Today's scores and summaries:

Indians 6, Angels 3 at California (day game):
John Denny and Mike Stanton combined on a five-hitter to lead the Indians to a 6-3 victory over the Angels. The Tribe tallied three runs in the third inning on a bases-loaded walk to Mike Hargrove, sacrifice fly by Ron Hassey and RBI single by Toby Harrah. Andre Thornton smacked a two-run homer in the sixth and Hassey added another sacrifice fly in the seventh. The game was delayed 11 minutes in the third inning by a brawl after Denny hit Dan Ford with a pitch.

Tigers 5, Rangers 4 at Detroit (day game):
Rallying for two runs in the bottom of the ninth, the Tigers registered their ninth straight victory by shading the Rangers, 5-4. Detroit trailed, 4-3, when Lynn Jones began the bottom of the ninth with a game-tying homer off Jon Matlack. Jim Kern relieved and Steve Kemp followed with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice by Tom Brookens. After Lou Whitaker was walked on purpose, Steve Comer replaced Kern. Ricky Peters singled off the glove of first baseman Bill Stein and Kemp raced home with the winning run.

Brewers 8, Twins 5 at Milwaukee (day game):
Homers by Paul Molitor, Ted Simmons and Robin Yount helped power the Brewers to an 8-5 decsion over the Twins. Molitor connected with the bases empty in the first inning, Simmons drilled a three-run shot to highlight a four-run fifth frame and Yount delivered a solo swat in the eighth. The Brewers went ahead to stay in the third inning when Cecil Cooper singled, took second on a walk and scored on a single by Gorman Thomas. Rollie Fingers notched his 17th save.

Yankees 8, Royals 0 at New York (day game):
Homers by Larry Milbourne and Graig Nettles in the first inning triggered the Yankees' 8-0 rout of the Royals. Milbourne's round-tripper came when K.C. left fielder Willie Wilson was struck in the head by a fly ball he lost in the sun. The ball bounded away and Milbourne circled the bases. Later in the frame, Nettles drilled a three-run shot following an infield hit by Dave Winfield and a walk to Oscar Gamble. A two-run homer by Gamble keyed a four-run second inning.

Orioles 7, A's 4 at Oakland (day game):
A trio of two-run homers carried the Orioles to a 7-4 triumph over the A's. Gary Roenicke drilled a two-run shot in the second inning, Ken Singleton added a two-run blast in the third and Eddie Murray snapped a 4-4 tie with a two-run round tripper in the sixth. The Birds' final run came in the eighth on a single by Jose Morales.

Red Sox 7, Mariners 5 at Seattle (night game):
A two-run single by Tony Perez in the eighth inning was the key hit as the Red Sox rallied to down the Mariners, 7-5. The Sox were behind, 5-4, when Carney Lansford walked and Dave Stapleton doubled. After an intentional pass to pinch-hitter Joe Rudi, Perez singled to right. Jerry Remy's sacrifice fly produced the third run of the inning.

White Sox 13, Blue Jays 2 at Toronto (day game):
Blasting 21 hits, the White Sox enjoyed a 13-2 pasting of the Blue Jays. The Sox jumped to a 3-0 lead in the second inning on a hit batsman with the bases loaded, RBI single by Bill Almon and sacrifice fly by Ron LeFlore. Greg Luzinski clouted a three-run homer in the fourth frame. Steve Trout gave up four hits in eight innings to claim the victory while LaMarr Hoyt finished up.

Braves 2, Expos 1 at Atlanta (day game):
Taking advantage of Montreal errors, the Braves posted a 2-1 triumph over the Expos. Bruce Benedict led off the Braves' sixth inning with an infield hit and reached second on a throwing error by Expos third baseman Larry Parrish. Rafael Ramirez followed with an RBI single and when center fielder Andre Dawson misplayed the ball, Ramirez wound up on third. One out later, Brett Butler delivered a run-scoring grounder.

Cubs 6, Giants 5 at Chicago (day game):
The winning run scored on a bases-loaded walk by Gary Lavelle as the Cubs edged the Giants, 6-5. The score was 5-5 when Ivan DeJesus opened the bottom of the ninth inning with a short fly that right fielder Jack Clark misplayed for a single. Pinch-hiiter Mike Tyson sacrificed DeJesus to second. After Steve Henderson was intentionally walked and Pat Tabler flied out to move DeJesus to third, Bill Buckner walked to load the bases. Leon Durham worked the count to 3-2, then took an outside pitch to force home the decisive tally.

Mets 3, Reds 2 at Cincinnati (day game):
Bob Bailor was the hitting and fielding hero as the Mets edged the Reds, 3-2 in 10 innings. The game was tied, 2-2, when Rusty Staub singled with one out in the top of the 10th. Alex Trevino ran for Staub and reached third on a single by John Stearns. Bailor then stroked a sacrifice fly to score Trevino. In the bottom of the frame, Bailor made a leaping, game-ending catch of George Foster's drive despite colliding with the left field wall.

Phillies 6, Astros 0 at Philadelphia (night game):
Mike Schmidt's grand slam was the big blow and Steve Carlton and Tug McGraw pitched the Phillies to a 6-0 shutout of the Astros. Schmidt's blast came in the third inning and followed singles by Carlton and Pete Rose wrapped around a hit batsman. The Phillies had taken a 1-0 lead in the second when Schmidt doubled and scored on Garry Maddox's double.

Pirates 5, Padres 2 at Pittsburgh (day game):
Driving in three runs, Phil Garner sparked the Pirates to a 5-2 victory over the Padres. Garner drove in the first run in the Bucs' two-run second inning by hitting into a force play, singled home another tally in a two-run third and delivered a sacrifice fly in the fifth. Gary Alexander drilled an RBI double in the second and Bill Robinson smacked a run-scoring double in the third. Rod Scurry, going 8 2/3 innings, was the winning pitcher and Enrique Romo got the last out for his ninth save.

Cardinals 11, Dodgers 7 at St. Louis (day game):
Keith Hernandez went 4-for-5 to lead a 20-hit attack as the Cardinals thumped the Dodgers, 11-7. Hernandez smashed a two-run homer in the first inning, doubled and scored in the third, singled and scored in the fifth and singled in the sixth. Dane Iorg drove in two runs for the Cards with a triple and single. Bruce Sutter pitched the final two innings to register his 15th save.
