Today's scores and summaries:

Angels 12, Indians 2 at California (night game):
Dan Ford crashed a homer, double and two singles to drive in five runs and Rod Carew collected five hits to lead the Angels to a 12-2 shelling of the Indians. Ken Forsch, going the route, became the first A.L. pitcher to win 10 games this season. Ford's round-tripper was a two-run shot in the eighth inning. The Angels got three runs in the second stanza when Carew stroked an RBI single and Rick Burleson delivered a two-run single.

Tigers 7, Rangers 4 at Detroit (night game):
Homers by Richie Hebner, Steve Kemp and Lou Whitaker powered the Tigers to a 7-4 victory over the Rangers. Hebner drilled a two-run shot in the opening inning. Kemp hit a solo swat in the third frame and Whitaker belted a two-run clout in the seventh as Detroit extended its winning streak to seven games.

Twins 7, Brewers 6 at Milwaukee (night game):
A three-run homer by Ron Jackson helped the Twins end their six-game losing streak with a 7-6 triumph over the Brewers. Jackson's blow snapped a 1-1 tie in the third inning and came with two out after Dave Engle doubled and Mickey Hatcher reached base on an error. The Twins boosted the margin to 7-1 in the sixth stanza on an RBI single by Danny Goodwin and a two-run single by Gary Ward.

Royals 4, Yankees 0 at New York (night game):
Larry Gura tossed a four-hitter as the Royals blanked the Yankees, 4-0. Run-scoring singles by Frank White and John Wathan produced a pair of K.C. runs in the fourth, and the Royals added two more in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Amos Otis and an RBI single by White.

Orioles 4, A's 2 at Oakland (night game):
Going 8 1/3 innings, Jim Palmer snapped a personal three-game losing skein as the Orioles prevailed over the A's, 4-2. The Birds tallied twice in the first frame on a wild pitch and an RBI single by John Lowenstein. Lowenstein also doubled home Baltimore's final run in a two-run third inning.

Red Sox 7, Mariners 4 at Seattle (night game):
Two-run homers by Joe Rudi and Jim Rice in the ninth inning powered the Red Sox to a 7-4 victory over the Mariners. The Sox were behind, 4-3, going into the ninth when Garry Hancock began the winning rally with a one-out single. Rudi then followed with a round-tripper. Later in the inning, Rice blasted his circuit clout with Dwight Evans aboard via a forceout.

Blue Jays 5, White Sox 4 at Toronto (day game):
A homer by Lloyd Moseby in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the Blue Jays a 5-4 triumph over the White Sox. Moseby's blast came after the first two batters had been retired. The Jays had tied the game in the bottom of the eighth on three straight walks, all issued by Ed Farmer after two were out with a runner on third.

Expos 4, Braves 1 at Atlanta (night game):
A three-run homer by Gary Carter in the top of the 11th inning carried the Expos to a 4-1 decision over the Braves. The score was 1-1 when Mike Phillips opened the 11th with a single and was forced at second by Tim Raines, who was attempting to sacrifice. Raines then stole second and Rodney Scott grounded out. Andre Dawson was given an intentional walk but Carter ruined the strategy by clouting a 3-1 pitch into the seats in left-center field.

Giants 4, Cubs 3 at Chicago (day game):
Pushing across a run in the top of the eighth inning, the Giants edged the Cubs, 4-3. The score was 3-3 when Jeff Leonard stroked a one-out single and reached third on a double by Milt May. After pinch-hitter Joe Morgan was walked intentionally to load the bases, pinch-swinger Jim Wohlford bounced into a forceout as Leonard crossed the plate. Greg Minton pitched the final two innings to earn his 13th save.

Reds 2, Mets 0 at Cincinnati (night game):
Yielding only four hits, Mario Soto hurled his second shutout against the Mets this season, leading the Reds to a 2-0 triumph. The Reds scored both runs in the fourth inning. Ken Griffey singled and took second when shortstop Frank Taveras booted George Foster's grounder. After Dan Driessen walked to load the bases and Griffey was forced at home by Ray Knight, Joe Nolan lined a single to center, scoring Foster and Driessen.

Phillies 5, Astros 4 at Philadelphia (night game):
The Phillies ended their four-game losing streak, coming from behind to shade the Astros, 5-4. The Phils trailed, 4-3, going into the bottom of the seventh inning, when Keith Moreland and Garry Maddox drew successive one-out walks. Both runners advanced on a groundout and scored on a single by Larry Bowa. The Astros had broken a 3-3 tie in the top of the frame on an RBI double by Craig Reynolds.

Bill Madlock doubled home the Bucs' final run in the seventh. Rick Rhoden, going 8 1/3 innings, boosted his record to 7-1. Three different players drove in one run each to lead the Bucs to victory in the nightcap. A run-scoring single by Madlock produced a first-inning tally, a groundout by Bill Robinson drove home a third-inning run and an RBI double by Jason Thompson accounted for the final Pittsburgh run in the seventh.
