Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 6, A's 5 at Baltimore (night game):
The Orioles recorded their seventh straight victory with a 6-5 decision over the A's, who suffered their sixth consecutive loss. The Birds snapped a 4-4 tie in the seventh inning on a solo homer by Eddie Murray and run-scoring single by Doug DeCinces. A bases-empty round-tripper by Wayne Gross in the top of the eighth left the A's one run shy.

Red Sox 4, Mariners 0 at Boston (night game):
Unfurling a five-hitter, Frank Tanana pitched the Red Sox to a 4-0 whitewashing of the Mariners. Carl Yastrzemski cracked a two-run double after the bases were loaded in the fifth inning on a walk to Rich Gedman and singles by Jerry Remy and Dwight Evans. Tony Perez belted a homer in the eighth following a walk to Jim Rice.

Indians 7, Angels 3 at Cleveland (night game):
Bo Diaz cracked a three-run homer and Dan Spillner scattered six hits over eight innings in his first start of the year as the Indians defeated the Angels, 7-3. The game was tied, 2-2, when Andre Thornton and Toby Harrah slapped consecutive two-out singles in the third frame and Diaz followed with his second round-tripper of the season.

Tigers 14, Rangers 1 at Detroit (night game):
Unleashing a 16-hit attack, the Tigers broke a seven-game losing streak with a 14-1 rout of the Rangers. Champ Summers drove in the game's first run with a first-inning single and the Tigers scored five times in the second on run-scoring singles by Ricky Peters and Alan Trammell, a two-run triple by Richie Hebner and RBI single by Summers. Tom Brookens blasted a three-run homer in the eighth.

Brewers 4, Twins 3 at Milwaukee (night game):
A two-run homer by Cecil Cooper and solo shot by Ted Simmons helped power the Brewers to a 4-3 decision over the Twins, Minnesota's sixth straight loss. Simmons slammed his round-tripper in the second inning to tie the score at 1-1. In the third, Roy Howell doubled and Cooper connected for the circuit. Ed Romero drilled a run-scoring double in the seventh. John Castino hit a two-run homer for the Twins in the ninth before Rollie Fingers relieved and notched his seventh save.

Yankees 6, Royals 5 at New York (night game):
Rallying from a 5-0 deficit, the Yankees edged the Royals, 6-5. After the Bronx Bombers pulled within 5-4 in the fourth inning, Graig Nettles led off the N.Y. fifth with a single and Jim Spencer followed with a circuit shot off the facing of the upper deck in right field.

Blue Jays 9, White Sox 5 at Toronto (night game):
Otto Velez and John Mayberry blasted solo homers and drove in two runs apiece to pace the Blue Jays to a 9-5 triumph over the White Sox. Velez broke a 3-3 tie in the second inning with a run-scoring triple and belted his circuit clout in the sixth. Mayberry stroked an RBI single in the fourth to give Toronto a 5-3 lead and added a homer in the eighth.

Reds 5, Cubs 0 at Chicago (day game):
Scoring all their runs in the sixth inning, the Reds blanked the Cubs, 5-0, behind the combined pitching of Tom Seaver and Paul Moskau. Seaver hurled the first five frames before leaving because of tightness in his left thigh. The victory was the Reds' seventh straight and the loss was the Cubs' seventh in a row. It was also the seventh time that the pathetic Cubs have been shut out this year. Ron Oester led off the sixth with a single before a single by Ken Griffey and walk to Dan Driessen loaded the bases. Ray Knight then delivered a two-run single. After Joe Nolan was walked intentionally, Junior Kennedy followed with a run-scoring single and Harry Spilman, pinch-hitting for Seaver, lined a two-run double to cap the outburst.

Phillies 3, Dodgers 2 at Los Angeles (night game):
Tossing a seven-hitter, Dick Ruthven registered his fourth straight victory as the Phillies shaded the Dodgers, 3-2. The Phils broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the third inning on a walk to Lonnie Smith, infield hit by Pete Rose, walk to Gary Matthews and a two-run double by Garry Maddox. Dusty Baker cracked a solo homer in the bottom of the frame, but Ruthven permitted only three singles thereafter.

Pirates 5, Braves 0 at Pittsburgh (night game):
Jim Bibby yielded a single to the first batter of the game and then retired the next 27 as the Pirates ended their three-game losing skein by beating the Braves, 5-0. The only hit off the veteran righthander was an opposite-field looper to right by Terry Harper. The Bucs scored in the second inning on a run-scoring sigle by Omar Moreno and added another marker in the fifth when Bibby doubled and tallied on a two-base hit by Lee Lacy. They put the game on ice with a three-run sixth on a two-run double by Steve Nicosia and RBI two-bagger by Bibby.

Padres 3, Expos 1 at San Diego (night game):
Rick Wise allowed only four hits in seven innings to gain the victory as the Padres beat the Expos, 3-1. Gary Carter gave Montreal a 1-0 lead with a homer in the second inning, but the Padres rallied for three tallies in the fifth on an RBI single by Ozzie Smth and two-run single by Ruppert Jones. Gary Lucas hurled the final two frames to notch his sixth save.

Giants 4, Mets 1 at San Francisco (night game):
The Giants sent the Mets reeling to their ninth straight loss, defeating them, 4-1. The game was tied, 1-1, going into the bottom of the sixth when Joe Morgan singled, stole second and scored on a single by Darrell Evans. The Giants added a pair of insurance tallies in the seventh on a triple by Jerry Martin, double by Milt May and sacrifice squeeze bunt by winning pitcher Al Holland. Greg Minton, who relieved in the ninth, notched his eighth save.

Cardinals 15, Astros 12 at St. Louis (night game):
In a ragged affair reminiscent of married men playing against single men at a company picnic, the Cardinals outlasted the Astros, 15-12. The Redbirds trailed, 9-7, going into the bottom of the sixth inning but went ahead to stay on run-scoring singles by Garry Templeton, Tony Scott and George Hendrick. They put the game on ice with a five-run seventh on a two-run pinch-double by Sixto Lezcano, run-scoring triple by Templeton, RBI fielder's choice grounder by Scott and run-scoring single by Keith Hernandez.
