Today's scores and summaries:

Indians 7, Red Sox 5 at Boston (day game):
A four-run first inning sent the Indians on their way to a 7-5 victory over the Red Sox. The Tribe's first-frame markers came on an RBI single by Toby Harrah, run-scoring groundout by Ron Hassey and two-run single by Rick Manning. The Indians added singletons on run-scoring singles by Hassey in the third, Harrah in the fifth and Mike Hargrove in the seventh. Dan Spillner pitched the final 2 1/3 innings to notch his seventh save.

Angels 6, Blue Jays 3 at California (day game):
Driving in three runs with a three-bagger and an infield single, Daryl Sconiers helped the Angels to a 6-3 victory over the Blue Jays. His two-run triple came in the seventh inning and the single came in the fifth. Bobby Grich belted a two-run homer in the third, following Rod Carew's 2,500th career hit. John Harris blasted a solo round-tripper in the second.

Brewers 4, Tigers 3 at Detroit (day game):
A two-run homer by Ben Oglivie capped a three-run outburst in the eighth inning that enabled the Brewers to shade the Tigers, 4-3, and take over first place in the A.L. East Division. With runners on first and third and one out in the eighth, Ted Simmons bounced a potential double-play grounder back to the mound. But the ball bounced off pitcher Milt Wilcox's hand and Robin Yount scored as Alan Trammell threw out Simmons. Oglivie then followed with his round-tripper. Richie Hebner hit two homers for the Tigers, a solo shot in the fourth and two-run blast in the ninth.

Mariners 4, Royals 2 at Kansas City (night game):
The Mariners extended their winning streak to five games by downing the Royals, 4-2. Seattle snapped a 2-2 tie in the top of the ninth inning. Dan Meyer stroked a one-out single and reached third when right fielder Darryl Motley kicked the ball into center field. Paul Serna was hit by a pitch and Bub Bulling followed with an infield single, scoring Meyer and sending Serna to third. Bulling was thrown out trying to take second on the play, but Julio Cruz then hit a grounder that third baseman Rance Mulliniks booted, allowing Serna to score.

Twins 7, Rangers 3 at Minnesota (day game):
Rally for four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Twins posted a 7-3 decision over the Rangers. The game was deadlocked, 3-3, when Hosken Powell began the Twins' eighth with a single. He moved to second on a sacrifice and, after a groundout, Glenn Adams was walked intentionally. But John Castino spoiled the strategy by lacing a two-run triple. A double by Butch Wynegar plated Castino and Gary Ward singled home Wynegar for the final run.

Yankees 6, Orioles 4 at New York (night game):
A three-run pinch-homer by Bobby Murcer in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted the Yankees to a 6-4 victory over the Orioles. Trailing, 4-3, the Yanks began their winning surge when Rick Cerone walked and was sacrificed to second by Bobby Brown. Baltimore third baseman Doug DeCinces then booted a grounder by Willie Randolph to set the stage for Murcer, who drilled a ball into the right-center field bleachers. The Orioles had used solo homers by Gary Roenicke in the seventh and Jose Morales in the eighth to assume the 4-3 margin.

A's 5, White Sox 1 at Oakland (day game):
Steve McCatty became the league's second 14-game winner and recorded his 15th complete game as the A's won over the White Sox, 5-1. The A's scored twice in the second inning. Mickey Klutts singled, Kelvin Moore tripled him home for his first major league extra-base hit and RBI, and Jeff Newman delivered a sacrifice fly. Klutts hit solo homers in the sixth and eighth frames.

Reds 2, Braves 0 at Atlanta (day game):
Combining on a five-hitter, Bruce Berenyi and Tom Hume pitched the Reds to a 2-0 blanking of the Braves. The Reds tallied in the fifth inning when Ron Oester drew a leadoff walk, took second on a sacrifice by Berenyi and Paul Householder then walloped a home run.

Astros 5, Dodgers 0 at Houston (day game):
Nolan Ryan became the first pitcher in baseball history to toss five career no-hitters as the Astros beat the Dodgers, 5-0. The righthander struck out 10 or more batters for the 136th time in his career and retired the final 19 batters following a two-out walk in the third inning. Houston right fielder Terry Puhl saved the no-hitter when he ranged far to his right and backhanded a long fly off the bat of Mike Scioscia in the seventh inning. The Astros scored twice in the third frame when Tony Scott reached first on an error by Dodgers shortstop Derrel Thomas, Jose Cruz doubled and Alan Ashby singled both runners home. Houston added three markers in the eighth on RBI singles by Craig Reynolds, Kiko Garcia and Cruz.

Expos 4, Mets 2 at Montreal (night game):
The Expos raced to their seventh straight victory, winning 4-2 over the Mets. Montreal broke a 1-1 tie in the second inning when Terry Francona singled, advanced to second on a sacrifice by Chris Speier and scored on a single by Warren Cromartie. The Expos picked up their final two runs in the sixth stanza on a throwing error by Mets right fielder Ellis Valentine and an RBI single by Speier.

Giants 6, Padres 5 at San Diego (night game):
Jeff Leonard drove in five runs and Jerry Martin plated the winning marker as the Giants edged the Padres, 6-5. Leonard drilled a two-run homer in the first inning and a three-run triple in the fifth. With the score tied, 5-5 in the eighth, Larry Herndon stroked a two-out single, went to second on a balk and scored the go-ahead marker on a single by Martin.

Cardinals 5, Pirates 3 at St. Louis (day game):
A three-run rally in the seventh inning lifted the Cardinals to a 5-3 decision over the Pirates. The Redbirds trailed, 3-2, when pinch-hitter Steve Braun began the bottom of the seventh with a walk. Braun reached second on a sacrifice by Bob Forsch, went to third on a groundout and came home on a single by Garry Templeton. Keith Hernandez then hit a long fly to center that went off Omar Moreno's glove for a triple as the go-ahead run scored, and George Hendrick followed with a single. Bruce Sutter hurled the final two frames to notch his 24th save.
