Johnny Bench climaxed a two-run rally in the bottom of the ninth inning that lifted the Reds to a 9-8 triumph over the Pirates. The Reds trailed, 8-7, when Dave Collins began the bottom of the ninth with a walk and raced to third when third baseman Phil Garner misplayed a sacrifice bunt by Ken Griffey. Kent Tekulve replaced Grant Jackson on the hill for the Bucs and yielded an RBI single to Dave Concepcion. George Foster, who hit a two-run homer and RBI single earlier, was intentionally walked to load the sacks. Bench then singled to center to plate the decisive tally.

Padres 13, Expos 5 at Montreal (night game):
Lambasting three Montreal pitchers for 19 hits, the Padres enjoyed a 13-5 rout of the Expos. The Padres began with a four-run outburst in the first inning on a run-scoring single by Terry Kennedy and three-run homer by Broderick Perkins, and added three more runs in the fifth on an RBI single by Ruppert Jones, run-scoring double by Perkins and RBI single by Luis Salazar. Jones doubled home two more tallies in the sixth and Joe Lefebvre singled home another pair in the same frame. Mike Gates, Tim Raines and Tim Wallach lashed three consecutive triples in the bottom of the ninth to tie the league record.

Giants 6, Mets 4 at New York (night game):
Greg Minton pitched 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief to preserve a 6-4 victory for the Giants over the Mets. The Giants scored in the first inning on a bases-loaded walk to Jerry Martin and put the game away with a three-run sixth on a sacrifice fly by Billy Smith and run-scoring singles by Enos Cabell and Jack Clark. Joel Youngblood went 4-for-5 for the Mets, giving him 13 hits in his last 17 at-bats.

Dodgers 2, Phillies 1 at Philadelphia (night game):
Scattering five hits, Burt Hooton hurled the Dodgers to a 2-1 triumph over the Philles, ending the Phils' four-game winning skein. The Dodgers grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Steve Garvey singled, moved to second on a walk to Ron Cey and scored on a single by Pedro Guerrero. Cey drilled a solo homer in the fourth.

Braves 10, Cardinals 2 at St. Louis (night game):
Driving in five runs, Chris Chambliss paced the Braves to a 10-2 drubbing of the Cardinals as Gaylord Perry recorded his 292nd career victory. The Braves trailed, 2-1, entering the sixth inning but went ahead with a three-run uprising on an RBI fielder's choice grounder by Chambliss, run-scoring single by Biff Pocoroba and a wild pitch. They added a pair in the seventh on a single by Eddie Miller, triple by Claudell Washington and single by Chambliss.
