Today's scores and summaries:

Angels 4, Indians 3 at California (night game):
Completing the three-game series sweep, the Angels edged the Indians, 4-3. California loaded the bases in the first inning on a single by Rod Carew and a pair of two-out walks. Don Baylor then singled home two runs. Rick Burleson was hit by a pitch in the third frame and tallied on a double by Fred Lynn. Baylor drilled a solo homer in the eighth.

White Sox 6, Yankees 5 at Chicago (night game):
The White Sox ended the Yankees' nine-game winning streak, 6-5, scoring three times in the first inning on a wild pitch and a two-run double by Wayne Nordhagen. Bill Almon smacked his first A.L. homer, a solo shot in the second stanza, and Greg Luzinski doubled home two runs in the fifth. Ed Farmer stopped a N.Y. rally in the ninth inning, notching his seventh save.

Rangers 12, Brewers 5 at Milwaukee (night game):
Leon Roberts, Bubbdy Bell and Jim Sundberg each homered and combined for 10 RBIs to power the Rangers to a 12-5 pounding of the Brewers. The Rangers took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a single by Pat Putnam, run-scoring double by Billy Sample and RBI single by Roberts. Bell delivered a two-run single in the third and Roberts drilled a leadoff homer in the fourth. A three-run homer by Bell climaxed a five-run sixth and Sundberg smashed a two-run circuit clout in the seventh.

Tigers 4, Twins 2 at Minnesota (night game):
Jack Morris became the league's first nine-game winner as the Tigers defeated the Twins, 4-2. The Tigers broke a 2-2 tie in the fifth inning on a run-scoring single by Steve Kemp, and John Wockenfuss provided insurance with a leadoff homer in the sixth.

Orioles 3, A's 1 at Oakland (day game):
Yielding only three hits, Mike Flanagan and Tim Stoddard combined to pitch the Orioles to a 3-1 victory over the A's. Singles by Al Bumbry, Rich Dauer and Eddie Murray accounted for Baltimore's first run in the opening frame, and two walks and a single by Mark Belanger produced a fourth-inning marker. The Birds registered their final run in the eighth on singles by Murray and John Lowenstein and a sacrifice fly by Dan Graham.

Red Sox 4, Mariners 2 at Seattle (night game):
Frank Tanana and Bill Campbell combined on an eight-hitter, leading the Red Sox to a 4-2 victory over the Mariners. Jerry Remy, Dave Stapleton and Dwight Evans singled in the first inning and Remy scored when Jim Rice bounced into a double play. The Sox added two runs in the seventh on doubles by Rice and Carney Lansford and a single by Rich Gedman. Gedman singled home a run in the ninth after Carl Yastrzemski singled and took second on a wild pitch.

Royals 7, Blue Jays 4 at Toronto (night game):
Amos Otis went 4-for-4 and knocked in four runs, pacing the Royals to a 7-4 victory over the Blue Jays, Toronto's 10th straight loss. K.C. snapped a 4-4 deadlock in the eighth inning. U.L. Washington began the rally with a one-out walk to chase starter Mark Bomback. George Brett greeted reliever Jerry Garvin with a single and, one out later, Otis drilled a two-run double off reliever Joey McLaughlin. Brett hit his first homer of the season, a solo shot in the sixth inning.

Cubs 7, Giants 4 at Chicago (day game):
Mike Lum went 3-for-3, including his first homer of the year, as the Cubs defeated the Giants, 7-4. Lum opened the second inning with his round-tripper and the Cubs erupted for three runs in the third inning on an RBI double by Bill Buckner, run-scoring single by Jerry Morales and a sacrifice fly by Ken Reitz. Morales added an RBI single in the fifth, and a single by Ivan DeJesus and a two-bagger by Buckner drove in Chicago's final two markers in the sixth.

Expos 11, Braves 2 at Montreal (night game):
Bill Gullickson pitched his first complete game of the season as the Expos breezed to an 11-2 rout of the Braves. The Expos took a 2-0 lead in the opening inning when Tim Raines walked, stole second, reached third on a sacrifice and tallied on a fielder's choice grounder by Andre Dawson. Dawson stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and came in on a sacrifice fly by Gary Carter. Larry Parrish blasted a three-run homer in the fifth, following singles by Warren Cromartie and Willie Montanez. Raines' two stolen bases increased his total to 48 for the season.

Reds 2, Mets 0 at New York (night game):
Mario Soto, spacing six hits, hurled the Reds past the Mets, 2-0. The Reds scored in the fourth inning on a leadoff homer by George Foster and picked up an insurance marker in the eighth inning when Dave Collins walked, stole second, advanced to third on a throwing error by first baseman Dave Kingman and scored on a single by Dave Concecpcion.

Phillies 5, Astros 4 at Philadelphia (night game):
A five-run rally in the eighth inning lifted the Phillies to a 5-4 triumph over the Astros. Pete Rose tied Stan Musial's N.L. record for hits (3,630) with a single in the first inning and then struck out in his next three times at bat. Rose's blow was the only hit the Phillies got off Nolan Ryan until George Vukovich singled with two out in the eighth. At that point Ryan was forced to leave the game because of stiffness in his lower back, and the Phillies belted reliever Frank LaCorte. Gary Matthews doubled home one run and, after Mike Schmidt walked, Dick Davis singled home another. Garry Maddox followed with a three-run homer.

Padres 3, Pirates 2 at Pittsburgh (night game):
A three-run homer by Ruppert Jones and the combined six-hit pitching of Juan Eichelberger and Gary Lucas carried the Padres to a 3-2 triumph over the Pirates. Jones' blast came after two-out singles by Terry Kennedy and Randy Bass in the sixth inning. Lucas notched his 10th save.

Dodgers 4, Cardinals 1 at St. Louis (night game):
Jerry Reuss, after allowing a one-out solo homer by Garry Templeton in the first inning, retired 22 straight batters before settling for a three-hitter as the Dodgers defeated the Cardinals, 4-1. The Dodgers took a 2-1 lead in the fifth on a two-run single by Ken Landreaux and added singletons in the sixth and eighth frames, respectively, on an RBI double by Mike Scioscia and a run-scoring single by Reuss.
