Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 5, Angels 3 at Baltimore (night game):
The streaking Orioles posted their seventh straight victory, beating the Angels, 5-3. The Birds scored three runs in the second inning on a run-scoring double by Gary Roenicke, RBI single by Rick Dempsey and RBI double by Mark Belanger. Ken Singleton drilled a run-scoring two-bagger in the fifth and Roenicke delivered a sacrifice fly in the eighth. Dennis Martinez, going seven innings, picked up his fifth consecutive win.

Red Sox 5, A's 3 at Boston (night game):
A two-run single by Rick Miller in the seventh inning was the big blow as the Red Sox sent the A's to their seventh straight loss, 5-3. The score was 3-3 when Tony Perez began the bottom of the seventh with a single. One out later, Dave Stapleton received a base on balls. Both runners advanced as Rich Gedman bounced out to the pitcher, and Miller followed with a ground single to right.

Mariners 3, Indians 1 at Cleveland (night game):
Combining on a five-hitter, Brian Allard and Shane Rawley pitched the Mariners to a 3-1 triumph over the Indians, handing Len Barker the loss in his first start since hurling a perfect game. Seattle broke a 1-1 tie in the fourth when Gary Gray singled, stole second and scored on a double by Tom Paciorek, and added an insurance run in the ninth on a homer by Jeff Burroughs, the first round-tripper off the Tribe's pitching in 124 innings.

Tigers 8, Rangers 4 at Detroit (night game):
Raising his record to 5-3 with his fourth straight victory, Jack Morris gave up just five hits in pitching the Tigers to an 8-4 decision over the Rangers. The Tigers took a 4-3 lead in the sixth inning on a two-run single by Al Cowens, and put the game out of reach in the seventh on two-run doubles by Richie Hebner and Lance Parrish. Buddy Bell drove in all Texas runs with a three-run homer in the fourth and sacrifice fly in the eighth.

Brewers 6, Twins 1 at Milwaukee (night game):
The Brewers won their fifth straight game, 6-1 over the Twins, who lost their seventh straight. Milwaukee snapped a 1-1 tie in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Ed Romero and a wild pitch, and added three runs in the eighth on an RBI double by Ted Simmons and run-scoring singles by Romero and Jim Gantner. Jim Slaton, going seven frames, was the winning pitcher as Rollie Fingers recorded his eighth save.

Yankees 5, Royals 4 at New York (night game):
Completing the three-game series sweep, the Yankees prevailed over the Royals, 5-4 in 11 innings. The game was deadlocked, 4-4, when Dave Winfield led off the N.Y. 11th by smashing a grounder off the ankle of shortstop Rance Mulliniks that was ruled a two-base error. Reggie Jackson then received an intentional walk and, after Oscar Gamble forced Jackson, pinch-hitter Jerry Mumphrey recieved an intentional pass to load the bases. With both the infield and outfield drawn in, Graig Nettles drilled a ball off the wall in right-center to end the game.

White Sox 6, Blue Jays 5 at Toronto (night game):
Carlton Fisk went 4-for-5 and drove home the tie-breaking run in the eighth inning as the White Sox shaded the Blue Jays, 6-5. The Jays had battled back from a 5-1 deficit to deadlock the game in the seventh on a two-run homer by Damaso Garcia. Ron LeFlore began the Sox eighth by reaching first on an error by shortstop Alfredo Griffin. He then stole second and raced home on a single by Fisk.

Reds 10, Cubs 7 at Chicago (day game):
The Reds won their eighth straight game on a 10-7 decision over the Cubs, Chicago's eighth consecutive defeat. The Reds were behind, 5-4, when they loaded the bases in the seventh inning on a pinch-single by Harry Spilman, error by Cubs third baseman Hector Cruz and a fielder's choice on a sacrifice bunt. A single by Dave Concepcion scored Spilman to tie the game and, two outs later, Ray Knight drew a bases-loaded walk. Cincinnati iced the game in the ninth on a run-scoring double by Concepcion and three-run homer by Doug Bair.

Dodgers 3, Phillies 2 at Los Angeles (night game):
Rick Monday led off the bottom of the 10th inning with a pinch-homer off Tug McGraw to lift the Dodgers to a 3-2 triumph over the Phillies in a battle of round-trippers. The Dodgers had scored twice in the second inning on a two run circuit clout by Pedro Guerrero, and the Phils had knotted the count in the third on a solo blast by Mike Schmidt.

Pirates 6, Braves 1 at Pittsburgh (night game):
Mike Easler slammed two home runs and drove in four runs in a 3-for-4 performance to lead the Pirates to a 6-1 victory over the Braves. Easler drilled a three-run homer in the opening frame and blasted a solo shot in the third. Rick Rhoden, going the first six innings before being relieved by Enrique Romo, raised his record to 5-0.

Expos 6, Padres 2 at San Diego (night game):
Andre Dawson cracked a pair of solo homers and Steve Rogers spaced eight hits in going the distance for the first time in nine starts as the Expos posted a 6-2 decision over the Padres. The Expos tallied twice in the initial frame on a two-run single by Willie Montanez, and Dawson's first circuit clout made it 3-0 in the third. Dawson's second homer came in the ninth.

Mets 4, Giants 3 at San Francisco (day game):
The Mets snapped their nine-game losing streak, edging the Giants, 4-3, on a sacrifice fly by Alex Trevino in the 10th inning. The score was 3-3 when Lee Mazzilli led off the 10th with a walk. One out later, Joel Youngblood got an infield hit and Dave Kingman dropped a single to short center to load the bases. Trevino then lofted a fly ball to center and Mazzilli easily beat the throw home to tally the winning run. Jeff Reardon worked two scoreless frames of relief to earn the victory.

Astros 4, Cardinals 3 at St. Louis (night game):
Scoring with two out in the 11th inning, the Astros edged the Cardinals, 4-3. The game was tied, 3-3, going into the 11th, when Bruce Sutter took up the pitching chores for the Cards and retired the first two batters. But Alan Ashby bounced a single up the middle and Rafael Landestoy, who had only one RBI for the season going into the game, lashed a triple to right-center to chase Ashby home with the decisive run.
