White Sox 10, Angels 2 at California (day game):
Feasting on California pitching for the third straight day, the White Sox routed the Angels, 10-2. Chicago collected 34 runs and 45 hits in sweeping the three-game set. The Sox scored five runs in the second inning. Chet Lemon singled home the first run and with the bases loaded a single by Ron LeFlore skipped by left fielder Brian Downing for a three-base error.

[DH] Tigers 8, Orioles 2 (day game) / Tigers 5, Orioles 3 at Detroit (day game):
The Tigers mauled the Orioles twice, winning the first game of the doubleheader, 8-2, and the second game, 5-3. Detroit put away the opener with a five-run fourth inning, the runs coming on an RBI double by Tom Brookens and successive two-out, run-scoring singles by Alan Trammell, Steve Kemp, Richie Hebner and Champ Summers. Kemp also had an RBI groundout in the first inning and a two-run homer in the sixth. The second game was tied 3-3 in the eighth when Lance Parrish belted a two-run homer, his second round-tripper of the game. His first circuit swat came in the fourth inning with the bases empty.

Royals 6, Twins 4 at Kansas City (day game):
A five-run rally in the seventh inning lifted the Royals to a 6-4 victory over the Twins. Trailing 4-1 in the seventh, K.C. loaded the bases on singles by John Wathan and Frank White and a walk to Cesar Geronimo. Jack O'Connor took over the mound chores for the Twins and was greeted by a run-scoring single by pinch-hitter Lee May. After a forceout at the plate, Hal McRae singled -- one run scored and pinch-runner Dave Chalk was thrown out at the plate. A walk to George Brett loaded the bases and a single by Willie Aikens plated two more tallies. Amos Otis capped the outburst with an RBI pinch-single.

[DH] Brewers 2, Red Sox 1 (day game) / Brewers 10, Red Sox 7 at Milwaukee (night game):
The Brewers swept a twin-bill from the Red Sox, taking the lidlifter, 2-1 in 14 innings, and capturing the nightcap, 10-7. The score was 1-1 when Charlie Moore opened the bottom of the 14th in the first game with a double and reached third as Robin Yount grounded out. After Ben Oglivie was walked intentionally, Gorman Thomas beat out a bunt to load the bases. Ted Simmons then delivered a sacrifice fly to end the game. Boston tallied six runs in the top of the eighth inning in the second game to take a 7-6 lead, but the Brewers came back in the bottom of the frame with four markers. Boston's six runs came on RBI singles by Tony Perez and Joe Rudi, a run-scoring double by Rick Miller, two bases-loaded walks and a sacrifice fly by Jim Rice. Milwaukee's comeback began when Moore reached first on an error by shortstop Dave Stapleton, went to second on a sacrifice and came home on a pinch-single by Yount. A double by Roy Howell plated Yount, and Cecil Cooper climaxed the rally with a two-run homer.

Indians 12, Yankees 5 at New York (day game):
Exploding for six runs in the first inning, the Indians went on to a 12-5 rout of the Yankees. The Tribe's tallies in the opening frame came on a run-scoring single by Mike Hargrove, a hit batsman with the bases loaded, an error by N.Y. second baseman Larry Milbourne, two-run single by Rick Manning and RBI single by Tom Veryzer. The A's won both ends of a doubleheader from the Blue Jays, 6-5 in a 12-inning first game and 5-0 in the second game as Mike Norris became the league's first seven game winner. After the Jays went ahead, 5-4, in the top of the 11th inning of the opener on a run-scoring single by Garth Iorg, the A's knotted the count in the bottom of the frame on a solo homer by Tony Armas. Rob Picciolo opened the A's 12th with a walk, reached second on a sacrifice and scored on a single by Rickey Henderson. The A's got all of their runs in the second game in the third inning on singles by Picciolo, Henderson and Dwayne Murphy and back-to-back homers by Cliff Johnson and Armas.

Rangers 5, Mariners 3 at Seattle (day game):
Completing the three-game series sweep, the Rangers defeated the Mariners, 5-3. The game was tied, 3-3, when Mickey Rivers began the seventh inning with a single. Al Oliver then reached first on an error by second baseman Lenny Randle and both runners moved up on a wild pitch. Buddy Bell followed with a sacrifice fly and, after Pat Putnam grounded out, a single by Johnny Grubb provided an insurance tally.

Padres 7, Braves 5 at Atlanta (day game):
A two-run pinch-single by Randy Bass in the eighth inning lifted the Padres to a 7-5 victory over the Braves. After Atlanta tied the game at 5-5 in the seventh on a pinch-homer by Terry Harper, Gene Richards led off the eighth with a single. Broderick Perkins then reached first on a fielder's choice and the runners moved up on a sacrifice by Terry Kennedy. After Joe Lefebvre was intentionally walked to load the bases and Juan Bonilla struck out, Bass delivered the game-winning single to right.

Cubs 6, Expos 2 at Chicago (day game):
Winning two consecutive games for the first time since last September, the Cubs upended the Expos, 6-2, as Bill Buckner led the way with three RBIs. The Cubs took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on consecutive two-baggers by Joe Strain and Buckner and upped the margin to 3-0 in the third on Buckner's two-run triple. Chicago's final tallies came in the eighth on a two-run homer by Leon Durham.
