Indians 5, Red Sox 2 at Boston (night game):
A three-run uprising in the seventh inning carried the Indians to a 5-2 triumph over the Red Sox. Mike Hargrove, Ron Hassey and Toby Harrah lashed three hits apiece for the Indians.
White Sox 4, Angels 1 at California (night game):
The White Sox snapped their four-game losing streak by beating the Angels, 4-1, behind the four-hit pitching of Dennis Lamp. Harold Baines contributed his eighth homer of the season, a double and a single, driving in two runs.
Royals 9, Twins 2 at Kansas City (night game):
The Royals used a pair of four-run innings to send the Twins to a 9-2 defeat. Amos Otis had two hits, including a two-run homer in the sixth, and scored two runs.
Orioles 5, Yankees 1 at New York (night game):
With Jim Palmer pitching a four-hitter for his 248th career victory and Rich Dauer hitting a two-run homer in the fifth inning, the Orioles spanked the Yankees, 5-1. Ron Guidry started for the Yankees but was forced out after being hit by a line drive by Baltimore's Ken Singleton.
Mariners 2, Rangers 1 at Texas (night game):
A run-scoring single by Tom Paciorek in the 11th inning enabled the Mariners to edge the Rangers, 2-1. Dan Meyer singled with one out and stole second to set the stage for Paciorek's game-winning hit.
Cubs 10, Mets 9 at Chicago (day game):
Bobby Bonds belted his sixth home run of the season with two out in the eighth inning to propel the Cubs to a 10-9 triumph over the Mets. Eight of the Cubs' 10 runs came on homers as Leon Durham, Ty Waller and Jody Davis also connected. Ellis Valentine hit two homers and drove in five runs for the Mets.
Astros 5, Braves 3 at Houston (night game):
Art Howe drove in two runs, with a single in the first inning and a triple in the third, to lead the Astros to a 5-3 decision over the Braves. Jose Cruz and Dickie Thon each had three hits for the Astros, and Bob Knepper hit his second career home run.
Expos 7, Pirates 1 at Montreal (night game):
Warren Cromartie collected four hits, including a double and home run, and Gary Carter drove in three runs with a single and double as the Expos bowled over the Pirates, 7-1, for their fifth straight victory. Winning pitcher Bill Lee hit his first homer of the season and second of his career in the fifth inning.
Dodgers 7, Giants 3 at San Francisco (night game):
A three-run homer by Mike Scioscia highlighted a five-run third inning the produced the Dodgers' 7-3 victory over the Giants and ended a five-game losing streak. L.A.'s Reggie Smith was ejected from the game and escorted off the field by police after going into the stands and attacking a fan.
Phillies 14, Cardinals 6 at St. Louis (night game):
The aroused Phillies pounded out eight straight hits, seven of them singles, and sent 16 batters to the plate in an 11-run third inning that decided an eventual 14-6 rout of the Cardinals. Gary Matthews drove in four runs with a pair of singles in the third-inning explosion that represented the National League season high for runs scored in one inning. Gene Tenace drove in four of the Cardinals' runs with homers in the second and eighth innings. Two fans were arrested following an altercation with Philadelphia players as the Phillies came off the field after the eighth inning.
