Today's scores and summaries:

Tigers 6, Orioles 3 at Baltimore (night game):
A pair of homers by John Wockenfuss helped the Tigers devour the Orioles, 6-3, for their fourth straight victory. Wockenfuss slammed a two-run shot in the fourth inning to tie the game at 3-3, and then gave Detroit a 4-3 lead in the sixth with a solo blast. The Tigers added insurance with a two-run double by Lance Parrish in the eighth.

Brewers 10, Red Sox 8 at Boston (night game):
A two-run rally in the top of the ninth inning enabled the Brewers to outlast the Red Sox, 10-8, in a see-saw game. With the score 8-8, Jim Gantner began the ninth with a walk and was sacrificed to second by Charlie Moore. Robin Yount doubled to score Gantner and Ted Simmons followed with another two-bagger the scored Yount. The Brewers had taken an 8-7 lead in the top of the seventh on an RBI single by Cecil Cooper and two-run homer by Simmons, but the Sox tied the game in the bottom of that frame on a run-scoring single by Jim Rice.

Angels 1, White Sox 0 at California (night game):
Angel Moreno and Don Aase combined on a four-hitter in hurling the Angels to a 1-0 blanking of the White Sox. The run came in the second inning when Bobby Grich singled, stole second and raced home on a single by Bert Campaneris.

Royals 2, Twins 1 at Kansas City (night game):
Larry Gura hurled a four-hitter as the Royals shaded the Twins, 2-1. K.C. scored both its runs in the fifth inning. Hal McRae doubled, took third on a single by John Wathan and scored on a single by Clint Hurdle. Wathan took third as U.L. Washington bounced into a double play and came home on a single by Willie Wilson.

Indians 6, Yankees 4 at New York (night game):
A five-run explosion in the third inning carried the Indians to a 6-4 triumph over the Yankees as Len Barker notched his eighth victory. The Tribe sent 10 batters to the plate in the third. Dave Rosello and Mike Fischlin singled, and Miguel Dilone walked to load the bases before Alan Bannister delivered a two-run single. Mike Hargrove walked and Bo Diaz doubled home two runs. Toby Harrah capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly.

Mariners 3, Rangers 2 at Texas (night game):
Scorring all their runs in the seventh inning, the Mariners shaded the Rangers, 3-2. With one out in the top of the seventh, Richie Zisk singled and went to second on a groundout. After a walk to Jeff Burroughs, Joe Simpson blooped an RBI single to center to tie the game at 1-1. Paul Serna then singled to plate Burroughs, and Bud Bulling followed with a run-scoring single.

[DH] A's 3, Blue Jays 2 (night game) / A's 4, Blue Jays 2 at Toronto (night game):
The A's swept a twin bill from the Blue Jays, winning the opener, 3-2 in 13 innings, and capturing the nightcap, 4-2. The opener was tied, 2-2, when Rickey Henderson drew a two-out walk in the top of the 13th and stole second. After Dwayne Murphy was walked intentionally, Keith Drumright's single scored Henderson. The A's took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning of the second game on a homer by Jim Spencer. Wayne Gross delivered a sacrifice fly in the sixth and a two-run double in the eighth.

Cubs 4, Cardinals 3 at Chicago (day game):
Pushing across a run in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Cubs edged the Cardinals, 4-3. The score was 3-3 when Jody Davis drew a walk to open the Cubs' ninth. Ty Waller then bunted and both runners were safe when pitcher Mark Littell threw late to second on a forceout attempt. Pat Tabler bunted safely to load the bases and pinch-hitter Jerry Morales followed with a sacrifice fly to end the game. The Cubs came back from a three-run deficit on a two-run homer by Waller -- the first of his major league career -- in the fifth off starter Bob Forsch and a game-tying solo shot by Leon Durham off reliever Bob Sykes in the eighth.

Astros 3, Braves 0 at Houston (night game):
Don Sutton pitched a three-hitter as the Astros blanked the Braves, 3-0. The Astros scored in the first inning on a walk to Phil Garner, double by Tony Scott and sacrifice fly by Jose Cruz. Scott singled home the first run of a two-tun third and later came in on a single by Danny Heep.

Expos 6, Phillies 2 at Montreal (night game):
Five-hit pitching by Steve Rogers carried the Expos to a 6-2 triumph over the Phillies. The Expos broke a 2-2 tie in the seventh inning when Chris Speier walked and was replaced by pinch-runner Tim Raines, who stole second and scored on a double by Warren Cromartie. Montreal added three runs in the eighth on consecutive doubles by Gary Carter, Larry Parrish and Tim Wallach, an intentional walk to Terry Francona and a double by Mike Phillips.

Pirates 5, Mets 3 at New York (night game):
A three-run homer by Jason Thompson capped a four-run third inning, enabling the Pirates to defeat the Mets, 5-3. The Bucs were behind, 2-1, when Omar Moreno began the third with a double, went to third on a bunt single by Lee Lacy and scored on a double by Johnny Ray. Thompson then connected for the circuit.

Reds 3, Padres 2 at San Diego (night game):
Aided by San Diego errors, the Reds shaded the Padres, 3-2. The Reds scored twice in the fifth inning when Ken Griffey and Dave Concepcion drew two-out walks, George Foster hit an RBI single and Padres third baseman Tim Flannery let the throw from the outfield get past him for an error, scoring Concepcion. The Reds' final run came in the seventh when Padres catcher Terry Kennedy dropped a throw from the outfield.

Giants 5, Dodgers 2 at San Francisco (night game):
Driving in three runs with an inside-the-park homer and single, Larry Herndon led the Giants to a 5-2 triumph over the Dodgers and Fernando Valenzuela. Jack Clark singled in the third and, with two out, Herndon lined a shot to right that Rick Monday attempted to shoestring. However the ball got by Monday and rolled to the fence as Herndon circled the bases. Johnnie LeMaster singled in the fourth, went to second on a sacrifice by Ed Whitson and came in on a single by Joe Morgan. Herndon singled home Darrell Evans, who had tripled, in the fifth.
