Today's scores and summaries:

White Sox 9, Angels 5 at California (night game):
Two homers by Greg Luzinski paced the White Sox to a 9-5 victory over the Angels. Luzinski's first round-tripper gave the Pale Hose a 1-0 lead in the second inning and the big slugger connected for a three-run clout in the top of the ninth, offsetting the Angels' three-run outburst in the bottom of the eighth. Britt Burns, yielding one run on three hits in five innings, was the winning pitcher but suffered stiffness in his back and was replaced by LaMarr Hoyt. Ed Farmer got the last out to record his fifth save.

Orioles 4, Tigers 2 at Detroit (night game):
A solo homer by Ken Singleton in the eighth inning produced the go-ahead run as the Orioles won over the Tigers, 4-2. The Birds scored twice in the third frane on a run-scoring double by Rich Dauer and an RBI single by Singleton. Singleton's ninth round-tripper of the campaign came with two out in the eighth and the Orioles tallied an insurance marker in the ninth on an RBI single by Gary Roenicke. Tigers' runs came on sacrifice flies by Alan Trammell and Champ Summers in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively. Detroit lost a run in the fourth inning when Steve Kemp, who had tripled, failed to tag up when John Wockenfuss his a short fly to center that Al Bumbry caught while tumbling.

Twins 7, Royals 0 at Kansas City (night game):
The Twins made Billy Gardner's managerial debut successful and ended an eight-game losing streak by blanking the Royals, 7-0, behind the six-hit hurling of Jerry Koosman. Gardner had replaced Johnny Goryl earlier in the day as pilot of Minnesota. The Twins tallied twice in their first turn at bat on a sacrifice fly by John Castino and RBI double by Butch Wynegar. Castino cracked a two-run homer in the sixth stanza and Sal Butera smashed a bases-loaded triple in the ninth.

Red Sox 7, Brewers 3 at Milwaukee (night game):
The Red Sox recorded their fifth straight victory, 7-3 over the Brewers, as Jim Rice and Dwight Evans each blasted two-run homers. Rice's blow came in the first frame to give the Sox a 2-0 and the margin was upped to 5-0 in the second on a two-run single by Jerry Remy and a run-scoring single by Evans. Evans belted his 10th round-tripper in the fourth after Rick Miller reached first base on an error. The loss ended the Brewers' six-game winning skein.

Indians 7, Yankees 3 at New York (night game):
Registering his sixth straight victory, Bert Blyleven spaced seven hits as the Indians downed the Yankees, 7-3. Joe Charboneau belted a three-run homer in the fourth inning to tie the game at 3-3, and the Tribe went ahead in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Bo Diaz. Rick Manning cracked a solo homer in the sixth and Diaz delivered a two-run single in the seventh.

A's 6, Blue Jays 2 at Oakland (night game):
A four-run uprising in the eighth inning enabled the A's to end their eight-game losing streak with a 6-2 decision over the Blue Jays. The score was 2-2 when Rickey Henderson began the winning surge with a single, stole second and scored on a single by Dwayne Murphy. A walk and a hit batsman then loaded the bases and Tony Armas drove in two runs with a single. Mitchell Page capped the outburst with a run-scoring single. Rick Langford recorded his eighth complete game, tops in the league.

Rangers 6, Mariners 2 at Seattle (night game):
Buddy Bell swatted two homers and Danny Darwin tossed a four-hitter to lead the Rangers to a 6-2 victory over the Mariners despite a triple play by Seattle. Bell gave Texas a 1-0 lead in the second inning with a solo shot and the Rangers erupted for four runs in the third when Bump Wills, Mickey Rivers and Al Oliver singled for one tally and Bell followed with a three-run blast. The triple play came in the eighth inning. Johnny Grubb and Pat Putnam walked and were running on the first pitch to Mario Mendoza, who lined to shortstop Rick Auerbach. Auerbach stepped on second to double up Grubb and threw to first to catch Putnam off the bag for the third out.

Padres 5, Braves 2 at Atlanta (night game):
The Padres gained a 5-2 decision over the Braves for their first victory at Atlanta since September of 1979 -- they lost all 9 games there last season -- but they needed the aid of five pitchers to win the game. The Padres took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Luis Salazar and upped the margin to 3-0 in the third on a walk to Gene Richards, double by Broderick Perkins and two-run double by Terry Kennedy. Ozzie Smith and Tim Flannery stroked run-scoring singles in the fourth and sixth frames, respectively.

Expos 6, Cubs 3 at Chicago (day game):
Charlie Lea stretched his string of consecutive scoreless innings to 28 1/3 by hurling four-hit ball for seven innings before leaving the game because of a blister on his pitching hand, and the Expos had a pair of three-run innings to gain a 6-3 decision over the Cubs. Singles by Gary Carter, Warren Cromartie and Tim Wallach filled the bases in the second inning and Chris Speier cleared the sacks with a double. The Expos added three more markers in the fifth on a leadoff homer by Andre Dawson, RBI double by Cromartie and run-scoring single by Wallach.

Dodgers 4, Reds 2 at Cincinnati (night game):
A bases-loaded single by Dusty Baker in the top of the 12th inning snapped a 2-2 tie, boosting the Dodgers to a 4-2 triumph over the Reds. The score was 2-2 when Derrel Thomas began the 12th with a walk and Rick Monday beat out a bunt. After both runners advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Bill Russell and Ken Landreaux was intentionally walked, Baker singled sharply to center to drive in two runs. The Reds had tied the game in the bottom of the eighth on a run-scoring double by Ray Knight.

Giants 6, Astros 3 at Houston (night game):
A two-run single by Darrell Evans in the 15th inning keyed a three-run rally that lifted the Giants to a 6-3 triumph over the Astros. The game was tied, 3-3, going into the 15th, when the Giants loaded the bases on a walk to Johnnie LeMaster, a forceout, single by Enos Cabell and walk to Jack Clark. Evans then dropped a single into right-center to plate two runs and Jerry Martin followed with a run-scoring single. The Giants had taken a 3-2 lead in the top of the 14th on an RBI single by Martin, but the Astros knotted the count in the bottom of the frame on a sacrifice fly by Alan Ashby.

Pirates 3, Phillies 1 at Pittsburgh (night game):
Limiting the Phillies to six hits, Pascual Perez earned his first major league victory and hot-hitting Mike Easler scored two runs and drove in the tie-breaker in the Pirates' 3-1 triumph.

Mets 9, Cardinals 3 at St. Louis (night game):
Yielding just five hits in a route-going effort, Pat Zachry pitched the Mets to a 9-3 victory over the Cardinals. The Mets tallied four times in the third inning to erase a 3-1 deficit on a run-scoring single by John Stearns, bases-loaded walk to Hubie Brooks, a double-play grounder and a wild pitch.
