Angels 7, Orioles 1 at Baltimore (day game):
Knocking out Jim Palmer in the second inning, the Angels routed the Orioles, 7-1. Palmer issued a walk to Rod Carew and hit Fred Lynn with a pitch in the first inning before giving up a three-run homer to Don Baylor. Butch Hobson belted a round-tripper in the second inning after a one-out walk to Juan Beniquez.

A's 5, Red Sox 3 at Boston (day game):
Homers by Cliff Johnson, Mickey Klutts and Jeff Newman powered the A's to a 5-3 victory over the Red Sox. Johnson hit a two-run blast in the third inning and Klutts and Newman had back-to-back shots leading off the fourth. Two outs later, Rickey Henderson tripled and Dwayne Murphy singled to complete Oakland's scoring.

Yankees 5, White Sox 1 at Chicago (day game):
Rudy May snapped a personal seven-game losing streak with a five-hitter in pitching the Yankees to a 5-1 victory over the White Sox. The Yanks took a 3-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single by Reggie Jackson, run-scoring triple by Graig Nettles and RBI bunt single by Dave Winfield. The other two N.Y. runs came in the third on an error by Sox pitcher Dennis Lamp.

Indians 17, Mariners 11 at Cleveland (day game):

Brewers 6, Rangers 2 at Milwaukee (day game):
Pete Vuckovich, getting relief help from Rollie Fingers, who notched his 19th save, recorded his 10th victory as the Brewers prevailed over the Rangers, 6-2. The Brewers scored three runs in the fourth inning on a single by Ben Oglivie, walk to Gorman Thomas, RBI double by Ted Simmons and two-run single by Robin Yount. Thomas stroked a run-scoring single in the fifth and consecutive singles by Jim Gantner, Paul Molitor and Cecil Cooper accounted for Milwaukee's final run in the sixth.

Tigers 6, Twins 1 at Minnesota (day game):
Three-hit pitching by Jack Morris led the Tigers to a 6-1 victory over the Twins. A single by Alan Trammell gave Detroit a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning and the Tigers scored twice in the sixth on a bases-loaded single by Lou Whitaker. Detroit added two markers in the ninth on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly by Ron Jackson. Morris recorded his 11th complete game of the season.

Astros 5, Phillies 4 at Houston (night game):
The Astros completed a four-game sweep of the Phillies by posting a 5-4 triumph in 10 innings. Craig Reynolds began the Astros' 10th with a single, advanced to second on a sacrifice by Denny Walling and scored on a single by Jose Cruz. The Phils had tied the game in the ninth on a walk to Lonnie Smith and a double by Pete Rose.

Cubs 2, Dodgers 1 at Los Angeles (day game):
Jody Davis collected three singles and drove in two runs to lead the Cubs to a 2-1 triumph over the Dodgers. The Cubs took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning when Bill Buckner walked, moved to second on a single by Leon Durham and scored on a single by Davis. Doug Bird pitched seven innings to pick up the victory and Dick Tidrow recorded the save.

Braves 5, Expos 4 at Montreal (day game):
An error permitted the decisive run to score as the Braves shaded the Expos, 5-4 in 12 innings, ending Montreal's five-game winning skein. Eddie Miller began the 12th with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice by Claudell Washington. Miller stole third and, after Jerry Royster popped out, tallied when second baseman Rodney Scott made an errant throw to first after fielding a grounder by Chris Chambliss.

Reds 6, Mets 3 at New York (day game):
A single, triple and homer by Ken Griffey sparked a 15-hit attack that carried the Reds to a 6-3 victory over the Mets. The Reds scored in the first inning on a bases-loaded walk to Joe Nolan and again in the second on an RBI single by Griffey. Ron Oester delivered a sacrifice fly in the fifth and Dave Collins and Griffey smashed back-to-back round-trippers in the sixth.

Padres 9, Cardinals 6 at San Diego (day game):
The Padres snapped their seven-game losing streak with a 9-6 triumph over the Cardinals. The game was tied, 6-6, going into the bottom of the seventh inning, when Juan Bonilla led off with an infield single. Luis Salazar then bunted and pitcher Mark Littell made a wild throw to second trying to get Bonilla. A double by Ruppert Jones drove in Bonilla and Salazar scored on a wild pitch. Jose Moreno accounted for the third run of the inning with a single.

Giants 5, Pirates 0 at San Francisco (day game):
Completing the four-game series sweep, the Giants shut out the Pirates, 5-0, on the six-hit hurling of Tom Griffin. The Giants scored their first two runs in the fourth inning on a single by Dave Bergman, three walks and a single by Jerry Martin. Jack Clark had three hits including a pair of doubles and drove in a run to pace the Giants' offense.
