Today's scores and summaries:

White Sox 5, Red Sox 4 at Boston (day game):
A three-run homer by Tom Paciorek climaxed a four-run rally in the seventh inning that enabled the unbeaten White Sox to edge the Red Sox, 5-4. Chicago trailed, 4-1, when Ron LeFlore stroked a one-out single and went to third on a double by Tony Bernazard. Greg Luzinski got an infield hit that scored LeFlore. Paciorek then hit the next pitch for his round-tripper. Salome Barojas earned his third save by coming on in the seventh and hurling hitless ball the rest of the way.

Angels 2, Mariners 1 at California (night game):
Following their victory in the completion of yesterday's suspended 20-inning marathon, the Angels then captured the regularly-scheduled contest, 2-1 in 10 innings. Bobby Grich went from goat to hero in this game. His throwing error in the ninth inning enabled the Mariners to tie the contest at 1-1, but his double in the 10th drove home the winning run. Rod Carew, who had led off the 10th with a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice, scored the decisive tally.

Indians 6, Brewers 2 at Cleveland (day game):
Andre Thornton drove in three runs to pace the Indians to a 6-2 victory over the Brewers. The Tribe took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Jerry Dybzinski and upped the margin to 3-0 in the fourth on a two-run single by Thornton. Thornton also delivered a run-scoring single in the seventh. Mike Hargrove had an RBI single in the sixth and sacrifice fly in the seventh.

Royals 4, Orioles 3 at Kansas City (night game):
Pushing across a run in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Royals edged the Orioles, 4-3. The score was 3-3 when U.L. Washington stroked a one-out single and advanced to second on a groundout. After George Brett was walked intentionally, Amos Otis singled off the left field wall to score Washington. The game had been tied since the fifth, when the Orioles scored twice on an RBI groundout by Joe Nolan and run-scoring double by Ken Singleton.

A's 7, Twins 5 at Minnesota (night game):
Two homers by Tony Armas powered the A's to a 7-5 victory over the Twins in 12 innings. Armas' first round-tripper led off the eighth inning and tied the score at 5-5. Then in the 12th with Cliff Johnson aboard via a two-out single, Armas drilled the ball over the fence in right-center.
