Today's scores and summaries:

Angels 6, Orioles 3 at California (night game):
Extending his batting streak to 21 games, Bobby Grich hit a homer and two singles to lead the Angels to a 6-3 triumph over the Orioles. The Angels broke a 1-1 tie with a four-run fourth inning. Grich opened the frame with a single and scored on a two-out triple by Bobby Clark. A single by Butch Hobson plated Clark and successive singles by Rod Carew, Rick Burleson and Fred Lynn produced two more markers. Grich's round-tripper led off the fifth.

Tigers 4, Twins 0 at Detroit (night game):
Dan Schatzeder and Dave Tobik combined to pitch the Tigers to their sixth straight victory, a 4-0 blanking of the Twins. Lynn Jones drew a one-out walk in the fourth inning and scored on a double by John Wockenfuss. Stan Papi then followed with a two-run homer.

Blue Jays 9, Royals 4 at Kansas City (night game):
Knocking in six runs with three singles and a groundout, Lloyd Moseby led the Blue Jays to a 9-4 victory over the Royals. Every Toronto starter had at least one hit as the Jays pounded out 17 hits. Moseby, Al Woods and Alfredo Griffin collected three hits apiece and K.C. was guilty of four errors. Moseby drove in single runs in the third and fourth innings and stroked two-run singles in both the sixth and seventh frames.

White Sox 6, Yankees 5 at New York (night game):
Brilliant relief pitching by Ed Farmer enabled the White Sox to post a 6-5 triumph over the Yankees. Farmer entered the game with runners on first and second and nobody out in the eighth inning and slammed the door. The Sox had broken a 5-5 tie in the sixth on a triple by Ron LeFlore and sacrifice fly by Mike Squires. Two Yankee errors gave the Sox four unearned runs in the third inning.

A's 4, Red Sox 2 at Oakland (night game):
Notching their fifth straight victory, the A's downed the Red Sox, 4-2, as Matt Keough turned in his eighth complete game in 13 starts. The A's scored a pair of unearned runs in the first inning on a two-base throwing error by losing pitcher Frank Tanana. After the Sox tied the contest on a sacrifice fly by Julio Valdez in the top of the fifth, the A's went ahead to stay in the bottom of the frame on a run-scoring double by Dave McKay. Cliff Johnson drilled a solo homer in the sixth.

Mariners 4, Indians 3 at Seattle (night game):
A wild throw by Cleveland shortstop Jerry Dybzinski in the 10th inning enabled the Mariners to shade the Indians, 4-3. The score was 3-3 when Joe Simpson doubled with one out in the bottom of the 10th. Bud Bulling then grounded to Dybzinski, who threw to third in an attempt to get Simpson, but the ball went past third baseman Toby Harrah and Simpson scored the winning run.

Rangers 4, Brewers 1 at Texas (night game):
With Doc Medich allowing only five hits in 8 2/3 innings, the Rangers defeated the Brewers, 4-1. Texas scored in the first inning on a single by Mickey Rivers, a stolen base and a single by Buddy Bell. Billy Sample cracked a leadoff homer in the fifth and Bell drilled a run-scoring double in the sixth. Jim Kern recorded his third save of the season.

Braves 5, Mets 2 at Atlanta (night game):
A three-run pinch-homer by Brian Asselstine in the seventh inning lifted the Braves to a 5-2 triumph over the Mets. The Braves trailed, 2-0, when Dale Murphy and Glenn Hubbard stroked one-out singles in the seventh. After Bruce Benedict bounced into a forceout, Asselstine belted a 3-1 pitch for his second round-tripper of the year. Atlanta added another run later in the frame on an RBI single by Claudell Washington, and Benedict singled home the Braves' final run in the eighth.

Cubs 4, Dodgers 3 at Chicago (day game):
A bizarre play in which the tying run was nullified with two out in the ninth inning because of runner's interference enabled the Cubs to post a 4-3 victory over the Dodgers. Los Angeles trailed, 4-2, going into the ninth, and reduced the margin to 4-3 on a leadoff homer by Ken Landreaux, his second round-tripper of the game. After the Dodgers loaded the bases with one out, pinch-hitter Reggie Smith grounded sharply to second baseman Mike Tyson, who threw to shortstop Ivan DeJesus to force Pedro Guerrero, who was running from first. Guerrero, however, ran out of the basepath waving his arms and although the return throw to first was wild, the tying run was disallowed and Smith was declared out as second base umpire Jim Quick called interference on Guerrero. Bobby Bonds was the hitting star for the Cubs, drilling an RBI triple in the fourth inning before scoring on an infield out by Ken Reitz, and cracking a run-scoring double in the fifth. Bill Buckner stroked an RBI single in the seventh.

Reds 6, Phillies 3 at Cincinnati (night game):
Erupting for three runs in the eighth inning, the Reds went on to a 6-3 victory over the Phillies. The score was 3-3 when Dave Concepcion opened the eighth with a single and scored on a double by Goerge Foster. Dan Driessen then walked and, after Foster was forced at third on an attempted sacrifice by Ray Knight, Joe Nolan followed with a double to score two more runs.

Astros 9, Expos 1 at Houston (night game):
Scoring four runs in the third inning, the Astros coasted to a 9-1 rout of the Expos. Alan Ashby began the Houston third with a double and came home on a triple by Joe Pittman. A one-out single by Tony Scott registered Pittman. After a single by Craig Reynolds put runners on first and second, Terry Puhl cleared the sacks with a double. Winning pitcher Nolan Ryan left the game for a pinch-hitter in the sixth inning after surrendering just two hits, striking out eight and lowering his league-leading ERA to 1.29.

Pirates 7, Giants 3 at Pittsburgh (night game):
Ripping four San Francisco pitchers for 12 hits, the Pirates breezed to a 7-3 victory over the Giants. The Bucs scored in the second inning on a solo homer by Lee Lacy and added three runs in the third on a two-run triple by Bill Madlock and sacrifice fly by Jason Thompson. Tony Pena smacked a leadoff homer in the fourth.

Cardinals 7, Padres 6 at St. Louis (night game):
A pinch-single by Gene Tenace drove in the winning run in the ninth inning as the Cardinals edged the Padres, 7-6. After the Padres had bounced back from a 6-1 deficit to eventually tie the game in the eighth inning on a pinch-homer by Joe Lefebvre, the Cards got one-out singles in the ninth by pinch-hitter Mike Ramsey, Garry Templeton and Tommy Herr. Templeton, however, rounded second too far on Herr's hit and was caught off on the throw from center fielder Ruppert Jones. Then Tenace, batting for Steve Braun, hit a 3-2 pitch for a single.
