Today's scores and summaries:

Dodgers 2, Astros 1 at Los Angeles (day game):
Scattering four hits, Fernando Valenzuela pitched the Dodgers to a 2-1 triumph over the Astros, enabling Los Angeles to tie the N.L. West Division Series at two games apiece. The Dodgers scored on a solo homer by Pedro Guerrero in the fifth and picked up an insurance tally in the seventh on a single by Steve Garvey, sacrifice bunt by Rick Monday, two-out intentional walk to Mike Scioscia and run-scoring single by Bill Russell.

Phillies 6, Expos 5 at Philadelphia (day game):
A pinch-homer by George Vukovich in the bottom of the 10th inning enabled the Phillies to edge the Expos, 6-5, and even their best-of-five East Division Series at two games apiece. The game-winning blow -- Vukovich's third pinch-hit of the series -- came on a 2-0 pitch. The Phillies' other runs came on a two-run homer by Mike Schmidt in the first inning, two-run single by Keith Moreland in the third and a sixth-inning solo homer by Gary Matthews. Moreland's hit was made possible when Montreal second baseman Jerry Manuel missed second base on what looked like an inning-ending double play. That miscue enabled Moreland to come to the plate. Gary Carter knocked in two runs for the Expos with a bases-empty round-tripper in the fourth and a run-scoring double in the seventh that tied the game at 5-5.

Brewers 2, Yankees 1 at New York (day game):
The Brewers leveled the A.L. East Division Series at two games apiece by shading the Yankees, 2-1. Milwaukee scored both its runs in the third inning when Paul Molitor singled, went to third on a single by Robin Yount and scored on a sacrifice fly by Cecil Cooper. A two-out double by Ben Oglivie then plated Yount. The Yanks got their run in the seventh when Jerry Mumphrey reached first on an error by first baseman Cooper, took third on a double by Dave Winfield and came in on an RBI groundout by Lou Piniella.
