Today's scores and summaries:

Red Sox 5, Tigers 2 at Boston (night game):
A two-run single by Jerry Remy snapped a 2-2 tie in the sixth inning, sending the Red Sox on their way to a 5-2 decision over the Tigers. The Sox had loaded the bases on singles by Tony Perez and Rich Gedman and a walk to pinch-hitter Dave Stapleton before Remy stroked the key hit. The Sox added another tally in the seventh on an RBI by Perez. Boston reliever Bob Stanley hurled 3 1/3 frames of scoreless ball to earn the victory.

Royals 4, Angels 3 at California (night game):
A two-run homer by Frank White climaxed a three-run eighth inning that boosted the Royals to a 4-3 triumph over the Angels. K.C. trailed, 3-1, with two out and nobody on in the top of the eighth when U.L. Washington doubled and scored on a single by Willie Wilson. Andy Hassler replaced Bruce Kison on the mound for the Angels and White rapped his third serve over the center field fence.

Yankees 10, Brewers 2 at Milwaukee (night game):
Scoring in each of the first five innings, the Yankees routed the Brewers, 10-2. N.Y. tallied twice in the opening frame on an RBI single by Lou Piniella and RBI groundout by Reggie Jackson. Bob Watson cracked a leadoff homer in the second and Piniella drilled a solo shot in the third. Jackson hit a two-run round-tripper in the seventh. Tommy John, going the distance, raised his record to 9-5.

White Sox 5, Mariners 2 at Seattle (night game):
Yielding only five singles, Dennis Lamp pitched the White Sox to a 5-2 victory over the Mariners. Jim Morrison opened the scoring with a leadoff homer in the third inning, and the Sox made it 2-0 in the fifth on an RBI double by Lamar Johnson. The Sox scored three runs in the eighth when, with two men on, Chet Lemon's single to center was booted by Joe Simpson for a three-base error.

A's 5, Rangers 2 at Texas (night game):
Scattering seven hits, Rick Langford pitched the A's to a 5-2 victory over the Rangers. The A's scored in their first turn at bat on a double by Cliff Johnson and RBI single by Tony Armas, and added there tallies in the second on a run-scoring single by Dave McKay and two-run single by Johnson.

Twins 6, Blue Jays 3 at Toronto (night game):
A three-run rally in the eighth inning carried the Twins to their seventh straight victory, 6-3 over the Blue Jays. The winning surge began with a two-out double by John Castino. Jerry Garvin replaced Jim Clancy on the hill for the Jays and issued an intentional walk to pinch-hitter Roy Smalley. Garvin then gave way to Roy Lee Jackson, who uncorked a wild pitch and intentionally walked pinch-hitter Gary Ward to load the bases. Pinch-hitter Glenn Adams then walked to force in one run and Ron Washington followed with a two-run single.

Reds 4, Astros 2 at Houston (night game):
Striking out 12 batters, Bruce Berenyi throttled Houston on four hits as the Reds topped the Astros, 4-2. Johnny Bench drove in two runs in the first inning with a single and also stroked a run-scoring single in the eighth. The Reds tallied a run in the fourth on an error by Denny Walling.

Dodgers 10, Padres 5 at San Diego (night game):
A six-run explosion in the seventh inning gave the Dodgers a 10-5 victory over the Padres. Singles by pinch-hitter Mike Scioscia and Mike Marshall broke a 4-4 tie and Davey Lopes highlighted the frame with a three-run homer. Pedro Guerrero closed out the scoring with a run-scoring double. Ted Power, pitching in relief, received credit for his first major league win.

Giants 4, Braves 2 at San Francisco (night game):
Atlanta errors enabled the Giants to defeat the Braves, 4-2. The Giants loaded the bases in the first inning on an error by shortstop Rafael Ramirez, a walk and an error by third baseman Bob Horner. Milt May drew a two-out walk to force in one run and Jerry Martin followed with a two-run single. Martin also tripled in the fourth and scored on Johnnie LeMaster's squeeze bunt. The Braves played the game under protest after a double play in the third inning in which two Braves were on third base at the same time. Enos Cabell tagged the second runner, Claudell Washington, out and then when the first runner, Brett Butler, stepped off the bag, Cabell tagged him out too.
