A two-out, two-run homer by Doug DeCinces in the bottom of the 10th inning gave the Angels a 4-2 victory over the Twins. DeCinces' swat came on an 0-2 pitch and followed Brian Downing's third single of the game. Angels' second baseman Bobby Grich was ejected in the sixth ininng when he charged after Minnesota starter Darrell Jackson. Both dugouts and bullpens emptied but the umpires quickly restored order.

New York scored twice in the first inning on an RBI single by Dave Revering and run-scoring double by Lou Piniella. The Yanks tallied five unearned runs in the second as first baseman Enos Cabell dropped an infield pop-up and pitcher Pat Underwood mishandled a tapper back to the mound. The Yanks got three more runs in the eighth on singles by Willie Randolph, Jerry Mumphrey and Ken Griffey and a two-run single by Graig Nettles.

Rangers 4, Brewers 1 at Milwaukee (day game):
Staging a three-run uprising in the 10th inning, the Rangers downed the Brewers, 4-1, in Milwaukee's home opener. The score was 1-1 when Mike Richardt and Mark Wagner opened the 10th with singles. Bill Stein, the pinch-hitter for Doug Flynn, doubled in Richardt. One out later, Lee Mazzilli singled home Wagner and after Buddy Bell was walked intentionally, Leon Roberts stroked a sacrifice fly.

Mariners 5, A's 0 at Seattle (night game):
The Mariners ended their three-game losing streak by whitewashing the A's, 5-0, as Floyd Bannister scattered seven hits in going the route. Julio Cruz opened the Seattle fourth with a walk, moved to second on a single by Manny Castillo and scored on a single by Bruce Bochte. Two outs later, Al Cowens smacked a 1-0 pitch about 20 rows deep into the left field bleachers.

Braves 5, Astros 3 at Houston (night game):
Erupting for five runs in the sixth inning, the rampaging Braves posted their ninth straight triumph, 5-3 over the Astros. The Braves trailed, 3-0, when Bruce Benedict led off the sixth with a double and Rafael Ramirez walked. Both runners advanced on an infield out and scored on a single by Brett Butler. Butler then stole second, reached third on an infield out and came home on a wild pitch for the tying run. Dale Murphy walked and tallied on a double by Bob Horner. Dave Smith then replaced Nolan Ryan, now 0-3, on the hill for the Astros and threw wildly to first on Chris Chambliss' slow roller, permitting Horner to score.

Expos 4, Mets 3 at New York (night game):
A leadoff homer by Al Oliver in the ninth inning lifted the Expos to a 4-3 decision over the Mets. The winning blast came on an 0-2 pitch by New York reliever Jesse Orosco. The Mets had tied the score at 3-3 in the sixth on a two-run single by George Foster. Jeff Reardon allowed just one hit over the final three innings to earn the victory.

Pirates 7, Cubs 6 at Pittsburgh (day game):
A single by Omar Moreno drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 12th inning as the Pirates won their home opener by shading the Cubs, 7-6. The game was tied, 6-6, when Tony Pena opened the Bucs' 12th by being hit with a pitch. Johnny Ray laid down a sacrifice bunt and both runners were safe when Bump Wills failed to touch the bag on the throw to first. A sacrifice by Jim Smith advanced both runners and, after Steve Nicosia was walked intentionally to load the bases, Moreno delivered the decisive blow. Pittsburgh had deadlocked the contest in the eighth when Lee Lacy tallied on a passed ball.

Padres 8, Dodgers 3 at San Diego (night game):
Making his first start of the season, John Curtis pitched seven innings and was credited with the victory as the Padres prevailed over the Dodgers, 8-3.
