Angels 8, Red Sox 6 at California (night game):
Exploding for six runs in the sixth inning, the Angels went on to an 8-6 victory over the Red Sox. The Angels were behind, 4-1, going into the sixth, but tied the game on an RBI single by Don Baylor and two-run double by Brian Downing. A run-scoring single by Juan Beniquez put California ahead, 5-4, and Bobby Clark climaxed the rally with a two-run homer. The Angels got solo homers from Beniquez in the second stanza and Bobby Grich in the seventh.

Royals 4, Tigers 2 at Detroit (night game):
Amos Otis, with a homer and two-run double, was the hitting hero as the Royals ended Detroit's nine-game winning streak by stopping the Tigers, 4-2. Otis clouted a solo round-tripper in the second inning and lashed a two-run double to snap a 2-2 tie in the eighth. Willie Aikens hit a bases-empty homer in the fourth.

Brewers 5, White Sox 4 at Milwaukee (night game):
Driving in three runs with a homer and double, Cecil Cooper sparked the Brewers to a 5-4 victory over the White Sox. Cooper stroked an RBI double in the opening inning and swatted a two-run round-tripper in the fifth. Ben Oglivie knocked in the other two Milwaukee runs with a run-scoring groundout in the first and an RBI single in the third.

Twins 3, Yankees 2 at New York (night game):
Kent Hrbek, playing in his first major league game, homered to lead off the 12th inning, lifting the Twins to a 3-2 triumph over the Yankees. The Twins had deadlocked the contest in the eighth on a run-scoring single by Dave Engle. Jack O'Connor pitched the last two innings to earn the victory.

A's 16, Indians 4 at Oakland (night game):
Unloading a 20-hit onslaught, the A's buried the Indians, 16-4. Rickey Henderson, Jeff Newman and Cliff Johnson hit home runs. Shooty Babitt and Tony Armas each drilled a triple. Henderson went 4-for-4 and Newman, Mike Heath and Babitt each had three hits. The Tribe took a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the third inning before the A's wiped it out with a five-run outburst that featured two RBIs each by Johnson and Heath.

Orioles 12, Mariners 8 at Seattle (night game):
Scoring nine runs before Seattle got on the board, the Orioles outslugged the Mariners, 12-8. Ken Singleton cracked a two-run homer in the first inning and Rich Dauer smashed a pair of round-trippers, a two-run clout in the third and three-run blast in the fourth. Eddie Murray, who was 4-for-5 with three RBIs, hit his 14th homer in the eighth for Baltimore's final run.

Rangers 3, Blue Jays 0 at Toronto (day game):
Scattering six hits, Doc Medich pitched the Rangers to a 3-0 whitewashing of the Blue Jays. Texas took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning when Al Oliver singled, took second on an error by left fielder Al Woods, and came in on a single by Buddy Bell. Oliver stroked an RBI single in the sixth and Bell drilled an RBI double in the eighth.

Cubs 9, Padres 8 at Chicago (day game):
A pinch-double by Mike Tyson in the bottom of the 11th inning lifted the Cubs to a 9-8 triumph over the Padres. The score was 8-8 going into the Chicago 11th when Ivan DeJesus led off with a walk and came around on Tyson's blow. The Cubs had deadlocked the game in the bottom of the ninth on a two-out, two-run single by Bill Buckner.

Reds 2, Mets 0 at Cincinnati (night game):
Bruce Berenyi gave up just two hits and recorded 12 strikeouts in pitching the Reds to a 2-0 blanking of the Mets. Cincinnati scored in the second inning on a two-out double by Ray Knight and RBI single by Joe Nolan. Berenyi opened the fifth frame with a two-bagger and came in on a single by Dave Collins.

Phillies 7, Braves 5 at Philadelphia (night game):
A two-run homer by Manny Trillo in the bottom of the 13th inning gave the Phillies a 7-5 decision over the Braves. The score was 5-5 when Keith Moreland stroked a one-out single in the 13th. After Garry Maddox flied out, Trillo connected for the circuit. Tug McGraw pitched four perfect innings to earn the victory. The Phils had tied the game in the bottom of the ninth on a throwing error by Atlanta shortstop Rafael Ramirez.

Dodgers 3, Pirates 0 at Pittsburgh (night game):
Burt Hooton pitched his second straight four-hit shutout in the Dodgers' 3-0 victory over the Pirates. Los Angeles took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI single by Bill Russell and added single runs in the third and sixth frames on solo homers by Dusty Baker and Steve Yeager.

Cardinals 2, Giants 1 at St. Louis (night game):
Pushing across a run in the bottom of the 10th inning, the Cardinals shaded the Giants, 2-1. The score was 1-1 when Tito Landrum reached first on an infield hit, stole second, continued to third on a throwing error by catcher Bob Brenly and tallied on Tommy Herr's single up the middle through a drawn-in infield.
