Today's scores and summaries:

Mariners 4, Orioles 3 at Baltimore (night game):
A homer by Lenny Randle in the top of the ninth inning enabled the Mariners to snap their 10-game losing streak with a 4-3 triumph over the Orioles. Randle's blow came with two out and broke a 3-3 deadlock. The Orioles loaded the bases with two out in the bottom of the inning but Rich Dauer flied out to end the game.

Red Sox 4, Angels 1 at Boston (night game):
Dennis Eckersley pitched his sixth complete game of the season as the Red Sox prevailed over the Angels, 4-1. The Sox broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth inning on an RBI double by Jerry Remy. Carney Lansford stroked a run-scoring single in the sixth and Remy doubled home Boston's final marker in the seventh.

Tigers 3, White Sox 1 at Chicago (night game):
Steve Kemp had three hits including a two-run triple to back the five-hit pitching of Milt Wilcox and give the Tigers a 3-1 victory over the White Sox despite a triple play by Chicago. The Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the third inning on a single by Tom Brookens, walk to Alan Trammell and Kemp's three-bagger. They added another run in the fourth on a run-scoring single by Al Cowens. The triple play came in the second inning. With runners on first and second, Cowens hit a hit-and-run fly to right fielder Harold Baines, who threw to second baseman Tony Bernazard to double Kirk Gibson off second. Bernazard then threw to first baseman Mike Squires to nail Lance Parrish at first and complete the triple play.

A's 5, Indians 3 at Cleveland (night game):
A three-run homer by Dwayne Murphy keyed a four-run outburst in the fifth inning that carried the A's to a 5-3 victory over the Indians, ending the Tribe's winning skein at five games. Dave McKay opened the fifth with a single but was forced at second by Fred Stanley, who reached third on a single by Rickey Henderson. Murphy then delivered his homer. A walk to Wayne Gross and RBI double by Tony Armas capped the rally.

Brewers 5, Royals 1 at Kansas City (night game):
Spoiling Dick Howser's debut as Kansas City manager, the Brewers posted a 5-1 victory over the Royals. The Brewers tallied three runs in the first inning on doubles by Paul Molitor and Cecil Cooper and a two-run homer by Ben Oglivie. The Brewers picked up a run in the eighth on a run-scoring single by Cooper and closed out the scoring in the ninth on a sacrifice fly by Don Money.

Yankees 7, Twins 0 at Minnesota (night game):
Dave Righetti and Rich Gossage combined on a three-hitter as the Yankees whitewashed the Twins, 7-0. Willie Randolph opened the game with a double and two outs later scored on a double by Reggie Jackson. Oscar Gamble hit a solo homer in the third inning and the Yanks iced the contest with a four-run eruption in the sixth, the key blow being a two-run single by Barry Foote with the bases loaded.

Blue Jays 3, Rangers 0 at Texas (night game):
Dave Stieb, going the distance for the eighth time, hurled the Blue Jays to a 3-0 blanking of the Rangers. All Toronto runs came in the eighth inning. George Bell led off with a double and reached third as Al Woods beat out a bunt. Garth Iorg then lined a single to plate Bell. A passed ball, sacrifice fly by Danny Ainge and squeeze bunt by Ernie Whitt brought home two more runs.

Phillies 11, Braves 8 at Atlanta (night game):
Homers by Mike Schmidt, Keith Moreland and Luis Aguayo helped power the Phillies to an 11-8 victory over the Braves. Atlanta led, 4-2, going into the fifth inning on the strength of a grand slam homer by Glenn Hubbard in the first frame. But the Phillies went ahead in the fifth on a three-run homer by Schmidt and a solo blast by Moreland. The Phils increased their margin to 9-4 in the sixth on a homer by Aguayo, sacrifice fly by Bake McBride and RBI single by Moreland.

Reds 9, Expos 8 at Cincinnati (night game):
A single by Ray Knight in the bottom of the ninth inning delivered the winning run as the Reds edged the Expos, 9-8. Ron Oester stroked a one-out single and reached second on a single by pinch-hitter Mike Vail. Knight then blooped a single to right and Oester scored. The Expos had tied the game in the top of the ninth on a solo homer by Andre Dawson, his second circuit shot of the game.

Astros 6, Mets 1 at Houston (night game):
Scattering nine hits in a route-going performance, Don Sutton pitched the Astros to a 6-1 decision over the Mets. Houston scored three runs in the first inning on an RBI double by Jose Cruz and errors by New York first baseman Dave Kingman on two consecutive plays. An error by second baseman Doug Flynn gave the Astros another run in the fifth frame.

Pirates 5, Dodgers 4 at Los Angeles (night game):
The Pirates ended a seven-game losing streak with a 10-inning 5-4 triumph over the Dodgers. The score was 4-4 when Willie Montanez began the 10th with a pinch-single. Omar Moreno, attempting to sacrifice, reached first base safely on an error by third baseman Derrel Thomas. Lee Lacy then beat out a bunt to load the bases and Bill Madlock followed with a sacrifice fly. The Dodgers loaded the bases with two out in the bottom of the frame but Steve Sax hit into a forceout to end the game.
