Today's scores and summaries:

Dodgers 4, Astros 0 at Los Angeles (day game):
Jerry Reuss scattered five hits in twirling the Dodgers to a 4-0 blanking of the Astros, giving Los Angeles the N.L. West Division title and capping a comeback that saw the Dodgers win three straight after losing the first two games of the series. The Dodgers broke the scoreless tie in the sixth inning. Dusty Baker drew a one-out walk, moved to third on a single by Steve Garvey and scored on a single by Rick Monday. One out later, a single by Mike Scioscia plated Garvey. The third run of the inning came in when Houston first baseman Denny Walling was unable to handle a throw from third baseman Art Howe.

Expos 3, Phillies 0 at Philadelphia (day game):
Starring both at the plate and on the mound, Steve Rogers led the Expos to a 3-0 whitewashing of the Phillies as Montreal captured the N.L. East Division Series by taking the decisive fifth game. The Expos scored twice in the fifth inning. Larry Parrish opened with a single and Tim Wallach walked. Chris Speier forced Wallach. Jerry Manuel then drew a walk to load the bases and Rogers followed with a two-run single. Parrish added an RBI double in the sixth to complete the scoring. Rogers was in complete control throughout. The Phils' biggest threat came in the sixth stanza when they placed runners on first and third with one out, but Rogers induced Mike Schmidt to bounce into a double play.

Yankees 7, Brewers 3 at New York (night game):
Reggie Jackson, Oscar Gamble and Rick Cerone hit home runs, powering the Yankees to a 7-3 triumph over the Brewers in the deciding game of the American League East Division Series. The Brewers, who had squared the series after losing two games in Milwaukee, took the lead when Gorman Thomas homered off Ron Guidry in the second. They made it 2-0 in the third on a single by Ed Romero, walk to Paul Molitor, single by Robin Yount and Cecil Cooper's sacrifice fly. Jackson tied the score in the fourth with his second homer of the playoff, following a single by Larry Milbourne. The blast against the facade of the upper deck in right field was Jackson's 16th in postseason play. Mike Caldwell relieved Moose Haas and yielded singles to Graig Nettles and Bob Watson before he was replaced by Dwight Bernard. Cerone's forceout of Watson produced the fourth run of the inning. Dave Righetti relieved Guidry in the fifth and became the winner despite allowing a run in the seventh on Yount's triple and a single by Cooper. Cerone rapped his round-tripper in the seventh, and the Yankees wrapped up the scoring with two runs in the eighth on singles by Milbourne and Jackson, run-scoring double by Lou Piniella and Graig Nettles' sacrifice fly.
